  • Why is there no love for the RX480 series on here?

    • probably drivers for some, I like to play with linux and in the past it was somewhat painful, I'm not keen to go there again, same goes with OSX86. If it were just Windows I'd have gone it when that ~$169 deal was done.

Thanks to AMD ATI horrible software and drivers, I have vowed never to use them again, and this is on Windows….

        • +2

Same here, I have drivers that simply fail to install and am stuck without the Crimson software configuration utility.

Very happy with my 1060 now, even though I paid 423 for it (MSI gaming X version)

        • @scrimshaw:

Dunno if you've tried this but you can use DDU to uninstall all of your gfx drivers and software and try a reinstall. I had issues with some of my AMD drivers for my 390 and I was able to fix it that way.

          @Juddy:

I have tried. I reached out to the AMD community forum and everyone thinks it's the antivirus, the firewall, some leftover legacy Catalyst drivers or maybe the planets are not aligning right, but I spent about 4 months tinkering before giving up and selling the R9 380 off.

  • Love to hear how the previous batch of buyers went. Do these run silent when just browsing etc?

    • +1

Fan remains off under low loads based on product description.

    • +1

I have the full sized 1080 version with the same cooler by gigabyte and the fans do not turn on till it hits 60% max heat, with max heat being about 90 degrees. Hope this is in any way helpful.

The RX470 is faster then this card http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/deus_ex_mankind_divided…

and over time with more DX12/Vulkan games coming out the RX470 performance advantage will grow

Apart from that .. great price! and great for ITX builds

    • +2

They are paid to hand-pick the game that did ok with RX cards. In reality, they are much slower than GTX with the games that people actually play. There is also claims that games look better with RX card… Don't let them trick you.

      • -2

you do know that every NEW game to come out from now will be DX12 and Vulkan yes?.. that means that in every new game the RX470 WILL BE FASTER let alone RX480

in DX11 the 1060 is the better card VS RX470/480 no question about it :)

OLD DX12 games are ported from DX11 and NOT real DX12 titles.. even dusex isnt fully DX12.. in 1 year from now the RX470 480 will be close to 30-40% faster in REAL from the ground up DX12 games

LOL Nvidia blackmailed reviewers with stricked reviewer guidelines that must be met otherwise they will blacklist the reviewer from receiving new cards for review "next time a new product comes out.

In the review guideline it stated mostly Nvidia game works DX11 titles and very very few DX12 games.. and absolutely NO VULKAN games lol

AMD doesn't have money to pay anyone for good reviews! YouTube is your friend for the REAL truth on hardware ..
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uoanTrMenI

        as for Vulkan support

Vulkan will become mainstream because it will be used by 1.5-2 billions Android users on smartphones, tablets, Linux, next gen games (Unity, UE4) and Mac OSX, PS4 to replace OpenGL/ES. It will be used by at least 95% of the world population.

RX 480 over 50% faster than GTX 1060 when running Doom in Vulkan API
        http://www.pcgamesn.com/amd/rx-480-vs-gtx-1060-vulkan

    • In most reviews that I have read (which is quite a few) the GTX 1060 outperforms the RX 480 (and definitely the RX 470) in most games. I have seen the RX 480 outperforming the GTX 1060 in DX12 games, but usually not by much. Maybe Deus Ex:MD particulary likes the AMD cards? Or are all newer reviews showing that AMD's cards are doing better?

The more DX12 a game is the better it preforms on AMD.

DueseX uses allot of DX12 paths.. not 100% there yet as developers are still learning DX12

when we get to 100% DX12 games we will see AMD RX480 around 50-70% faster then GTX1060

This is FACT!.. every new DX12 game to come out now and in the future has Nvidia trying to move to their new architecture VOLTA ASAP!! because pascal is just a shrink to 16nm of the old Maxwel arch.

        • +3

1 year from now the RX470 480 will be close to 30-40%

RX 480 over 50% faster than GTX 1060

we will see AMD RX480 around 50-70% faster then GTX1060

Wow these figures are getting bigger and bigger with every post. If only I could overclock my graphics card the way you make up your figures, I would be a very happy camper.

        • @pseidus: As all overclockers know. Larger figures = more hot air :)

  • +1

Oh wow, I got the older futu deal too. This is way better! Nice find, but too late for me.

I can report, the card is amazing. Performs well and overclocks so easily! over 2100Mhz and card was in the low 50's in temp.

  • +1

Is this card good enough to play games on 1440p resolution or shall I go for the 1070?

    • -1

1440p on medium settings yes.. you will need a 1070 for max everything on the latest titles.

nothing can do 4k though,, not even 1080

  • Came close to pulling the trigger just now but I have to leave for work and I'm 99% sure this card won't fit into my HTPC case (antec nsk2480).

Going to have to do some more research tonight. Chances are I need to find a smaller card or just get a new case. Grrr!

    • +2

This is a small card already hence the mini in the title. I can't see why it couldn't fit in your case. They don't come much smaller than this. What it is your motherboard btw?

      • +1

        Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H Motherboard.

My case is a flat laying one without much clearance above the graphics slot. Hopefully by the time I work out if I can fit it they still have stock! Worst case scenario I'll just buy a new case.

        Cheers.

        • If anyone cares I spent way too long looking into heights and found the MSI and EVGA are the lowest around 11.5CM. Not really factoring in the 6 pin power but I should just squeeze it in. If I have to take a hammer to the top of my case I'm not fussed lol.

Anyway I have the EVGA SC 6gb on the way from ple's Ebay for $389.30. This card once you update the BIOS is ideal for HTPC setups and low noise. Really looking forward to it :).

        • +1

@Ingram: Or you can cut a square off the top of the case and you will get better air flow. Helps cooling :) Evga is a great card. Enjoy :)

  • Do they provide receipt with GST?

    • Yes it can be requested
