Using Small Amounts Left in Prepaid Visa / MC Gift Cards

Over time, I have accumulated many gift cards and have used up most of it but have amount left like $3.25, $10.49, $0.63 etc.

Is there any way I can spend the remaining full amount?

I know that in US there is a company who takes like 1% and combines your balances but not sure about Oz.

Please share your thoughts.

I use them up at the supermarket. You can split payment and use up the exact balance on the gift card, then pay the remaining with whatever you would normally use.
This is something I love self-checkout for so I don't have to bother the operator.

    • Thanks I thought of doing that - will try next time I am in the supermarket

Indeed. Just make sure you know the exact amount remaining on the card ahead of time.

I'm not too sure if this is mega ozbargain-ish or crazy. But what I sometimes do is use remaining amount of giftcard to save 2 cents.
    Eg. Buying 7-11 $1 coffee. Use 8c of gift card = 92c left. Pay cash= 90c. Win!

Since gift card money is slightly cheaper than real money, wouldn't it make more sense to pay 98c from the card and then nothing more?

And do you get strange looks from the cashiers when you do this sort of thing? :)

Supermarket or just use Paypal to buy your own "online service'.
Don't forget to use free trials on it before you drain your balance.
