    EWWW TN Panel

It's a 8 bit TN panel. They've come a long way from what they used to be. But each to their own

      • Found this on a reddit page discussing 8-bit TN and IPS panels.

        http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/content/dell_s2716dg.htm…

Based on the review linked… I'd say stick with TN if you want good colour reproduction… the delta E on the 8-bit TN is horrible… 5.5. With delta E, from what I can remember is you want it below 3 if you want good colour reproduction. The viewing angle is also pretty bad (not that it really matters)

All comes down to personally preference in terms of colour though, but for that price, I wouldn't buy the Dell.

@steff: AHAHAHA ops, my bad i meant IPS

personally with the current panel lottery happening with the IPS models, I'd rather not go with the headache of 3 or 4 RMA's just to get a decent monitor. The Acer's and ASUS' current models have so many QC issues.

        • @unleashthepain: where are you seeing this "lottery"?

        • @unleashthepain: I've not had a problem with that yet… what happened with yours? dead pixels or stuck pixel?

        • +1

@steff: in heaps of forums lots of backlight bleeding, screens overlapping, clusters of dead pixels. Just a quick search and you'll find tonnes of people returning them…Just upsets me that you pay this much for a monitor, there shouldn't be that many problems.

@ProjectZero: bad bleeding in the corners, bottom corners had mass yellow glows (notice it big time in dark areas of games) and dead pixel clusters in the center

        • @unleashthepain: backlight bleeding - yes this is true in most cases, but is hardly noticeable in most daily usage. But by 'overlapping' if you mean screen tearing, its more often than not, hype built by "pro's" and not your average consumer/prosumer.

If tearing is an issue to you, get FreeSync or G-Sync and enjoy the best of both worlds

@unleashthepain: You do realise that no one at all goes onto forums and makes a post saying:

Guys, my new <model> monitor arrived, everything is fine, working perfectly. Bye.

        • @Diji1:

Well 100 pages on a forum is kind of saying something…

TN. Nah. Spend the extra $150-$200 and get an IPS. Monitors last over 5 years

My BENQ TN Panel has better viewing angles than my Dell IPS. lol

I recently upgraded to this monitor a few of weeks ago after paying $855.20 bucks for it. I can honestly say that after you calibrate it, the image quality is decent. The 1440p resolution, 144hz refresh rate, g-sync and the elegant design of the monitor are great features at this price range.

The monitor comes with a display port cable so that you can truly enjoy the gaming features it has, preferably via connecting it to an Nvidia graphics card. It also has a HDMI port if you wish to connect a gaming console to it. Furthermore it has 4 USB 3 ports so you can connect any other peripherals, personally I connect my arcade stick to it.

One thing to note however, is the shipping is a bit on the slow side. It took one week for Dell Ebay to send the Dell Order Acknowledgement to Dell Australia. Then it took another week to send the monitor over to my place via courier.

    • Think you're right about the slow shipping. Still haven't got a message saying it's been sent yet.

Am pretty keen for it, as from all the videos I've seen and photos the image looks fantastic after a quick calibration. Do you know what revision you were sent? A03?

      • Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure of the model number I was sent (not sure how to check that), but I am not experiencing any issues with the monitor and I've been using it for more than a month. How are you finding the monitor so far?

        • It's absolutely brilliant! Can't fault it so far. Picture is really good,my first time using a high refresh rate so it's a massive difference to 60Hz.

  • Thanks just bought one, Got a quote from dell for staff purchase for $774, So bought through ebay and used my Amex for the points and 4 weeks interest free. Thanks guys super excited to get it next week. !!!

  • TN…nothing to see here
