wouldve been much more keen on this if it wasnt rocking a pathetic celeron.

    • I have the n3700 in my little dell 2in1 and I think it's about the minimum you can get away with now. It's fine for everything general, and I can run lightroom etc, but everything takes a second or so longer.

    • +4

Rocking something else would doubtless involve a very different price.

  • +3

    Impressive for the price

  • +5

Pretty good. Only major let down I suppose is the relatively sluggish processor, which is not much faster than a Braswell Celeron, yet it requires a fan to cool it constantly.

The dock is also flawed as well — apparently only 100 degrees of tilt movement.

  • +1

Very tempting…. But the review isn't good.

Only Problem is that it frequently disconnect itself from the keyboard

    Was $1,303.50 3 years ago.

    • +2

Also, that Amazon page is for a version of this model with a Core i7, that's a world apart from the 1.1ghz celeron in the shopping express deal.

  • Reviews?

  • +2

has Built-in 3G/LTE too, $400 is cheaper than a tablet.

    • +1

      It is also a tablet.

      • Yeah, I know that, I meant a Sim Android or ios tablet.

        • +1

I wanted a Pixel C or Nexus 9 to play with Nougat and stumbled across this. Oh, well…

  • +2

    Sell-er-on …. :-( …. !! Not to mention the truly clunky dock setup …..

  • For $400, FHD + LTE + SSD + 3 year warranty … it's alright considering nothing much at that price point for comparision …

but if you have $200 extra to spend, probably better off with Miix 700 m3/4GB/128SSD … considering it's almost 2017, and the Z10T was released in 2013/2014 … it is pretty old skool

In 2 years time, you'd probably sell a Miix 700 for more than the Z10T …

    • +1

      I have a Miix 700 LOL

      • -1

        I almost have a Mix 700 … undecided if a gold m7/8GB/256SSD would be too bling …

        • No matter the colour (black) / model, get the LTE. It's far better than this post, except this is a tablet / lappy you can actually use on your lap.

        • @mostlygordon:

Hmm … Amazon didn't have LTE and each time I needed internet, I just turned on my WiFi hotspot, or USB tether …

Any regrets on the Miix 700?? I was almost going to go the HP Spectre X2 ….

But then the HN sales guy asked "What's wrong with your Spectre 360" … and the answer was … "nothing" :$

        • +1

The Miix is my daily driver. I have lots of lappys and am typing on a XPS 15 now. The Miix it so light and you don't need a cover, as the keyboard is one. Only lappy / tablet this size with good ports / MicroSD. The screen is great. The only downsides are no backlit keyboard, and non standard charger means no (reasonably priced) car charger / powerbank.

        • @mostlygordon:

What do you mean non-standard charger?? I thought it's a USB port … so it's the same as a printer cable?? How did you solve that problem?

Yeah I know what you mean by no BL-KB … but i didn't like the USB-C only option on Spectre X2 …

        • It is a non-standard USB with two extra pins that charge with 20V. There is a second USB, and you can also use the charge one with normal USB devices if you are not charging. A few downsides, but for price / performance / size, I thought it was better than Surface or TABPRO S that I was looking at.

        • Ahh i see … thnx for the heads up!

      • I just played with the Miix 700 as it has just arrived at the local OW - no keyboard out yet tho until they find a way to lock or tag them. $949 for the set-up we the smug just paid $600 for. Any lingering buyer's remorse just flew out of the window. The speakers aren't that crash hot, but the screen and responsiveness is everything I was hoping for :-)

        • No, it's great. Just went on holidays, and after surveying the lappy collection, took the Miix. But, if it only had a backit keyboard I would be in heaven. Worth mentioning that the keys are reflective, so you can sort of see them with the LCD lighting.

      • Does the Miix 700 run Linux?

        • No idea, I have Office on this one and it does actual work:) Wish everyone used Linux, but sadly not the case. Also I need a Windows box to program my HAM radios. When I see a cheapie like this one, I think, hmm could be a great Linux machine for my off time.

        • Just in case someone else was wondering the same:
I just got the Miix 700, installed Ubuntu and pretty much everything works fine out of the box.

  • Just hoping it's a brand new laptop and comes in a sealed box.

    • I don't see why not. I have used SE a lot, and unless they say refurbished, it has always been new.

  • +1

Just a head up, this is not the 4610Y but Intel® ULV Celeron™ 2961Y, that is a lot less of a deal. I see many people here have mistaken this for that one!

  • +2

cheap 2nd dock for it ?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toshiba-Portege-Z10T-Keyboard-Doc…

    $39 less 20% ( no charger included )

    • +1

Thanks, Max another item I didn't need lol. Will leave this at work, and just shuffle the tablet.

  • Appears to have an older generation hinge holding the tablet to the keyboard which limits how wide you can open the laptop.

    • +1

Agree. This is for people looking for an LTE tablet that they will sometimes use with a keyboard dock. From what I read, there is only one position, pretty much straight up.

  • +3

I think it's a good deal, perfect for work and casual gaming (I.e. candy crush or solitaire type of games.)

I do have a soft spot for Celeron processors. One of my first computers I assembled was Celeron back in 2001 (I think). Used to love trying to overclock them.

  • Can anyone comment on where this proc sits between an Atom Z2760 and z3735? (which are the two I am familiar with)

Edit: CPUboss says that pass mark scores are 50% better with this, however I am not sure how that is in the real world

    • +2

Haven't done much research, but I know all Atoms use eMMC. I'm hoping this will be better with real SSD. I just do Web / email / OzBargain so I don't think the CPU will be taxed much. However, the 4GB RAM will certainly help with multiple OzBargain tabs open;-)

      • +2

It most definitely will, and an extra 2gb of ram than what atoms usually ship with (and used to be capped at, but not sure if that's still the case).

Good post BTW, definitely a deal for people who either can't afford or don't want to spend the extra on the Miix

  • +2

Just realised it's only running Windows 8 pro, is that accessibility upgrade to 10 deal still going?

    • +2

I have used Windows 8 S/Ns, and accessibility to upgrade a few weeks ago. Let's hope it's still going. I will probably put Linux on this, but once you Windows 10 activate a PC, you can reload anytime in the future with no key.

      • I checked the deal about accessibility and the comments are closed. Might have been working up until the end of Aug, do you know specifically when you finished using it? I guess SE are usually pretty quick so you will find out soon if I pull the trigger

        • Sorry, I won't know until mine gets delivered. Since this doesn't come with Office, you are better of with Linux;-)

  • +1

I was excited for a second, then realised that the CPU is very average (ie. comparable to current atom series).

It is pretty sweet otherwise thanks to proper SSD, great screen, backlight keyboard etc.

  • +2

I have the i5 variant. Great little laptop, carry it with me daily for work.

Pros: Portable. Wacom stylus support. Useful dock with VGA, HDMI, an extra USB AND Ethernet. Backlit keyboard.
Cons: Uncomfortable touchpad, Fragile charger, Fans.

One thing most people won't mention is that it has tiny slide out stylus as well as a big stylus, unlike most other tablets. Handy for jotting down notes on the screen at a moment's notice.

They tried to cram both a pointing nub/stick as well as touchpad into the dock, and it results in neither being very useful. Carry a bluetooth mouse to get stuff done.

Personally, I think the design of the device looks great and the ultra thin keyboard surprisingly useful. The biggest problem I've had with it so far is the charger wearing out from cramming it into my bag everyday, so I had to replace it.

    • The sellers site says no stylus. Maybe just the i5 version got it.

  • +1

I've played on one of these and they feel weird. The screen tilts back only so far, keyboard is thin, touching the screen is wobbly. It put me right off.

I ended up getting the z20t which is slightly more sturdy and the screen is just a limited but it has Core M and matte screen and a heap of ports that I needed (VGA believe it or not).

    • +2

Nice lappy, there are some of these going at reasonable prices a the 20% off Ebay sales and at http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/toshiba-portege-z20t-l…

Not really an impulse buy like this one, and I'm not connected with SE, just noticed this on their site too.

      • I got one with 256gb HDD. Just can't live with 128.

I like it because it's silent. So tired of laptop fans constantly spinning for no reason. I've owned Dell, HP and Toshiba. My wife's HP Spectre's fan blows and blows even when idle. Some say it's a Windows thing; it's probably a hardware and OS issue combined.

So whilst the Core M is slower than i5 etc the silence from having no need for a fan is golden.

        • +1

Know what you mean, my Miix 700 and T300 Chai are the same. Some would say I visit OzBargain far too much (especially the Mrs).

This one is a nice cheapish gadget to play with without breaking your main lappys me thinks.

        • +4

@mostlygordon: i have to agree, it never ceases to amaze me with how budget oriented this site is, the amount of hardware snobbery that goes on, whether it's computers, tablets or power tools, there's always someone saying why buy that when you can buy something for an extra 200. In this case, and extra 200 is 50% more

        • +1

          @Jackson:

Well Said Jackson, spot on. Can't agree more. Although this combination tablet/hybrid laptop is not perfect, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes.

For techie people who can improve and tune gadgets such as this one, it has a lot of potential ( unless needing graphics power).

Sure, CPU is not a powerhouse, but with that 4GB ram, real SSD, 1080p IPS screen, included backlit thin keyboard with useful ports, this represents great value for $397. Great first post O.P.

P.S. I am also not affiliated with S.E.

  • +2

I have one of these - I don't recommend it.

Actual tablet part is heavy, and in the keyboard dock makes it feel flimsy and top heavy. It doesn't tilt very far either.

Worst part is the processor fan is prett much on 100% of the time and is too noisy. Ive never used it because of this issue.

    • Interesting, didn't see this in reviews. Does the low price factor into your comment? Or, is it just a dog? Too late for me anyway…

      • +2

I got it when it was full price from Telstra. For this price, its probably a good buy. I just hope the fan doesn't become an issue for those who buy one - who knows in a noisy office environment maybe its OK.

Bought, will answer my own question Bout upgrading to w10 when it arrives

    • Good luck to us both:) We should compare notes.

      • +1

Yeah, of it ain't freely upgradeable to w10 then I will probably end up flogging this one. After some thought I figured the Miix was probably a safer bet but may as well live on the edge, and pretty sure I can easily flog it for this price on ebay if it doesn't suit. Hard to make a decision on spending the extra 200 without seeing them side by side, so I may still order the other one

        • I intend to upgrade to W10 before Linux. PM me if you have trouble. Have found in the past, where there is a will there is a way. Says me with a HP Stream 7 W10 tablet just now. But the Stream 7 really is a dog LOL

        • @mostlygordon: it's interesting you say that, I have a 16gb Unisurf 8" that I was planning to upgrade, someone on here was kind enough to provide a guide but what an effort, and the 16gb just isn't really enough to use it for much. I think I am running about 4Gb spare, so forget installing anything substantial on it, and all files to sd card. Still I would prefer to run it on Windows 10. It she's the F version of the processor

    • Haha, looks like you were chewing it over ( probably reading reviews on this ) till the last minute, close of deal at midnight. Let us know how you go with it and maybe a mini review would interest me and maybe others too. Good luck :-)

      • +1

Ha ha, I was, when I went to the site I had 3 minutes before the deal expired! (thankfully paypal is quick to pay with) Was tossing between this and the Miix, will end up with both at this rate (by midnight tonight I expect :)

        • Good one. Some people here would not like it, but you always get that. I expect most commenting on the negative side paid a lot more than this, if not double+ a year or more ago, understandably.

Most people including myself, who have various tablet/laptop/ultrabook/hybrid or whatever, can point out faults and flaws with all different models. That's why I always get my gear on sale or reduced/ex-demo etc. so won't be too disappointed or can always re-sell.

Even if you get both, could keep them and make both last longer and split their use fit for purpose, or just sell one after you tested out and had fun. Enjoy :-)

  • +3

I have this with the i5 and 128GB SSD with 4gb ram.
It's started to lag a fair bit after 2 years of use.

And yes, the keyboard disconnecting is a nightmare. I actually plug it into my TV with HDMI and use a bluetooth wireless mouse/keyboard combo which work fine.

For the price, this is a very good laptop. Prepare to be extremely annoyed when the keyboard keeps turning off and I'd strongly advise getting a wireless keyboard/mouse combo if convenient.

  • Just got my unit. Created the recovery discs and then went on line to see if there was any information on compatibility. On one Toshiba page the z10t-a is listed as compatible, but the one here is the b series. Looking at another driver page there is only 1 windows 10 driver (Intel chipset) but no other dedicated ones, however they have dozens for other O/Ss. I can just install and then role back, but if anyone has done this before and is happy to comment in the meantime let me know.

    • I just Windows 10 upgraded from 8.1 and then used the Toshiba utility to upgrade 3 drivers (can't remember which). Everything works like a charm.

      • Hey that's strange, when I tried to update it got caught after reboot and was stuck at the Toshiba boot screen. You just went through the motions with the assisting technologies?

Also have you tested 4g? I saw one forum post that this stopped working after upgrading

      • In case anyone is still going through this confirming that updating the windows 8 patches on their own the system will still hang on the W10 upgrade. Will be running this again tonight. When looking through the Toshiba drivers it appears the only W10 driver is for Intel fastboot technology, so assuming that is the culprit driver

  • Just a followup for anyone interested. I have the unit now. Don't have keyboard connect issues some have talked about. Before playing, login to Windows 8 and make a rescue USB before doing anything else (RTFM)!

Linux was pretty poor - no 2 finger scroll on the trackpad (can't be fixed), no LTE (probably could be fixed). Soon discovered Linux is not the best OS for touch screen…

Don't upgrade to Windows 10 without applying all Windows 8 updates first, or Windows 10 will hang on boot. Google "Assistive Technologies Windows 10 upgrade" and you can still get it for free.

Great buy for $400, don't think I would spend the $600 being asked for it now. PM me for any other questions.

    • Ha ha, just saw this, was going to be the next thing I was going to try. Didn't want to wait for all those damn updates!

  • +1

Ok so I finally got W10 on this unit, and I thought I would post on a few things regarding the process. To make sure you can complete the upgrade all the way through, you will need to:

    1. Make sure secure boot is on from the beginning (it will fall over at the last hurdle if not with a hang, and if you turn it on then it's too late as it will boot to reverting to W8
    2. Make sure you remove Symantec/Norton Internet Security rubbish, even if this is not activated it will interfere with the reboot
    3. As mentioned (and thanks to @mostlygordon for helping me work out some of this stuff and for the deal in the first place) you should update windows 8.1 completely before performing the upgrade

Apart from that, my experience so far with the unit are that it's relatively solidly built, the keyboard has a short travel but is otherwise fine, the screen doesn't tilt back all the way but it tilts back enough for me and I dont see why it would need to tilt more, it's top heavy in the keyboard dock but it tilts back far enough without tipping over (although I would have happily had a second battery in the keyboard to make it a bit heavier, although I don't know if battery life is really a problem yet), screen is fine and FHD is plenty on 11.6" IMO, kb backlight is great and can be turned off, and I don't find getting the tablet in and out of the dock any problem as some have mentioned. Regarding the touchpad, I haven't had any issues aside from a slight difficulty to get it to register two finger scrolling. All this with Pro version of windows, 4G, 3 year warranty, make this machine a pretty safe bet for many people.

Performance wise, it's not all together fair to be testing it on a relatively clean install, but the unit is a lot snappier than my TF810c (1st Gen Dual Core Atom) while still running in FHD, although it did take a long time to do the upgrade so under load after a year who knows?) For $400 it's a great buy for those that can't afford or don't want to pay more. it's entirely possible that this machine will be too slow by the end of the 3 year warranty, but if your needs aren't huge then it should take you through, especially if you are mainly just using it on the road or as a tablet
