Finally a good deal! I've been waiting years for something that has the power suck my cats and dogs into a vacuum! ;)

    • This joke always comes up with this model. And every time someone uses it they think they were the first to come up with it.

      • +1

Spot on! First time I've ever seen a cat and dog vacuum though- couldn't resist

        • Really? This model gets deals posted for it all the time. I think it's the most popular Miele model on OzB.

        • @lostn: Miele? No Idea. Never heard or seen it ahaha selective deal viewing maybe? I typically scroll and scan titles and/or pics to see what catches my attention.

        • @shrugies:

This is clearly a vaccuum for use by cats and dogs

  • wow, great price

  • This is the cheapest I've ever seen. Although technically the free bags deal for $427 last year was better value.

  • Agreed there, great price. My cousin has had his for over 7 years now and its been flawless.

  • Is 'Cat and Dog' a model name? or a type of vacuum design? or?

    • It is a variant of the very well regarded Miele C3 vacuum cleaner that is "ideal for pet lovers" because it includes the turbo head and odour filter. See here (https://www.miele.com.au/domestic/vacuum-cleaners-1784.htm?m…)

I don't have any pets but I've heard the turbo head is excellent so I stretched for this model over the more basic C3 models. Having said that, I believe all C3 models are made in Germany and perform very well.

    • the only difference with the Cat and Dog is the addition of a mini turbo head

  • Can you use generic brand dust bags?

    • +1

You can. Whether they perform just as well as genuine is up for debate.

    • Do NOT use the "compatible" bags that Bunnings have. WMMV, but I found them to be rubbish.

      • Off-topic, but what is WMMV. I know YMMV…

        • @Rorschach: wmsv it's got to be spicy in the true Goan sense:)

        • @bargainslut:
Yep, that's why he found them to be rubbish!

  • Anyone know a good place to buy dust bags for this?

    • Appliances Online, grab a HEPA filter while you're there.

  • +3

I have this vac it's really great. Very powerful and easy to move around
Buy generic bags from eBay. They are just as good and you save heaps
    I buy these ones http://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/201231702395

    • Thanks for the link, I'll try them next time.

    • A real ozbargainer cleans out each bag and uses it again and again :p

  • +1

I have a similar model Miele, can't speak highly enough about this quality vacuum.

  • +1

Had a Miele vac for 10 years now and it's never missed a beat.
Still in near new condition both cosmetically and performance wise.
It's a rare gem in a world where many things are designed to only last long enough to pass their warranty, and/or are over designed and not well maintainable.

    • Agreed. They are one of the better built modern products. Many replaceable spare parts available if they need it too.

  • I just placed an order on my phone but it gave me a checkout error. No email from paypal or from ebay confirming order.
However the amount was deducted from my bank statement under paypal.Anybody have any experience with this?

  • I've got a bagless Electrolux and a husky. We empty the canister a couple of times a week. Is there anyone who collects a lot of pet hair with experience with one of these? I hear it compresses the hair a bit, but I hate the idea of going through bag after bag after bag regularly.

  • Very good Vac But the Dyson animal is a bit better for getting hair off carpet.

  • Is this any good for floorboards? I am abit over my crappy Kmart one for $100…?

    • +1

It is… You just need to get the hard floorboard head attachment thing.

    • -2

Kmart 100$ vaccum cleaner is pretty good and very powerful if you clean it after every second use.

      • yes but it is SOOOO gross!

  • Is this the German Made or China made version. My wife insists the German made is noticibly different and we have a china one.

    • German

Germany except S190, S700 S4, and S5 series vacuum cleaners which are produced in Dongguan, China

  • Seriously awesome vacuum.

    This price is a bargain.

  • +1

I do like the odour blocker, but our house is 100% floorboards. So I am assuming the motorised head will be irrelevant?

    • Same here. I am now looking at this one, rather than paying an extra $72 for the motorised head…

If your going to go that one go the Allergy. It's exactly the same but with HEPA filter. $319.20 Click/collect.
The allergy is the miele exclusive to Goodguys. It's pretty much the same as the cat and dog but non ergonomic handle but has HEPA filter. Cat and Dog has Ergo handle but no HEPA.

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Miele-10281800-Complete-C3-Al…

edit Allergy also doesn't have the turbo head ad the cat and dog does.. From all my research I decided against it seeing most people why had it said it was great but it almost sucked to hard and they had to open the air release so as not to suck the whole carpet….and can always pick up the turbo head later if we like. $120 ish.

        • Thanks. Does the non-motorised head still give a good clean on carpets?

        • @Stix:
We don't have it yet.. But I have done way to much looking into the different models.
I'm sure the motorized head is great. My understanding is there is the turbo head which runs on air flow through the head. and a motorised version that is on the you can see them all here.
          http://www.mieleshop.com.au/floorheads-and-brushes/cb_Catalo…
Cat and dog comes with Turbo Brush.
We were on a bit of a budget and our main want was HEPA.

        • It looks like with the current sale;
An Allergy C3 with an added Turbo Brush comes out to $414.40
A Cat & Dog C3 with an added Hepa filter comes to $436.72
And then like you said, the only difference between them is the ergonomic handle of the Cat & Dog.

        • @Azmunga: Not quite.

The Cat & Dog has a Charcoal filter included, which is not included in the Allergy package. To make it a fair comparison, you'd need to add a Charcoal filter to the Allergy package, which would inflate the price a bit more. The saving for going Allergy is minimal or nonexistent if you build the two packages item for item, even if you don't factor in the ergonomic handle.

Any time you buy accessories separately, it's never as good value as when it's in the package.

I would just buy the C&D, use the Charcoal filter to begin with, and when that's expended, buy a HEPA filter later. You aren't going to throw away your Charcoal filter just because you prefer HEPAs right? May as well use it. To save $22 you'd give up a Charcoal filter (already worth more than that) and the handle.

        • @lostn:
Oh interesting. I didn't realise there was anything special about the cat & dog filter, I just assumed it was a more basic one and the hepa one was a better choice every time.

I think I'd also go the cat & dog and get a hepa filter later on if it turned out that was something I'd like. Now I just need to have a hard think about how much I actually need a better, newer vacuum cleaner.

        • @Azmunga: yh the cat and dog charcoal filter is designed to reduce pet odor. Getting the allergy just allowed us to get our foot in the door for the cheapest price. My main point was to @Faithgrrl when I was in GG and saw the C3 complete family model. I asked why it was more than the Allergy and the assistant said there was no real reason, just that the allergy was a GG exclusive to GG so they don't have to price match against other stores. Much like Harvey Normal has a model called TURBO also so they can set there one price on it without having to match it. So I thought it was better to go the Allergy over the C3 Family model.

        • @Azmunga: There are 3 types of filters: basic, charcoal, and HEPA. The charcoal eliminates odors which is common with pets, and comes standard with the cat and dog model. Lower model vacuums come with the basic filter.

If it already includes one, may as well use it.

The other thing you need to consider if you decide to go HEPA exclusive, when you buy bag packs (4 bags in a box) they only come with basic filters. If you're going to use HEPA, you're throwing away your basic filters. You can't buy bag packs with HEPA filters included. Miele doesn't make them. So if you buy HEPA every time you buy a bag pack, you're spending an extra $55 x2 (at RRP) for every bag pack (a filter is changed once for every 2 bags). And you can't buy bags without filters (unless they're generic). So you're always going to be throwing away your included filters, and your consumable costs go up. Those filters are worth $32 (at RRP).

Unless you have allergies, it's more economic to stick to the basic filters.

  • How does this compare to the V8 animal for hardfloors?

  • Fantastic vacuum. Sucks way harder than a Dyson.
Got mine last year from TGG for about the same price.

  • I got one. Plus a hard floor attachment at 20% off, and additional bags as referred to above by sahkinah. All for $500! Good riddance Kmart vacum!

  • +1

I think motorised head is really good because it can collect more dust hair etc trapped in carpet. I know it's ongoing cost with bags but it's just so much easier and cleaner to chuck out the bags then emptying bagless vac and dust flying back into the air.

  • Accidentally purchased this

  • Dear Ozbargainers,

I would appreciate if anyone can confirm (owners/future owners) whether the C3 Cat& Dog comes with a turbo head or a motorised head? I am looking for a vac with motorised head (and HEPA if possible) which one should I go for? BTW I do not have a pet at home. Any guidance will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Guys I need some help please. I am trying to "Click and Collect" but I select the store and then click buy now and then is does not show as such. Please advise what i am doing incorrectly.

    Ignore. found the fix.

  • So the bags need to be replaced often? How does that work? I only ever used traditional vacuums with the cloth bags that last forever.

    • They are 5L bags which are quite big.

      They are cloth.

You'll replace them 2-4 times a year depending on how big your house is.

      • What if you don't? What happens?

        • The bag fills up and it stops sucking more dust in. You will know about it.

The bag indicator is a bit weird. It's meant to tell you when to replace it but it has quirks.

But when you notice it's no longer sucking things in, check your bag.

I've had mine for almost a year and still haven't changed it yet but it's close to full.

          You're Macgyver though. I'm sure you'll find a way.

  • I vacuum once a week and i change the bag maybe every 3 months
