Get it now and play later… when i get my hands on the PSVR

    • Yep - my thinking as well

  • +3

Anyone with the VR care to share their experience so far?

    • +4

Only played 30 minutes of Batman, but this is an amazing way of playing games. Totally different - will be interesting to see where VR will end up!

      • Agree, Batman is simply incredible and I say that as someone who isn't even a very big fan of the franchise. The final scene is so clever and such a great use of VR.

    • +6

Playroom VR is awesome and enough to keep you smiling. Driveclub VR has terrible visuals but once a race starts it's a lot of fun so you don't really care. I started feeling sick after 5 minutes of RIGS, seems like it would be really fun so I'm hoping I can get used to it. The Deep Ocean dive from VR Worlds is amazing and what I'm going to use to showcase it to my family. Thumper is brilliant.

Download the US Demo collection off of the US store as it contains the 'Kitchen' tech demo, which is really cool. :)

      • Kitchen tech demo - is that for your wife? lol

        • It's as scary as a significant other, that's for sure.

      • +1

Kitchen demo is on our store too guys.

        • Thanks. Wonder why they didn't include it in our demo pack?

        • +2

@fatpizza: Almost certainly the sheer horrifying violence (probably didn't want to have to plaster a big MA sticker on the PSVR box)

    • +2

I've only tried the demo disc, and also bought Batman and Tumble VR (oh, and also Alumette and Invasion from the post). All I can say is that we seem to have a new way of gaming on our hands. It's a transformative experience, and feels solid enough to be a stayer. Can't be described. Has to be experienced.

Played for a few hours yesterday, here are my random thoughts:
      - VR is the future, this shit is not a gimmick and its the real deal
      - Much more immersive than I thought, I was sceptical but once you start a game you basically teleport there and forget your in your room
      - VR sickness is real. Driveclub was amazing when it drops you in the car. It's like being in the actual car, my jaw dropped. Once the race started I basically threw up. When you start feeling sick, put it down immediately!
      - There are so many free apps and demos etc not listed here like Tumble VR, Vrideo (awesome 360 video app), Hulu etc.
      - Cinematic Mode: awesome for Netflix etc, bit blurry for long gameplay. Tried Overwatch and it was really immersive but blurry. Dashing as DVA is like a rollercoaster
      - Played until dawn to try out Move controllers. Amazing! Having hands and guns for real in the game is wow.
      - I absolutely don't regret the $550 purchase, in fact it's one my best purchases even at the price.

If you haven't got your PSVR or on the fence about getting one, I'm telling you it is real and it is worth it.

        • Played until dawn

Is that the original game or the VR version?

      • +1

Very tempted to treat my self for xmas - just worried about VR sickness. I played the tank battle one and Driveclub for about 2 minutes each the other day and got pretty sick.

Really need to just rent one for a weekend to see - wish you could still rent consoles like the good ol' days.

    • +3

absolutely love what I've played so far…

Invasion is a cool lil thing to just sit and watch and get a bit of a feel for how it works

Playroom VR is pretty awesome for a freebie… I only played one of the games so far but it was great

Super Stardust VR is amazing… I did a complete run through of the normal old game but in its VR upgrade and it was fantastic, haven't played the actual new mode properly yet but it seems cool too from the explore mode I tried

Driveclub VR feels pretty cool, being in the cars is great and looking toward the corners, etc

The Hatsune Miku thing is weird, but I couldn't help but have a massive smile on my face experiencing it

pretty sure thats all I've done so far… today is demo day and possibly a couple purchases… got friends coming over tonight so looking forward to showing it off and trying the playroom vr multiplayer stuff

Oh I played a non-vr game in it too and that was a pretty impressive thing… not sure I'd do it often but its very cool none the less

    • -1

Best thing thats ever happened to gaming. The playstation operating system on the vr is perfect

  • +7

    Are these always free TA?

  • +6

Cancelled my preorder today, get I made the first person on the wait list happy :-P

Will add to the library for the future if I change my mind. I really wanna see were VR goes first, im not interested in gimmicks and novelty, we had that with the move and the playstation eye.

    • After playing with mine yesterday, can confirm this is not a gimmick. As long as it takes off it will only get better. Don't forget if we don't support this, Sony won't either.

      • +2

We all said the same thing with Kinect & move & eye Toy & Vita and so on…..

Im not saying it's not cool because without a doubt it is but until devs really figure out what VR brings to the table that I can't already get on a normal screen it won't take off in a big way. For the record I hope it does.

Also I still love my Vita…

        • I guess so but at the same time I think this is different in some way. At the end of the day, I do love seeing my hands in the game and shooting things. Feels amazing.

  • +4

Thx, downloading…looking forward to be sick again over the weekend

  • Bigw lost my info and sold my pre order so still waiting but thanks for this

    • +1

Probably an ex-DSE staff member who now works there stashed it for themselves and conveniently "lost" your order.

    • +1

Sorry to hear, when I called they couldn't find my details either but said to come in anyway. Lucky I only had to show my receipt and that was enough.

      • +1

I was the first to preorder mine on the 16th of April i think it was but my local Bigw only received 2 but because they lost the sheet they sold mine

        • That's f'd up. I saw a photo the other day at Melbourne CBD Big W, said they had some pre-orders coming in on the 3rd. Maybe if you're in VIC give them a try to see if they still have extra stock?

    • -1

A staff member probably took it home…

  • +3

    Title should say demo's

    • Nope. Should include 'demos' as the apostrophe you used makes the word possessive (ie "There are three demos in stock" and "The demo's duration was quite short")

    • +9

A "little more"? Does that "little more" take into account the cost of the higher end PC components that can actually run Oculus/Vive? :P
The PSVR has been out a day, and for something that's been out a day it has plenty of games. And plenty of them are well worth the time.

    • +8

If you are seriously about getting into VR gaming you are better off forking out a little more for the Oculus or Vive.

The PSVR is half the price of Occulus, not a little bit. Oh and that's before you buy a PC. And the PSVR is something you might want to wear for more than 30 minutes.

    • +3

Well, you're kind of right. Alumette and Invasion are basically VR movies, not games. But still, awesome to experience what is possible in VR. Especially poking my head into the flying boat in Alumette, to see what the characters are doing. Very cool.

    • +2

To get a good enough gaming PC and an Oculus or Vive is upwards of $2000 lol. If you already have a PS4 the total setup price would only be around $700.

      wtf dude.

      • It depends on what you have already and what VR style you like (which may be hard to know without trying at least one headset). After already owning a decent PC, the price for a Vive is less or equal what I'd fork out to get a PS4 + VR and the freedom of room-scale gives me some pretty good options on what I can do.

Just throwing this in here; reports of motion sickness on some PSVR titles lines up with early reviewers' findings and is frankly something I haven't experienced on the Vive. Naturally this comes down to what I have and haven't played but the controller in VR experiences is the number one way to fubar your perception of movement.

  • +1

I really wanna test the VR before buying one seeing I get motion sickness from FPS im guessing the VR will do the same ;(

    • +1

If you live in Sydney or Brisbane the PlayStation VR Tour has a couple of dates left to book in a slot - http://trypsvr.com/en-au

      • Yer I'm not ;(

    • PAX Aus in Melb next month will have it.

    • I played for about 4 minutes all up on 2 days (a guy at work brought one in) and I felt mildly sick both times - enough to want to stop playing.

I suppose if you preorder now for the next release you'll probably make some money back if you put on ebay after playing it for a weekend and deciding it's not for you.

    • and 18 Game demo disc!

  • -6

5 free games for the 5 people who probably stumped up for this.. !

  • +2

Also - assuming it works here (I'm yet to get PSVRed) - grab the VR demo disc content from the US store, as it has heaps more than ours. https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/playstation-vr-…

    • Yeah it does, just create a new account with a US address and you're good to go.

    • +1

The expanded demo pack is available on the Aussie store too, but they replaced the Kitchen demo with something else.
Also not that it really matters but the US Demo collection is locked to your US account, you cannot play it whilst logged in as your Aussie PSNID.

      • Actually, you can play the US demo collection from your Aussie account. I did it yesterday evening.

You have to ensure that your PS4 is your "primary" console on your US account. Once you do that, you can play anything you download on from the US store on other accounts on that PS4.

  • Thanks TA. Playroom VR may sound basic because it's free but man you have to check out some of the levels. You get a great feel of what platformers of the future will be like, I'm still going through all the demos, freebies and haven't touched my paid games yet.

  • Is anyone else struggling to sign in?

  • Is the Hatsune Miku one actually free? Or is there at least some free component?

    From the description:

Please note that you must purchase the free 'VR Future Live' game and a Stage DLC to enjoy this content.

The Stage DLC is $22.95. I'll try it tonight and see if there's anything to do with just the Future Live free bit.

    • You can't do anything without buying the content. There is a separate demo though, which does give you an idea of the game.

  • PSA: There's also a free 18 game demo disc on the US store and various experiences (like playing as Godzilla) in the Japan store. I suggest try all games in the demo disc before you buy anything!

    • was about to post something like this… the demo download on the AUS PSN has more demos than is included on the disc… the disc is pretty useless… i downloaded the 38gb demo off PSN last night and look forward to trying it today

didn't know about the JPN PSN stuff but that sounds awesome so will check it out! :D

    My first impressions:
    - Probably a little surprised by the low-ish resolution/ blurriness in most things.
    - And then again, despite the resolution, when things are up close they are so amazingly detailed you actually believe they are there (anything in Batman, the horrible creature in Kitchen).
    - Slightly disappointed in having a big heavy cord attached to my head, but that's where the technology is at I guess. Also, is it just me or does the screen look fairly washed out in Cinematic mode? Great option though.
    - Camera play area is quite small (e.g. need to decide if you're going to sit or stand beforehand in batman and angle the camera accordingly. Can't do a mix of both).
    - Kinda had fun playing gunjack, but then you eventually realise the game has ONE static environment and that's it.
    - Can't wait to get home from work and get back into Batman. More like this please! And based on the comments here, I think I'll go the $25 for Super Stardust.
    - Despite the negatives listed here, very positive overall. Batman and Kitchen show we could get some really special stuff down the track.

    • +1
      • 1 for the low res, I was really surprised at how pixely and blurry it looked, it really needs to be 4k - but that tech is a few years off.
      • +1

Yep, I think that would involve rendering an 8K image and sending 4K to each eye (correct me if I'm wrong).
Hey, I would have settled for 1080p on PSVR. But to be honest, it still looks pretty sweet. Especially Batman…

      • +2

We're too spoilt by HD TVs and hires monitors. Earlier this year, I fished out my old Nintendo 64, so I can try out Majora's Mask again. Damn, was I blown away by what a pixellated mess it was! Much much worse than the PSVR. Funny thing is, when I played it way back, it wasn't an issue.

Of course, TVs in those days smoothed out the pixellation. Probably similar in effect to antialiasing. So I guess it's worse playing it on a modern TV.

Anyway, VR may not be super sharp right now, but for a first generation product of this type, it does amazingly well. You'll get used to it, and even like it, I'm sure. Then in 15 years time, go retro for sentimentality, and wonder how the hell we put up with such poor resolution.

        • I agree mate…. the psvr is not ps4 quality but for it to render vr with ps2/ps3 graphics quality I'm still pretty amazed with it…

Can't wait for the improvement of vr in the coming few years…

        • @wippy:
Agree. I just thought watching 3d shows would be better than google cardboard but it's not. Vrdio has a horrible interface

  • +1

Allumette and INVASION! on Steam are free for a limited time

    For HTC Vive.

  • I felt sick while playing luge and driveclub…

Played a bit of Playroom VR with the young fella who's almost 9, then I read not for children under 12 yikes…

I'm guessing it can do stuff to underdeveloped eyes or something?

    • I'm guessing it can do stuff to underdeveloped eyes or something?

Correct. Nintendo also issue these warnings with the 3DS consoles.

  • HEy, I did not notice all the move controllers are sold out everywhere apparently! Never thought we'd see a day where Move controllers sold out ;)

    • they are selling on ebay .. 2 for $200 USED !!!

      • Heh, horrible. I still haven't played most VR games because I'm waiting for those stupid controllers to become available.
