Phillips Diamond Vision is illegal in Australia (too blue). Whitest Phillips bulbs permissible are Whitevision 4100K, I believe (in UK they are shown as 4300K, which may not be legal here).
I believe HID conversion kits are also illegal (unless your headlights are self-levelling, etc.)

Just be careful not to buy something you aren't allowed to fit, and which may make your insurance void.

I saw some youngsters driving around last night in an old Skyline with blue headlights and they looked fully sick bro. I bet you can find them late at night at some Macca's car park.

      Hi Make it so,

Our Philips Diamond Vision and HID Conversion Kit ranges are not road legal. This is stated in the product description so that customers can make a fully informed decision on which range to buy.

Philips WhiteVision bulbs have a colour temperature of 4300K. Australia is member of the 1958 agreement and has implemented Regulation 37. Our Philips WhiteVision bulbs are R37 approved, therefore they can be used legally in Australia. Please note Philips WhiteVision bulbs are not included in this deal.

We hope this helps to clarify. Please do get back in touch if you have any further questions :)

      Kind Regards,
      Emma | PB

Well aware that the product you're selling is not legal in this country but still happy make some $$ from the fully sick boy racers, thanks.

As others have mentioned, bulb upgrades from these guys generally don't last.

        • Hi OzBragain,

We offer 12 month warranties on our products (with the exception of Philips RacingVision, which has a 6 month warranty), so that if the bulbs fail prematurely, you're covered with us.

Upgrade bulbs typically have a shorter lifetime than standard bulbs. This is because these bulbs use more power to produce a brighter and sometimes whiter light. This is true across any upgrade, not just the bulbs we sell. We only sell bulbs that are bought directly from the manufacturer and all are 100% genuine.

If you are interested in bulbs that last longer, try our eco/long-life range: http://www.powerbulbs.com/au/store/category/car-bulbs/bulb-t…

          Thanks for confirming.

Osrams I bought from here would've been lucky to last 8 months. Was offered replacement but after reading similar experiences from others decided it wasn't worth the hassle sending my bulbs back to the UK to be assessed only to have replacements blow again after minimal usage. My OEM bulbs are still going strong after 5+ years.

4300K are legal here. The newer Philips Whitevision bulbs in Australia are all 4300K.

  • Good prices, just don`t believe the "A FREE 12 month warranty on all products" claim they make. Last set of Philips bulbs I got only lasted 10 months and they are not responding to the warranty claim.

    Fully sick uleh!

  • Just beware that shipping to Australia is not tracked. My last order takes more than 4 weeks to arrive.

    • Hi pig,

Our free delivery option does not come with a tracking number. However, there is an option at the checkout to upgrade to a tracked delivery service. Orders to Australia usually take 5-10 business days, but can sometimes take up to 14 business days due to unforeseen delays in the postal service.

If your order has not arrived with you yet, please send an email to [email protected] with your name and order number and we can look into this further for you.

      Kind Regards,

Not sure why everyone is so quick to jump on the seller because they well items that are not road legal. As a buyer shouldn't we be the ones responsible to check that the items we buy are legal to use? In this day and age its not hard to google for information, so i think its hard for anyone to feel ill informed.

I've been purchasing off this site for the last 5 years, always purchasing the osram nightbreaker range which is road legal. I've only had one shipping problem that was quickly fixed. Do note that standard shipping to Australia takes between 3-4 weeks though, so order in advance.

No one is claiming to be ill informed. Product page for the HID Conversion Kit states

Please note: this kit is not road legal.

This is being sold / people are buying them to

      1. Combine with new reflectors, self levelling systems etc
      2. Only use on private property to make things brighter without flicking on the high beams
      3. Join the hoards of selfish morons on city roads who fit these to the incorrect reflectors dazzling super cool light everywhere but the road.

What do you think happens to most of these $120 kits?

I've been purchasing off this site for the last 5 years, always purchasing the osram nightbreaker

How long do your Nightbreakers last before they blow?

      • +1

Unfortunately nobody but the police can govern whether people use what they buy legally and i agree, there are too many idiots in category 3… I've been blinded many times driving at night by idiots. Hopefully the POPO are out there doing their job..

The original night breakers used to only last a year, but as soon as they went to plus they've been going strong. I think the current set is on two years and counting and i'm not even on nightbreaker unlimited yet.

        • …and this is why people are jumping on the seller. No one's saying what PB are doing is illegal but they're selling a product that's not legal and are well aware that in most instances it will be used in a way that will distract other road users.

Good to know there's something better than the Nightbreakers I had…will look into them again.

        • @OzBragain: Hi OzBragain,

Products such as Diamond Vision do not dazzle oncoming drivers - they are non-road legal due to their blue tint. As long as customers have their headlights aligned properly, using upgraded bulbs should not cause any glare for oncoming drivers.

We keep customers informed of the road legality of our bulbs. It is up to the customer whether they buy them or not.

          Kind Regards,

        • @PowerBulbs:

Products such as Diamond Vision do not dazzle oncoming drivers - they are non-road legal due to their blue tint.

Is this just an arbitrary decision made by regulatory authorities to make our lives more unpleasant or is there a genuine reason to discourage boy racers from whacking after market blue bulbs in their headlights. I'm certainly not an expert but from what I've read warmer tints allow us to pick up more contrast and detail making it a safer light to drive with.

You've conveniently ignored the concern over your after market HID conversions which are generally used illegally on public roads and is the reason for my vote. Most of these conversions are bought cheaply (and legally) to go in OEM halogen reflectors with no other changes so the knob heads can look cool…used on a public road and now illegal.

Products such as Diamond Vision do not dazzle oncoming drivers

…but 98% (imaginary internet statistic) of your HID kits do dazzle oncoming driver which is what raises the negative sentiment. What if the same test was applied to purchasing explosives components, WMDs or sharks with lasers. Let's make it fine for anyone to buy them but illegal once you try and harm someone…fairly flawed logic from anyone but the seller.

@OzBragain: According to an article on Powerbulbs own website, blue light is illegal because it can be confused with the blue light of emergency vehicles.

But from my own understanding, it is also simply because people need to be able to equate "white light" with car headlights.

I agree about visibility. I actually fitted 2900K yellowish headlights to my wife's champagne coloured car (with French custom plates), and apart from looking awesome, the visibility was much better. You can actually see colours in the dark, whereas my 4200K "Narva Intense" headlights cast a cool unsaturated light. Did you know that yellow (really yellow) headlights were compulsory in France until 1993?

As for the "it's up to customers" argument: Ozbargain does not permit illegal products, and in my opinion these things are as good as illegal if you cannot use them.

@Make it so: Hi Make it so,

HID Conversion Kits are legal to buy and to fit to your car. However, these are not legal for use on public roads. It is at the customers' discretion whether they use these on the road or not. How the bulbs are used by our customers is out of our control. Many people who buy HID Kits from us use them for car shows and track days (here in the UK this is legal as they are being used off-road).

As a company, we offer many road legal alternatives to HID Conversion Kits. If customers still choose to buy non-legal bulbs for use on public roads, that is their decision.

          Kind Regards,
          Emma | PB

So what unit are legal or all of the bulbs your do sell?

    • Hi Phreaker,

We sell some ranges that are road legal, and some that are not road legal. Please do let me know if you have further questions regarding a specific range of bulbs :)
