Steam Mop's Vs Regular Mops - Looking after Tiles

Hi All,

My wife and I recently rented an apartment. It is brand new and we are the first people to live in it. This is great in a lot of ways but also not so great in many ways. One of the ways it is not so great is cleaning - when our lease is complete, I can imagine they are going to look at the apartment with a microscope, considering it was given to us in brand new condition.

Mopping Tiles - any recommendations? Are steam mops worth it/good value for money?

Thanks to the OzBargain Community - I own a V6 Dyson Vacuum cleaner, a product I wouldn't have come across without spending time on this site. It is great and does everything I need perfectly and was good value for money.

I'm happy to spend up to $300 for this, if the item is worth it.

Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

  • Hi I think the condition of leaving to make sure the place is as clean and undamaged rather than as new.

    • Yepp.

The law gives allowance to fair "wear and tear" for tenants.
OP need not worry, and just enjoy his home.

Had a steam mop, was clunky and anoying so I stopped using.

Now I own a hand held steamer and a mop, use steamer for toilet ect.

I highly recommend a "spin" mop — I got mine from Australia Post. I have to mop my floors pretty much daily (my kitchen faces a landscape supply stockpile and my windows don't seal, I get a black dust coating things daily). The spin mops are super easy to use and get a really good result. I've been using mine for 12 months and the head is still in good condition.

    • Thanks very much. A spin mop seems to be the answer. (I had no idea what they were till this post - so thank you.)

Vacuum + spin mop (like a Vileda). Use warm water with a bit of vinegar/bleach/Domestos and you're done.

Steam is unnecessary. If you do it regularly you won't ever need steam power to "lift dirt" etc. In any case you can spot treat any serious gunk.

I'll use some domestos/warm water. Great.

      Thanks very much!

  • Spin mops are a gimmick. Buy a brand name microfibre mop, handle and a contractor bucket. Drop by aldi and get some floor cleaner. They're about $2 per bottle. Use hot or warm water and follow the ratio instructions on the bottle.

    • Would love to know as well!

      Edit - nope, I don't. It's over $1k!!

  • have a spin mop. it does take away some of the physical work from mopping but overall i think any old mop will do.
