  • and this phone actually has infrared, a removable battery, and MHL for HDMI output. Unlike the S7.

Says comes with Android 4.4, my S5 upgraded to Android 5 straight out of the box when it attached to wireless, and they are rolling out Android 6 for this phone also. Android 6 lets you store apps on the SD card, but just don't remove the SD card, so the 16G isn't a limiting factor if you upgrade to Android 6.

Actually a very good phone with all the 4G bands we use in australia, and lots of cheap accessories.

It's also splash / weather proof.

I know some people will talk of processor speed, but I never found that an issue with mine….. bigger issue is getting data off the network when the train is at the station …… that is coverage issue. Recently upgraded to a Moto X for a bigger screen, but never found the Samsung lacking elsewhere.

Chinese Android phones might have a few other features but won't have all the 4G bands or out of the box support for a user in Australia that an average consumer wants.

It's about the price I paid ($399) at one of those HN flash deals.

    • they are rolling out Android 6

Oh how nice of them. Over 12 months after release. If you take security seriously, don't buy Samsung people.

Edit: not my neg reason, see below.

    • Pretty sure the S5 got Marshmallow a while back and it's Nougat they're rolling out.

  • I would suggest it is a grey import .
From their "Terms and Conditions" web page-
"All items unless otherwise stated are offered and supplied by TCF GLOBAL LIMITED with full 12MTH AUSTRALIAN Warranty provided by Techrific Australia."

and from their "Return Policy" page-

    "Return of Faulty Goods
All Goods comes with full 12 MONTH Australian Warranty as specified in the product page.

If the problem is not major, we will repair the item within a reasonable time frame. If it is not repaired in a reasonable time frame, we will send an equivalent replacement unit."

No mention of manufacturers warranty or Samsung on the phone description page.

Seems like refurbished. Description from Condition section:

This phone is guaranteed to be as new and has never been used by an end consumer after remanufactured. Although the phone is Brand New in appearance this is not a factory brand new unit. It may or may not come in its original retail packaging and some stocks are sealed. Accessories such as the charger and earphones that come with it may come with after-market equivalents that are fully compatible with the phone.

    • Yet no mention in the ad description of it being refurbished. DODGY BUSINESS pulling tricks like that if it really is a refurb

      • No Deal for refurb. Good catch.

    • Theyre grey import refurbs as well. Ships from china and shipping is $30 to metro areas. Might as well wait for a kogan sale and buy from them at this rate i reckon.

This phone is two and a half years old and definitely trails the newer budget phones in most areas. The Oppo F1s deal at Optus is both $90/26% cheaper and a phone that has picked up some amazing reviews. Plus it's original list price was still much higher in many other countries.

    • Oppo are amazing. Glad they are taking on the overpriced Australian market.

    • However Oppo has no infrared (I love to use my S5 as a remote), no gyro, the S5 has bigger battery and higher resolution (probably the two cancels out each other somewhat :)), and is fairly dust/water resistant (a plus for outdoorsy people like myself). Also S5 records great video - 1080p at 60fps is quite nifty.

Just buy whatever suits you/your lifestyle better, you can have the best specs but what's the point if you don't use half of that :)

  • Send them an email and ask any questions …. Pay with PayPal if worried what will arrive ….
How much on eBay without warranty and signs of wear ??

  • I had this phone for a long time and now the wife is using it. Its an amazing phone but still con't believe its $350. It should be around $200 mark.

  • considering the LG G3 has same specs minus water proof and can be had for far far less then this I don't see this a great deal samsung is holding value though.

    however I would look elsewere.

Recently on ozb a deal with the motorola came up with a SD 801 brand new and was $179

This isn't really a great deal - but it's still cheap for the S5 considering other places like officeworks are still asking $500+
also I must mention that the front facing camera on the S5 is literally a patato.

I think part of holding value is android updates ….they are already Rolling out 6 for it.

    • they are already Rolling out 6 for it.

Already!? Android 6 was released over 12 months ago.

      • And highly likely that it wouldn't receive 7 (Samsung tend to do 2 major updates before ditching their flagship, though it might receive security patches once in awhile for a bit).

Plus, it's Lolli-mallow (UI elements from their Touchwiz from Lollipop with Marshmallow).

  • It's going for $319 on mydeals.com.au - just snaffled one for myself after my erstwhile S3 died a rather ungracious death.
