    • Has anyone comment on the quality of the photo books form ArtsCow?

Yes, it's the shipping that kills this deal. I recently ordered 4 books (8x8 inches, 30 pages) that were also "free". The postage for those four was 39 USD, if I remember correctly. Photo prints from Artscow are cheap and pretty good quality, but the books are not that great. Photos tend to look a grey, i.e. lacking contrast and the resolution is not the best either, you can see some sort of texture there from the printing process. Obviously depends also on the original photo and how much enhancement you are able to do. But definitely nowhere as great as normal photo prints.

    • Thanks for that Jakentta.

    • it’s the shipping that kills this deal

The full cost works out to be just over Au$9 per book, created and delivered…anywhere in the world…….which compares extremely well to other similar services.
I have made a number of these books, and been very happy with the results…The paper used is not the same as used with prints, I would agree…..however, they are very impressive for the price.
I have bought various things from artscow (canvas, books, key rings, etc) and I have yet to be disappointed with any of the goods.
They make very good gifts, and can be delivered worldwide for the one flat shipping rate….good for friends/rellies overseas

      • Well, I have to admit that it is quite a decent price for the books. And does compare well with other services price-wise , however, I have not ordered books with any other service, so I can't compare the quality.
The paper in the books is closer to matt finish photos, but obviously not as thick as normal photo prints. Some photos look quite dull on it, lacking the brightness in brighter tones and blacks are not quite as black as I would hope. Or maybe it's just my photos that are dull =)
Still, just like andy19363, I have also used their services to send books to friends and relatives overseas and will probably continue to do so. I am also planning to use some other service to order a book or two, just to get some reference about the quality.

        • I have bought books from Big w before, and they were similar in quality, (more expensive though), although I have only ever done softcover books with them.

I like the way you can really personalise these books, adding text, and differing backgrounds…am currently scanning lots of old piccies….Editing/enhancing the photos and creating these books really makes the photos interesting and accessible again, rather than sat in old albums :)

  • For rellies in the UK try www.photobox.co.uk, do similar deals but postage to UK much better. I think they have a free prints on signup too.

    • For rellies in the UK try www.photobox.co.uk, do similar deals but postage to UK much better.

      postage in UK is au$6.78
softcover book, 6 more pages, seems less in the way of customisation options…even with the current 35% off is still around au$23.
      Making it $30ish, delivered

      take off the vat??
      down to au$26ish

I'd still rather go the $9ish delivered from Artscow in this current promotion…..

  • We had a 20 page book given to us as a gift just this week - printed through Artscow. Quality is great. It is a book, and printed on glossy paper, so not the same quality as photographs. Colours look great. The binding is sewn, and not glued.
