  • I assume this is the Yi 2 since the Yi isn't a 4K camera.

    • Yes it is. Officially called Yi 4K Action Camera.

      • +1

Huh, well I'll be, you're right. It's called the Yi 2 virtually everywhere but that's not the official name.

        • It's the unofficial name sellers gave it before Yi released their products internationally. The Chinese version is still commonly called the Yi II or Yi 2.

  • I've been hunting around for an OG Yi camera these last few weeks, kicking myself I didn't grab one when they were nearer to $100.

This seems pretty great, even if it is much more than I am willing to spend on a goofy action cam. I'm wondering though, what's the battery life like for non-4k use? 120min is pretty hopeless for the things I want to goof around with with one of these.

    • Several reviewers have said they got somewhere between 2hrs 35mins - 2hrs 50mins from 1080p @ 30fps and 1hr 30mins for the GoPro Hero4 Black.

  • +2

I just received the YI 2 (4K) in the mail. I originally bought it off GeekBuying, but they had it on back order for too long and so cancelled the order and purchased it from another seller.

I can say that this is an absolute bargain, even without the assessory pack! I have been playing with it for the last few days and I am very impressed with it. Can't wait to take it on holidays and then back to South Korea, where I am currently living.

I ordered note 3 on 22nd Oct via DHL still order is processing. Very bad service. never buy again.

    • +1

Note 3 had come in stock very recently after being on presale. Shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll look into it. Same goes for anyone else.

      • I live in Taipei so I can't start a conversation.

        Order number: order #3809108.

Ordered over three weeks ago. They keep saying it will be shipped soon but it never does.

I paid for DHL and I'm trying to ship to my Taiwanese address.

        • And I don't live in China ;)

I'll send customer service a message.

        • @Clear:

I just mean Ozbargain won't let me PM you since my location is outside of Australia hence why I had to message you in the comments.

        • @spamsational: Oh right makes sense lol. You have no idea how many people think Chinese ;)

  • +1

    I agree
I also bought a nite 3 international version and it hasn't been sent.
I will not buy from them again either.
    I've logged it with paypal

Considering the other stories it's worth saying - I recommended geekbuying to someone and they bought the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 on my recommendation. They paid the expensive very quick shipping. A couple of weeks later geekbuying emailed them and said that the price they'd bought it at wasn't reflective of the current price and therefore they had to pay extra (it was $10-$20 I think) before they'd send it. Highly dodgy, especially considering the shipping they'd chosen. They paid the extra and got the item fairly quickly after that. But still. Dodgy.

I don't think that'd happen with this deal. I think they recognise the profitability of a site like this and would always honour that and not pull that crap. But still. Messed up bullhonky.

Why did I vote positive? I should remove that.

    • That's unbelievable if true. Geekbuying should be banned.

      • -7

Pricing errors happen sometimes. A common occurrence on Ozbargain.

        • Righto can you provide an example of a company refusing to post a purchased item unless the buyer gives them more money?

          @Clear: Order Number: #3601365

          The relevant email:

          Hello customer,
          Thank you for your order
Everybody know that xiaomi is really the most popular and top selling brand among all Made in China cellphones.  However, they only supply very limited quantity each time which makes huge of our orders a lot of delay. And we know that you are so worried but eager to get the amazing xiaomi MiPad 2 in hand. The good news is that we can get them from the market at a much higher price (24 USD more) and then we can delivery all orders in 2 business days.
This situation was out of our control but we should let customers know the truth. So we want to discuss with you with these decisions:
1.We each Share the extra cost by 50% and pads will be sent at the soonest time. If you agree with this, we will send you an email for you to make up the price of 12USD.(and we can only offer the golor color, so if you choose silver, can you accept gold ?)
2.you can change into the 16 GB gold version(359175), and we will refund some price to you and ship it soon

We look forward to your soonest decision. Thanks you so much for your understandings!
          Best regards,
          Kate

@Clear: In mos tcommon law jurisdictions once you accept the money someone pays you, the contract is on foot and you have to deliver the product you promised. (eg. http://www.9news.com.au/national/2016/11/10/15/22/brisbane-m…)

I know the transaction occurred in China, so Western contract laws don't apply.. but generally this is part of where people's complaints are coming from.

The other problem is that they purchased an item listed as in stock, paid extra for very fast shipping, you instantly charged their card and took your money.. but then took weeks to even think about checking the price and dispatching it. If someone paid extra for quick shipping, they need the item soon.

If they're waiting for their item to ship, and only after inform them two weeks later that it was mispriced, you've pretty much negated the point of them paying extra for quick shipping.. at that point you should take off the extra they paid for quick shipping because clearly you've taken 2 weeks to even think about dispatching it.

        • -2

@simulacrum: I'm well aware of Aussie consumer law and I agree with you. I'm just trying to make the point that they could have cancelled the order if they did not want to pay extra.

Important to remember I'm just associated with GB employees and not a Store Rep.

        • @Clear:

I'm well aware of Aussie consumer law and I agree with you. I'm just trying to make the point that they could have cancelled the order if they did not want to pay extra.

General contract law in this instance, but I agree with you in principle. I actually think refunds on mispriced items are fine, it's happened to me plenty of times. My main issue with the situation as presented is the delay - particularly given the customer paid for fast shipping.

PS - For the record I'm not downvoting you

        • +1

@simulacrum: Yep. Definitely something I'll be talking to Mr GB about.

Downvotes are no biggy. Usually pretty easy to work out who.

        • +1

@Clear: Mate, well done on handling all the negative feedbacks. Gives me some confidence after clicking buy then reading all the comments below

@No Child Support: Thanks for the support. Let me know if you ever need help with anything. I'm happy to help.

@Clear: I'm not seeing anything about a pricing error in that email. They appear to have only been able to order a certain quantity at a certain price, their website didn't reflect that, the price changed with their supplier but they'd already oversold the product beyond their "in stock" levels.

It was an "error" entirely of their own making by not including a realistic stock quantity.

  • I also purchased Redmi Note 3 on 20 Oct DHL shipping and website stated shipping in 2 days > then when it passed > to 10 days and then they did same again > 10 days and recieved this email 2 days ago

    Dear Sir or Madam
Thank you for your order from Geekbuying.
We are sorry to tell you that the item you ordered " Phone" is too popular to meet all the demands ,
we just need to get them from the factory .it is estimated that it will be in stock next week .
please don't worry ,once it is in stock , we will ship it out ASAP. and will send you a message with the tracking number.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

    Best regards,
    XXXX

and i expect it will take 2 weeks to receive after they get stock :(

But i also must give credit after first delay they also reduced price by us$10 and when i complain about delay and lower price they refuned me the us$10
but did not expect multiple change of shipping dates.

    • Presales are a first come first serve basis. It does take quite a while to pack and ship out thousands of orders.

      • +1

But there is no need to lie about it

        My order number 3807677

First email they are holding my parcel there until I reply

Dear Jesse ,We hold your parcel ,you mean you do not need to change
        the item?
        Sincere regards,

        Silvia

Second email some as above with out of stock notice. I then tell them to cancel the order as this wait time was not agreed to the website said 2 days

Third email they have stock again yet the Web page where you can order more still says out of stock. And for some reason they are going to open the phone to run tests. I've never bought a new phone where the seller needs to test it.

        Dear sir,

Thank for your patient waiting ,

we are glad that the  items you ordered  are
        currently in our warehouse.
they are being tested now ,

Once it passes our strict quality
testing, we will send it out as
        soon as possible.

please be at ease .i have asked our warehouse workmates to put your order ahead of others , .and will send you a message with the tracking number soon.

We are sorry  for the inconvenience
         caused.If you have any questions,
feel free to contact us .

        Sincere regards,

        Silvia

  • Hobbyking has a number of other imitation GoPros which do 4K for about half this price.

    • +1

And is the quality on the same level? There are many budget Allwinner 4K cameras with bad quality or upscaling.

  • +5

I came on to buy one of these, but not going to now based on the comments. Get your act together GearBest.

    • This isn't GearBest, and it's not a presale either so there will be no issues.

      • +1

Except if there's a common pricing error and then I get asked to pay more or cancel the order.

        • Definitely not, that's the first I'm aware of and there was never an Ozb deal for it either. I always ensure that there is enough stock and the price is final in my deals.

  • +3

I bought this exact same package two months ago as a backup camera and hasn't received it yet. Well no, I received the extra battery, charging dock and the mount but no camera or WP case, fat load of good that will do lol!

    • You said that you have one in your post. Did that end up coming from Geek or elsewhere? If the one from GeekBuying never turned up, did you talk to somone about getting a refund?

      • yeah I got it from elsewhere. I've been talking to them but they want me to wait 60 days before they do anything about it!

        • Shoot me a PM with your order number. I'll make sure it gets refunded.

        • +1

          @Clear: thanks mate

  • +1

Thanks for the feedback on GeekBuying, everyone. Was keen to grab this deal this morning, but after reading of people's experiences, I'll give it a miss.

    • +1

The Note 3 people are referring to had a deal on presale with a warning about massive delays. As this camera is instock, there will be not be a delay.

I'll happily admit that the Mi Pad fiasco wasn't handled correctly by customer service. I will always try and get a resolution if people are willing to work with me.

      • Can you send me a pm please
I can only reply not initiate one

        • +1

Go here and tick the box that says Allow private messages followed by Save Preferences.

        • @Clear:
          Done

  • I bought this on preorder and have been using it since July, amazing little camera and would highly recommend it.

I have to say that I was a bit annoyed that the official Xiaomi waterproof case clip that harnesses the case together has snapped already. Maybe just get a couple of the cheaper generic ones.

  • +2

This + other Chinese clones are the reason GoPro stock has been diving…

  • +1

I haven't had any issues with Geekbuying, takes 3-4 weeks which is expected but all my orders have turned up

  • Are you able to do a deal on the older xiaomi cameras?

    • Anything you're after specifically?

      • Camera + a case and a battery. Or anything really :) The cheaper the better ;)

  • +2

For those who don't need or want the additional accessories, the Aliexpress 11/11 promotion is also a pretty good offer. $276.89 AU (maybe slightly less with discount coupons). Limited to 6000 units though.

  • what is the delivery time on one of these?

Do you have an option for expedited shipping?

which companies do you ship with?

    do you provide tracking numbers?

    • Free shipping takes 3-4 weeks on average, but can take up to 30 business days. It's usually sent with China Post, Singapore Post or PostNL.

DHL is available and takes 3-4 days after processing. EMS can take up to a week after processing and is normally fulfilled by Auspost Express when it reaches Australia.

All three options include tracking numbers.

      • do you have an option to select DHL only?

how long does it take to process orders?

Have got no faith in the other carriers sorry.

        • In the shopping cart click "Proceed to Checkout" as it'll let you choose the shipping method before payment. Processing can be up to 7 days. Usually in 1-3 days.

  • If you can afford to spend more and are looking for one of these camera's I highly recommend the new Sony 4k X3000v Action cam, Superb image stabilization and image quality!

  • HI guys

Would this be a good replacement for my home video camcorder?

Looking to get something compact and this seems like the go.

  • "Please kindly note the camera is in stock now and will be shipped seperately."

are all the included accessories in stock? What is the process time for it? If I use DHL when should I be getting them (sydney)? Thanks

    • I will confirm with staff and let you know.

    • This is not true, ordered on 11/11, now my order status "Portion of order shipped", got a holiday line up in Dec, not happy!!

      • I didn't order just because of that statement and Clear didnt get back to me

        • +1

Sorry I get so many notifications sometimes that I'll miss something. Camera is shipped separately from the accessories as they're in China and the camera is in Hong Kong.

  • -8

I'll have to neg this one.
    I want a 4K@60p h.265 action camera for under $200 AUD

  • How does the image quality actually compare to a GoPro Hero5 Black?

If it was $100 then it'd be a no-brainer, but $310 is kinda expensive! Specs often lie: if the real world IQ is not as good as a GoPro then I may as well just pay the extra 25% for the GoPro camera that I know will look great.

    • +3

A lot of reviews on Youtube show that the quality is as good if not better than that of the Hero5.

  • Can I get more info on what is in the "skateboard accessories"?

  • No HDMI out?

    • No unfortunately.

  • +1

For those who don't know much about the Yi 2 4K, just youtube Xiaomi Yi 2 4K vs GoPro 4 black (or 5) and see the difference. Surprisingly, this is an actual GoPro killer in many aspects.

  • I'd avoid this mob. Terrible customer service and did not provide update until you start asking.

  • Hi Clear,
I see this is either the US or EU edition, does this mean the charging outlets are not Australian?
Also can you make this applicable to the white version?
    Thanks

    • +1

It doesn't include an AC adapter. The difference between US and EU editions is their safety certifications.

I'll ask GB for to be applicable on white.

      • Ahh I see the charger is USB, thanks appreciate the swift reply.

      • +1

        Entering the coupon code for white produces this message;

Sorry, the coupon code is not valid for orders less than USD 283

        • Hey Clear,

Do you have any update on the discount to be added to white?

        • +4

@bxy00: There are less people available on the weekend. I'll let you know when I have an update.

  • I bought a Qualcomm USB charger on 1st of October and still haven't received yet.

I've emailed support team to check or refund, but hand balled to another team and got ignored.

very bed experience with geekbuying and wouldn't recommend.

    • If you selected free shipping it can take up to 30-40 business days from the shipping date. This is standard with China.

      • order confirmation shows 15-30 business days. so which one is right?

        • 15-30 business days for free tracked shipping. What date was it dispatched?

        • @Clear: 7/10/16

        • @ek: So about 31 business days. Tracking should say it's left for country or arrived in Australia. Shouldn't be too far now.

        • @Clear: thanks for your help. I will wait for few more days.

        • @Clear: Hi Clear, I haven't got the item and tried to get a refund but no answer from the customer service. Very disappointed on the service.

        • @ek: I guess Auspost have potentially lost your parcel. What's the order number? I'll let GB know.

  • +2

If you buy from geekbuying, make sure you dont throw out the plastic wrapping before you are sure you got the right item.

I ordered a mi5 128b last month, after a month of waiting they finally sent the order and they had sent me a cheap redmi note 4, which is less than 1/2 the cost. 9 days later when they finally bothered to respond to my emails they refused to acccept they had sent me to wrong phone as I couldnt post a photo of the QC sticker attacked to the plastic shrinkwrap.

I would be very wary buying from geekbuying again.

  • Very bad service, ordered 10 days still processing. According the website, processing time is 2-7 days. Never buy it again!

    • Business days, but still over time by a day. What's your order number? I'll let customer service know.
