$179 New Nintendo 3DS Console with Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer @ Target Bull Creek WA

140

Went into Target Bull Creek (not sure if other stores have it) to buy a new Nintendo 3DS XL console in anticipation for the new Pokemon Sun & Moon games and ended up buying this instead. It was on clearance and there were still at least 5 consoles left.

Probably not the cheapest regular new 3DS, as I looked through OzBargain and saw the new 3DS XL model going for around $180 in the past. Though this is a bundle, so it's a pretty decent deal if you are looking to get everything in this bundle.

It has firmware version 9.9.0-26E if anyone is curious.

Same price at Carindale (QLD) a week and a half ago (they had maybe 7 in stock).

    • Yeah. Seen these a few times. Didn't post as it didn't seem like a huge bargain. Was I wrong?

  • Is this the old version 'Nintendo 3DS' or the new version 'New Nintendo 3DS'? Thanks.

      New

It's the "New" version, you can tell because of the extra analog stick and coloured buttons.

Same price at Mt Ommaney as well. Definitely nationwide.

    "It has firmware version 9.9.0-26E"

That should make a few people happy.

    • Do you mind me asking why? Is there a specific firmware that's more stable than others?

      • +2

It's a case of homebrew, being able to hack the 3DS console.

        • Ah I see, thanks for clarifying.

        +1 for this guide :)

I bought a powersave from ozgameshop so I can use this on my 10.7.0-32E. Waiting for it to arrive but otherwise I'm all ready for this

      • Oh wow, I didn't realise that the 3ds had been hacked.

        • Has been for years.

  • On black Friday in the US there's going to be a black & white version of the 3ds for $100 USD so it might be worth waiting for that one

    • I saw that too, it's gonna be $99 from the ad I saw. Though wouldn't it be region locked unless you hack the console? Also it's US only or Nintendo is gonna have that special deal for other countries too?

      • it's worth keeping an eye on, if Amazon have them they may ship to Aus, not sure about region locking though.

        • True, especially if you can import the games from US or hack your console. I read up about it, the console would be region locked and the firmware is most likely 11.0+ so not possible to hack unless you have another 3DS to do a system transfer hack.

But $99 is pretty darn tempting, though I feel like owning a XL version now as I'm too used to my 5.5" screen on my phone.

        • @WaveZero:

You mean https://plailect.github.io/Guide/dsiware-downgrade for the downgrade?

Both systems MUST be from the same region.

        • @futaris:
Oh nevermind then. Then it's not possible to CFW those cheap $99 firmware unless you do the hardware mod.

          Thanks for pointing that out.

I still haven't touched my console yet as I'm busy with other commitments, but is it still worthwhile to hack it? You can upgrade to the latest firmware after installing A9LH? I haven't read about how that process is supposed to work. Or do you install a CFW that contains Nintendo's latest firmware?

        • @WaveZero:

freeshop and 11.2 on A9LH works fine. I upgraded my O3DS from 4.3 (running gateway on a DSTWO) easily enough, by following the guide.

You upgrade to the latest firmware after installing A9LH.

        • @futaris:
          Thanks for the info.

I had time today to install A9LH + LUMA3DS on my 3DS. It wasn't that much of a hassle on an old firmware like this.

Any recommendations of homebrew apps? Freeshop sounds good. Still quite new to this homebrew stuff.

Also what about the applications that can be assigned to a button to run at startup, any tools I should assign to my 3DS to enchance the functionality? I just have Hourglass9 as instructed by the guide.

        • @WaveZero:

          Retroarch
          BlargSnes
          Freeshop

I haven't really assigned any apps to other buttons, etc.

        • @futaris:
          Alright, thanks!

I will relive my SNES and GBC/GBA days!

  • There's a standard size New 3ds at Harvey Norman City West (Perth) for $166 IIRC. There's only one, so I didn't post it.

    • just called, that one got sold yesterday :( none nationwide anymore in standard new 3ds or new 3ds xl

  • 10 still on display in bullcreek, Perth and plenty of pokemon stock too

  • Is this the best price in Australia for a new 3ds? Except for the HN deal which doesn't seem widely available, I've seen a few targets with this animal crossing bundle

  • Just bought one from Miranda NSW. Still a couple left if anyone's interested.

  • Bought one from Innaloo last week.
    One was still left.
Installed A9LH + LUMA3DS EUR with no issues on it (ok, i had to run downgrade twice, first time it failed ;)

  • Just got EB to price match this from Target :) Thanks!
