Just double check that they are actually Qantas planes, if that's what you're expecting! I have had a few friends suckered by Travel Agents and the flights were actually Jetstar planes, codeshares, but, at Qantas prices. Bestie was especially NOT pleased!!

travel agents dont sucker clients , possibly the agent assumed being inexperienced but every itinerary would say QF10 for instance operated by Jetstar so I am guessing your friends didnt read it properly before they paid too

      • wow defending my job gets me negs wasnt even being rude about it … by all means tell me what you do for a living and I am happy to tell you about a bad experience too with that

Don't expect too much leniency from the pitchfork squad here on OzB…

    • Checking the MEL-HNL dates and it seems that there are many genuine Qantas flights available. You can clearly see when clicking the flight details: http://imgur.com/a/aGRJN

      @peeweekathi

Just checked every departure city, and all metal is QANTAS.

      • I'll tell the bestie it's safe to book again, with Qantas then! LOL! Thanks TA!

I flew Jetstar to Hawaii in July this year. Plane was brand new and really comfortable. We packed a few sandwiches and had a great flight. Compared to an Emirates flight a few years back the service wasn't as good but the plane was much nicer.

To be honest though, I wouldn't bother with anyone other than Jetstar to Hawaii. They regularly have return flights to at sub $500 so unless you're desperate, I'd wait.

      • Unless it's Jetstar from Brisbane as they have now stopped the route.

can you use qantas points to upgrade to business with these bookings?

    • +1

I haven't checked, but presumably not because they would almost certainly be sale fares and you cannot upgrade sale fares.

  • No deal for Perth?

    • No no no no. No deal.

Thanks for posting TA. Good deal.

Just a little word of warning, however. I took Qantas on this route a little while ago, having decided to pay extra over Jetstar for the comfort. But I was surprised at how old (and not necessarily comfortable) the Qantas A330 planes were. Very dated and cramped. And food was of the 1980s airline variety.

In fact, I think the Jetstar flights use new 787 Dreamliners? Just looking at pictures online, these seem to offer equal or perhaps greater comfort than the Qantas option.

    Something to consider.

Otherthwise, definitely recommend Hawaii as a holiday destination. Never thought I'd be interested in going there, but Kauai really surprised me and was fantastic.

I'm currently waiting on a $339 Dreamliner JQ3 to Honolulu while stacking on some kilos in the Qantas lounge (thanks to St George c/card. Hopefully there's a delay so I can squeeze in few more kilos. Also switched my seats to emergency exit row at checkin. I hope to have pleased the OzBargain gods :-)

From January it looks like Qantas has put the last two non refurbished A330-200s onto the Beijing route.
All A330-300s are refurbished (which is what it looks like Qantas has put on the route from January). Always pays to check what aircraft is assigned however (the non refurbished 200s are missing rows 36-44 in economy and have a 2-2-2 layout in Business instead of 1-2-1 on the refurbs)

      • What is the difference in economy with the refurbished seats? I doubt any more space.

        • USB Charging, 240V shared, footnet on the -300's, better IFE (Panasonic exLite on the 300's and mix of QStreaming or seatback IFE on the 200's. Unrefurbed 200 has 6 inch Rockwell Collins IFE). Seat size are similar, but seat cushioning noticeably better on the refurbished ones.

Having been on all 4 options in Economy (Refurbed 300, both types of refurbed 200 and the unrefurbed 200) I'd say the 300 is by far the best of the lot.

  • I haven't been for a while at this time of year but when I did last go around March, it was really quite cool and rained more than we had ever experienced even on the leeward sides. Made swimming and the usual ocean adventures not so tempting.

June to November are pretty hot and awesome though.

Might've just been unlucky. Other people's experiences would be interesting.

    • I went in early September this year. It was pleasantly warm/tropical, but every day it rained just a little bit, which I also found to be pleasant. It even started raining during a hike we did in the hills, but it was "big ol' fat rain" and it was warm, so that wasn't bad at all. A couple of the days it rained such that it stopped us from going to the beach etc, but even that was relaxing and made for a nice day lounging about in doors.

      • Same for us in mid October. Only rained majorly one day so we went shopping!

  • A small additional fee may apply if paying by CC
"May" sounds like there is a way to avoid it, is there?

    • Perhaps if you're wearing puffy director's pants…

  • Cant find too many deals in April from Sydney

  • Looks like a Hawaiian Airlines doing same fare out of Sydney Daily and - $800 return ( cheaper via Skyscanner)
