Does sound too good to be true

  • Urgh, IQ3. I wouldn't take it even if it's free…. Oh wait…

  • You could probably ask for an 1Q2.. just a heads up price rises After 1st month if you add up new pricing basic, sport is $55( basic $26 + $29 sport)

    • +1

So after the free month you ring up to say you will cancel unless you get to keep the old pricing, keeping your $50 gift card.

I think Foxtel would be more likely to give you a deal to retain your business given the up front investment in installation, gift card, set top box.

  • IQ3 is so slow and buggy it's ridiculous

No catches with this deal so you can leave at anytime. It's better to sign up online as you can also get a free $50 gift card. https://www.foxtel.com.au/get.html

you can checkout anytime you like, but you can never leave.

let me get this straight. you can sign up, get free foxtel for a month, installed, and a free $50 gift card. cancel, not pay a cent and enjoy free foxtel and $50 gift card for a month? no bs?

      • +3

        enjoy free foxtel

        Lol.

      • Yes if you sign up online only but you won't get the $50 gift card until the box is installed in your home.

how on earth do people still find foxtel worth paying for during a time where there's netflix, kodi, youtube etc? just insane.

    • +6

      In a word - sport

      • -6

kodi -> sports add-on like exodus/salts and done.

AFL, cricket, soccer, all that shit live. I know plenty of people who have Foxtel SOLELY for them, and I'm someone who literally couldn't give a single shit less about ALL sports, so the fact I know so many people like that in my circles, means there must be a damn large amount of people who have use for Foxtel.

There was a long story here, but here's the short version, I have both Foxtel and Netflix for free and I find Foxtel to be of more use. Netflix is cool if I wanna watch half a season of something, and if I have the time, but really, Foxtel let's me tape all my shit, watch a bunch more programs than Netflix has, and it doesn't rely on internet (so if it's out, my tele is usable as something other than a paper weight).

Downloading my shows is still the best way to get them as quick and conveniently as possible, and probably will be for the next fair few years, but Foxtel isn't too far behind either. They show Simpsons and Family Guy and Star Wars Rebels and whatnot a day or two after America debuts them in most cases, Netflix takes ages to add anything, if even at all.

  • I can confirm there are no catches (the girl on the phone had to read almost the whole T&C while recording). You can ask for the Platinium package for 50 the first month and then switch to the only packages you want. (Entertainment+Sports in my case). With HD ends up being $61 a month but there is no contract and no cost for IQ3, definitely better deal than Telstra's current offers.

  • +3

They're STILL charging extra for HD?! Wow.

I hear Foxtel are diversifying into this new-fangled "automobile" fad…

  • what if you don't have a Telstra connection into the house……..

You could get a satellite dish installed??

  • New customers only on Direct Debit.

If you've had a previous installation but have left them already, would you be considered new?

    • It depends when you left. I believe the definition is if you left more than 6 months ago then you're considered 'new' again.

      • damn, not me then :(

    • Have another family member sign up instead.

      • At the same residences?

  • called them up it's 3 months to be considered new
