EB Games Assorted PS3 Games for $1 E.g.: Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, Resistance 2, Disney Infinity Starter Pack

769

UPDATE: Looks like most of our orders are being cancelled. Even my own order did: all items "couldn't be found" by staff. Not sure if that means a stock count error or sticky-fingered employees. I've altered the title but might have to take this deal down altogether. In the meantime if you want to take the risk, you can. Did anyone at all get at least a 'sent' confirmation?

… … … … … Original Post: … … … … …

There's a bunch of PS3 games selling for $1 on EB games.

A bunch of caveats, though:

  • Postage seems to start at about $9, so mainly a deal if you're buying several
  • New as in "not used", not recent releases
  • More like "new discs, ex-display cases and manuals", if past experience with EB online sales is anything to go by. Expect bumped and creased cases where stickers were removed, thumbed-through manuals, and definitely no shrink wrap
  • In the last sale posted here, EB games stock system was crap. You might not get all the games you order, and if you want to get a refund on the postage, you'll have to call them and chase them up.

See comments on the previous sale here:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275082?page=3#comment

But if you think it's worth the risk… I just bought 6 decent new games for less than $17 delivered:

Resistance 2 (PlayStation 3) $1.00
Disney Infinity Starter Pack (pictures show the one with pad and figures, not just disc - PlayStation 3) $1.00
Killzone 2 (PlayStation 3) $1.00
Red Dead Redemption (PlayStation 3) $1.00
Borderlands Game of the Year (PlayStation 3) $1.00
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (PlayStation 3) $1.00

Items: $6.00 Shipping: $10.31 TOTAL (inc GST): $16.31

So I thought this is worth posting, if most of them arrive (all of mine arrived last time).

(If you find any for other consoles, post in comments or a new deal, I didn't have time to look).

Yeah, looks like they've switched back to shipping directly from store again so a lot of stock has come back online.

Keep in mind that the website still isn't very accurate in terms of stock levels. I bought something today and 5 minutes later I received a 'Oops, we looked and can't find it' email. There was only one showing in the country so someone must have beaten me to it!

Some items will appear as 'In Stock' and it won't tell you there aren't any until the Confirm Payment page, definitely some room for improvement on their part. The system is new and had a shaky first run a week and a bit ago so hopefully they smooth things out after finding all the bugs (which you should report to them if you want things to improve).

    • +8

Now we know where all the Dick Smith staff went!

    • +2

Yep, I ordered the PS4 Mirror's Edge Catalyst weeks ago when it first got heavily discounted and only just received an email the other day saying that it was out of stock. And they didn't refund me postage. Because EB are a bunch of crooks.

    • +3

Seems to be a number of factors leading to orders being canceled.

The stock levels are so wrong now because they are shipping from individual stores now rather than one warehouse. So instead of having to ensure one warehouse has the correct stock levels it's the warehouse plus 450 stores who all have different stock levels.

It's also possible that stores do have the stock but staff don't have the time to find and accept the orders. Some stores had 50+ pending requests for items at once with only one staff member working (Who also has to serve regular in store customers & answer phone calls). Each request also has a one hour timer on it before it's automatically rejected.

    • Evidently their system attempts to fulfil the order at three stores (or so customer service said) before being rejected. I only got 3/10 delivered and after feeling shattered I now feel lucky after reading these posts…

Nothing but issues with online orders :(

      • Yeah it's a damn shame, some real good bargains there! I've had a number of orders cancelled but the other items I've received make up for that so I'm not too salty :-P

  • where to find a dirt cheap ps3 console

    • Nothing under about $100, still, after all these years, unfortunately.

PS3 is still popular (and honestly, why not? Each new console is less of a leap forward in terms of graphics, etc. It's still fun to play, just doesn't cost a crazy $300 plus $70 per game…).

    • +1

Cash Converters have them for <$100 if 2nd hand is ok

  • +1

I was interested in 360 games so ended up with a number of $1 new games and assorted 2nd hand ones. Ended up with 27 games and 2 power packs for $82 delivered to Adelaide.

    • Nice! Hope you get all (or at least most) of them…

  • In the last sale I bought a book and some PS3 games. They send the PS3 games in separate small packets (good), and the book was on it's own in a HUUUUUGE box (CRAZY!).

    • Yeah I received a vita game in a shoe box sized box.

  • +1

Managed to select pick up at my local store for Red Dead so no postage fee, thanks!

Edit: Scratch that, the store "couldn't find" the product so the order had to be cancelled.

  • +4

In the last sale I ordered five things and after their pathetic "oops" email I only got two (yet they charged full postage, of course), one of which was torn. They don't even bother responding to customer emails, either.

EB Games can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.

    • Thanks for the warning .. I tried ordering pickup from stores near by .. but got the oops emails 3mins after I ordered … seems like a waste of time

      • +2

I had similar thing last time, got knocked down to singles of items (put through one order for each system in my collection)

and out of the 5 orders, 3 of them got knocked down to 1 item each less than $4, yet still got charged $20 shipping.

Facebook messaged them to get some bs about flatrate shipping and how they'd still get charged to send an empty box.

So put through a paypal claim and got ALL of my shipping costs back from all 5 orders.

Before that sounds like a good thing, a lot of hte gear I ordered including several items on the other orders that remained full were either wrong, not as described or damaged, or my favorite, claiming the item was new for it to arrive disc only second hand…..

        Nice one EB.

    • +4

I had the same, except I ordered 7 things and received 1. $13 for a $4 game (originally an $80 order or so).

Tried complaining and have received zero response from them, absolutely useless. Filed a paypal complaint in the end.

      • +3

eb have no customer service, paypal however do :)

Moral of the story pay with paypal…

        • +4

Thanks all above, Paypal claim instigated.

        • +4

@flumpf: if it helps just cite the fact that they did not give you an option to cancel the order and standard shipping for a dvd packet is $2-3.

I also had multiple orders so cited the fact that they could have merged them, which they did on the other orders as they were from numerous stores, that way they cant claim it was not do-able.

        • +1

@typhoonadventure: Cheers for the advice, I'll resort to that if need be. At present it's because the two items I received of the five are both damaged.

  • +2

Not just PS3, change departments on the side. There are some $1 Xbox 360, 3DS and Wii U games too.

  • +3

Halfway through Red Dead Redemption's main campaign - they don't make games like this anymore.

Easily worth $20-30, I'd pick this game up immediately.

    • If you're after the plat, you may want to start doing the MP straight away.

The MP is really horrible tacked on mess

      • Is it still glitched so you can do that infinite headshot trick and rank up in 2hours?

        • It was when I tried it, PS3 version a few months ago.

  • It seems express shipping is the same price or its a glitch

  • Fantastic stuff. Ordered 16 games. seems they charge around 50c/game shipping?

    • I think it's more like minimum $9, then goes up a couple of dollars when it hits certain weight/size thresholds…

  • +1

Thanks. I ordered a stack of stuff last time & received everything. Hoping for the same this time, got 18 games!

    • So I got 5/18 games - better than none I guess.

  • +2

And boom already had a rejection email for an order within 30m of making it.

And the usual 4 business days to refund money we literally just took from you….

      • thats illegal, it means we're not buying games, we're buying a 1 in 5 chance of getting it.

        Illegal lotto.

  • +7

Just a word of warning to everyone thinking of buying from eb. I ordered 8 items ranging from $1-10. Paid $20 in shipping and it all came to around $50. A week later, they sent out only 1 of the 8 items, and cancelled the other 7 with a "we can't find your item" email. Got refunded for the 7 items that were cancelled but they did not refund the shipping. Basically ended up paying $24 for the one game that was supposed to be $4. They refused to refund me any amount on the shipping. Couldn't even refund in-store as their website suggests because postage time and emailing them and receiving a reply took over a week, which is the time they give you to refund in-store.

  • +5

If only we had some form of government body in Australia to protect consumers from crap like EB pull that actually had some teeth…

    • I agree. Maybe the government body's name should be a four-lettered acronym for easy pronunciation…

      • So I'm a pretty infrequent visitor here and it sounds like you're kidding around, but is there any reason why we shouldn't be going to ACCC with this bullcrap? I ordered 5 games, got an email saying 1 was being delivered (so postage cost is warranted), a few hours later got an email saying the rest "couldn't be found". Honestly, this seems like a systematic rort by EB games here. Very, very shady. I guess they figure the amounts are so small that no one would bother to complain?

  • +1

Ordered 5 items yesterday. Today email 4 not in stock, but still available online to order…

Rang up to complain and they did promise to refund postage on the last item. $8 for a $4 game?!

  • I've tended to be pretty lucky with these cheap $1 games. Almost always in great condition, and I only got 1 oops e-mail, and that was for Persona 4 Golden, which I already had but was buying for a friend. One game got lost in the post though, and they gave me the $1 refund which I got a kick out of.

  • +1

$9 for the last of us PS3 is a good price, ive ordered with a few other $1 games, total order under $25, hopefully it gets fulfilled.

    • digital TLoU GOTY is currently $10.95 on AU PSN Store for + members

    • +1

Good luck! I ordered that one myself in the last sale, and actually got it!

  • +4

I've gone all in: "You will save $862.25!" ($204 spent)

I'm a collector of old gaming so buying at $1 is probably the bottom of the market for okay "new" games. Yes - I bought a few books & games at $4 as well.

I'll tell you how I go. Lets see if I get half of them.

    • +1

You'll get a lot if cancelled if you did in store pickup, im also collecting PS3 at the moment and its been painful getting bargains through eb, they do exist, just hard work as their store inventory levels are terrible.
Try JB, I got a few games I was missing (Mirrors Edge, KZ2 pre owned for $2 each ) Ni No Kuni was also only $10, but it was the greatest hits version…

      • +1

I did delivery because, yeah local store will be useless. My local JB has little used stock. I was going to cash converters, but their stock is rubbish and $5+.

As I said, I'll update everyone on this experiment!

        • I hopw they all come through yeahs and are complete! Yeah CC is hit and miss everything is usually $8+. Gumtree is where I get most my bargains from (bundles working out to $2-5 a game) while I can as that will dry up soon.
I'm waiting for the next drop in eb pre-owned games from $9 down to like $4-5, that will be the time to buy, $9 is still too high.

        • @Shibbyyy:

i gave up collecting from ebgames esp preowned stuff.

no-one from cs hotline can tell you/comfirm if XXX is complete with manual or box slip. it's pretty much a gamble, which eb always wins.

I mean it really stupid really, you end up ordering it have if turn up as a disc only game, you can only refund the game amount, and you lose the postage costs. I stopped bothering with them.

        • @godofpizza: Yeah I've never bought anything from online, in-store only, postage kills any potential deals.
After reading those post sounds like heaps of people having similar problems with online orders so no way I would bother.
Like you say frustration when nobody can tell us if it's complete, so annoying when I rock up an the employee tells me then they can't find the case or manual, but at least I've only driven a couple k's..

        • @Shibbyyy:

this was the case even before they had any sales going.

A phone call to Cs line and all you get is that no-one would bother checking (the warehouse/where ever the games is kept) and providing some feedback about its condition. they should really update their website database to not just have NEW/PREOWNED also mention if it has a manual/coverslip. so there wouldn't have to waste time with 1000+ calls about XXX games. also the music on the hotline really drives me up the wall.

    • Update - First shipments comning in. Out of ~60 items: a delivery of 11 and anther of 2 over the weekend.

  • +2

Beware if you order 10 games from 1 store and say 3 games aren't available they dont have the opinion to cancel the 3 games, they will cancel the whole order.

I "bought" over 50 $1-4 games last week from 5 separate WA stores (spent the time mapping out my best route to grab all games in the most efficient route) and they were all cancelled, but 1 store which called and and said they had 3 of the "new" games with cases and about 5 without.

None were sealed ,they're just returns that they class as new. Unless you live in the country towns you're wasting your time if you place an order.

Only game I can sugget thats in stock most places is GTA4 complete edition for $4.

  • +1

Not going to bother with EB games. Bad service poor stock tracking.

The titles don't interest me and u don't want to waste time via PayPal dispute. No deal

  • +1

Here we go again on all my orders I tried…

"It seems the team couldn't find all your item(s). They searched high and low, but zip.

We will refund the amount listed below automatically. (Please be aware this can take between 1-4 business days).

    Our deepest apologies.

    The EB Games Team."

    • +2

      Me too.

Maybe everyone's orders will be cancelled? :(

If so, I'm sorry to have wasted everyone's time (all my games arrived last time, I thought we'd at least get a few…)

I've put a warning in the deal title and description, for all those people who never read the comments.

  • +1

and already refunded but kept the postage. yay!…

Thanks OP for trying anyyay :)

  • Crossing fingers. Bought 21 games this morning. No email yet to tell me anything went wrong. Order 'processing'.

  • There's some good deals overall, nice. Let's see if my $200 order goes through.

    • haha.. make sure you call up to get your postage refunded

      • Was it supposed to be free postage?

        • I think he means he expects most, or all, of your items to be cancelled and refunded, but that the postage will not be refunded. Since this has happened to many people now.

Hos did you go - did you get your items?

        • @mgowen: Only 7 items got shipped out of 27. I'm starting a PayPal dispute. This is unacceptable. I want full refund.

  • +1

    Just caught them lying again.

Woke up to all of my pickup orders being cancelled, going on to the website it offering to send them to me free of charge if they had them in stock, only to tell me none of them were in stock.

So clicked refund got told 4 days to refund.

Went and looked up every game again to find it listed as in stock, ordered them all again, being slugged another $20 in postage now. Will see if they arrive. Dick move EB

  • eb games is absolutely unbelievable with this bullshit. Ordered 4 collectors editions last night and now this morning they have all been cancelled

  • sounds pretty bullshit.. More like it was a pricing error and they are just backing out of it etc.

  • I'm disappointed :( I tried to buy a $1 game and shipping is $10 lol

  • +4

No stock on most items, a waste of time in my book. Seems to be baiting for delivery fee….

    • +1

This deal might be more of a luck of the draw thing. I received one item, some others were out of stock. Still happy with what i got, they refunded the missing items and the shipping cost, so i got the game i wanted for 4 bucks, + free shipping.

  • my order got cancelled as well
just really bad stock management i guess i doubt it is pricing error
I got the guitar hero live for xbox 360 at $4 last time but that was for pickup.

I did pickup for 2 games this time but got a cancellation
also the 12 other games i wanted delivered. Only thing im grateful is the whole lot got cancelled. I would have been pi$$ed if i paid $10 delivery for one game that was worth $1

  • Cancelled order also

  • +2

Ordered a single copy of Overwatch pre-owned for pickup from my local store today. Saw more than 10 copies when I went in there the day before.

Just got an email to say they couldn't find it and the warehouse is also out of stock, yet they have it still listed online for $30 more than what I paid.

Not happy at all. Will be calling customer service and if I'm not happy with their response will be taking this matter to fair trading.

  • +2

I got 1 out of 21 games. WTF? Refunded me the cost of games only. Slugged me $14.95 postage for 1 game. Will definitely be heading to Fair Trading if I don't get excess postage refunded.

    Massive case of bait advertising.

  • I ordered some cheap Ps3 games a few days ago and I haven't heard anything

    • Same, but I noticed the ETA on delivery changed. Some hope maybe.

  • +3

Ordered 13 items, 13 got cancelled. They refunded all but the postage? What a joke, already shot them an email.

    • +3

haha what how does that happen. Well 6/7 games got cancelled and I was slugged the full postage price. Postage cost more than the game.

  • +2

Another 10 cancelled even though I ordered pretty much immediately after the sale. Absolutely fuming over this. Why advertise the biggest BF sale, tons of $1 games WHEN THERE IS NO STOCK…. Same exact situation as last week

  • +2

I just got 1 book I ordered but the 10 games all canceled. Now they have kept my $16 postage!
    Claim coming up!

  • +1

    And away it goes!

A shipment for your order has just left!

    1 X Drawn to Life
    1 X Lock's Quest
    1 X AFL Mascot Manor
    1 X Cruise Line Tycoon
1 X River King: Mystic Valley

Tracking information for this order may take up to 24 hours from receipt of this email to display.

We ship goods from multiple facilities, so if your order is incomplete, don't worry, the remaining items will be shipped to you soon.

Thanks again for your order. We hope you have heaps of fun!

    The EB Games Team

That's reassuring as they seemed to have missed about 20 items. Fingers crossed I get the rest of them, too.

    • +1

Great deal, by the way OP. Many thanks

  • +1

    Was refunded, minus the postage

  • +1

Ordered 30 $1-4 games and have received a refund for 28 of them. I have not received any refund on the postage. Paying the same postal price for 2 games as I would have for 30 is bs. They should have informed us of out of stock items ordered before sending and charging postage for the rest. Screw the carrots, I'm shopping elsewhere in the future!

Some of the games they told me were out of stock are still listed for sale and in stock on their website…

    • Received the 2 games that were sent and they weren't even brand new as stated! Both are in second hand tatty non-original cases with no cover art or manuals/inserts and one of the discs looks so badly damaged that I'd be surprised if it actually works.

Is a PayPal claim my only option for a full refund?

      • Update:

Through PayPal after making a claim I was offered a refund on all the postage.

  • +3

I ordered 10 games at $1 each, 9 of the games were cancelled, and 1 game shipped. Ended up paying $10 inc shipping for a game I can buy for $5 elsewhere. I went in store to get a full refund and they could only refund me $1 for the game, but could not help with the postage. Full scum. I'll be chasing up a refund on postage via phone.

  • +4

Complete BS. Called up the 13 number as my order got cancelled but shipped a stupid $1 hint guide but im being hit with a $62 postage cost. They will not refund postage and will only giftcard a refund for the $1 product as they processed it via there stores. This is not our problem how they process it as i ordered it from the online website. Will be taking it further, its illegal what they do. False advertising and ripping people off!!

    • Some have had success with Paypal disputes or credit card chargebacks.

    • +2

I've put in a paypal claim.
They get 10 days to respond, I would suggest they're inundated with claims at the moment.
I also got a $1 book sent and they kept $30 of my postage

      CROOKED

    • holy shit 62$ postage cost. i tried calling that 1300 number too listening to the music was too painful.

  • +6

My order was cancelled, aparently they couldn't find the stock. So I went instore in Melbourne CBD and there were my items in stock at 10x the price. Refund so far has only been for items not for postage.

EBGames should be a banned store on ozbargain, specifically for this sort of sale process. They have repeatedly had sales without the stock or simple ability to count what stock they do have.

    • +3

Edit: 21 of 22 items canceled, postage was not refunded and was charged postage as if it was 22 items. Paypal dispute lodged >:(

  • +1

I was charged $38 dollars for postage for 4 items after they cancelled 12 of my items….paypal dispute raised!

  • +4

They've now removed any ability to post on their facebook page due to getting tons of complaints.

Have even inboxed me several times to try and sweep things under the rug.

To make things more fun, a couple of bits from orders arrived today.

All loose discs / carts, and two of the carts are easy to spot fakes.

Paypal has resulted 3x of my claims so far with a full postage refund, now i need refund for games that are disc only / counterfeit.

  • +2

Yep, another PayPal dispute here too.

  • +2

Same as everyone else. Most of my items were canceled. They're probably happier wearing the complaints than the massive postage loss they are making here

  • +3

Ordered 50+ games, only 1 game and several strategy guides sent, the rest cancelled including large skylander bundles and metal gear solid limted edtion bionic arm pack. Originally charge $70 postage for the full order, now with 90% of shipment cancelled, postage is STILL $70!

Same story as everyone else. Will be using the magic O word for this case - Ombudsman.

Eveyone who feels aggrieved should go for Paypal/credit card refunds disputes, ACCC ombudsman intervention. Bombard them with disputes from different sources.

  • +2

Last order of 15+ games cancelled, absolute load of crap. So dodgy that I just received a single old copy of FIFA from that order, but was still slogged the $15 delivery charge. How likely is it that they could only find a single game? Might be tinfoil hat time but definitely seems like they are cancelling orders in waves to try an avoid unhappy customers, when they clearly know that every one will be cancelled anyway. So dissapointed. Ridiculous for such a massive company to advertise it as the biggest sale ever, with the whole selling point being $1 games amongst other deals, then cancel them all anyway. ACCC and postage refund time.
