Legit Australian UGG Boots

I would like to buy some Ugg boots as a gift, but I have noticed that many UGG boot companies sell ones of inferior quality or manufactured overseas. I have heard that UGG Australia is actually American owned and I am not keen on that. So I am unsure what company is best to go with. I would like to meet the following criteria:
* Australian Owned Company
* Made in Australia
* Genuine sheepskin
* Skins tanned in Australia

So far I am leaning towards http://www.originaluggboots.com.au

Any recommendations?

    When my overseas friends ask me to buy "UGG Australia" boots, they think they are made in Australia. I usually end up buying them EMU Australia boots which are Australian made www.emustralia.com.au
    Use the JR's Surf & Ski 20% off Entertainment book voucher, or wait for David Jones 20-25%off sales.

    • Thanks :) Good tip on the entertainment book voucher. I'll have to try and find someone at work who has one.
      Emu look exactly like what I am after :)

    Agreed with the Emu Eggs. I have a pair of waterproof ones and they have been going good for 5 years.

  • UGG /UGG Australia is American registered brand that sell ugg boots which are made in China.
    Are you actually looking for UGG or ugg boots? In other words, are you looking for Nike/Adidas or just sneakers made in specific country?

      Looking for Ugg (the colloquial Australian term for sheepskin boots), not UGG (the brand). As I mentioned, I know that UGG Australia is a crock of ****.

      • OK. UGG Australia spent a lot of money on advertising and promotion of the ugg boots globally, which allowed a lot of local australian business to sell successfully ugg boots with similar design of the boots and even design of brand label on the boot similar to UGG Australia locally and overseas.
        There is nothing wrong with Chinese-made American 'UGG Australia'. Even similar AU icons like RM Williams or Vegemite are not Australian owned and run anymore nowadays.
        So, I would suggest to concentrate on how it was made, rather than where it was made and who owns the business if you are looking for quality product.

          Good points. I am definitely after quality over other things. However, I do not like how UGG Australia market themselves as being Australian when they aren't. I'd prefer to support an Australian company where possible. Also, while RM Williams is owned by LVMH, its boot manufacturing (which is what I am interested in) is still the same and the factory is in Prospect, South Australia as it always has been.

        • @djsweet: Spot on djsweet, the thing of prime importance is local manufacturing with locally sourced materials made with an eye to what a local would think is "required quality".

          Purchased a pair of "Alpine Classic Tall UGG" boots from "Australian UGG Original" based in Sydney a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier with how they're lasting.

  • Mortels.com.au make them locally in the Hunter Valley and are good quality

    Heres a link with their explanation as to why their skins arnt tanned in aus.

  • Take a look at these guys … http://www.bluemountainsboots.com/

  • I got a pair from "Aussie Bush Leather". Not cheap ,but have been good for years and no sign of wearing out. Google them.

  • The tradename UGG is protected worldwide except in Australia. That basically means that anyone can sell 'UGG' boots in Australia, but elsewhere in the world they have to be part of the "UGG' brand (part of Deckers, based in the USA.
    Ironically the original UGG USA brand was formed by Brian Smith an Australian surfer who relocated to California.
