Ben Cousins just lost his shit reading that title :)

    • +33

I think he'd actually get more excited by a "free bag of ice with every Coke sold" promotion, but close!

      • Joel Monaghan gets excited by just a lick of peanut butter!

    • +3

Todd Carney is indifferent. The Bubbler is always Free.

    • Gold!!!

Comment of the year. Well done sir. I did lose my shit reading this

Funny that he was in the news again like a day or 2 after posting this comment :)

They should rename the campaign to "Diabetes for Designated Drivers"

    • free high sugar levels which leads to diabetes?, count me in!

    • +8

Diabetes can cause blurred vision. +1 coke.

      • +1

So can using your hand lol

        • On the up size, caffeine can make you more alert so it balances

    • +10

      There's always bloody one….

      • That time of the month?

    • or "Complimentary Coke for Car Chauffeurs"

    • +6

Jeez, you're harsh surely "Free Diabetes for Designated Drivers" is fairer..

    • +9

There is no direct link between Coca-Cola and Diabetes. Obesity and poor lifestyle choices can lead to Type 2 diabetes, but a free Coca Cola would not lead to diabetes for someone with a healthy lifestyle.

So if you think that this free Coca Cola would lead to getting diabetes, perhaps you should re-evaluate your own lifestyle (cut back on the KFC) so that this free Coca Cola wouldn't tip your fragile body over the edge.

    • Coke zero

      • -1

and Diet Coke, but it tastes terrible.

  • +7

"at more than 120 venues across Australia". Four venues in Perth, the rest in NSW and QLD. :/

    • Perth where's that,
      Lancaster?

  • +20

Australian wide - excluding Victoria, South Australia, ACT and NT according to the map.

    • +3

They probably will get Pepsi :)

    • And Tassie! :(

      • +6

        Where?! :)

    • +1

Not S.A. - Our evil wind turbines will affect the taste and crash the line at factory it came from.

    • Thanks for including ACT (and excluding Tassie) but we (neither of us) need Coke to drive across our respective jurisdictions because they're too small (or have no cops)

  • Not available in Vic but a good deal

    • +2

Now I know how TAS feels 99% of the posts that are placed on OzB.

      • +4

Don't forget Darwin. It's not really a state, but people still live there so we should pay some respect. Not much. But some.

        • +1

Oh dear I shamefully mistook NT for Darwin. Respect y'all.

  • +2

Cool promotion. Hope it means some more people get home safe :)

  • +1

coke probably sell most the alcohol at the venues

  • -2

nice. I have have one just down the road. FREE drinks everyday. Wonder if i can order energy drinks

  • Was at one of the venues last Friday night. Ordered a Coke as wasn't drinking. Didn't get offered this promo :(

    • +1

i bet you didn't introduce yourself..

next time when you approach a bar running the promo, say hello my name is abc can you please give me a coke for free and it should work

      • Didn't know about the promo until it was posted here :)

  • +1

    Post Mix 💩

    • Just byo bourbon in a flask,
that should help wash it down

  • "Venue list in link - Australian wide"
    Should probably be updated.

Maybe "target-market wide" or "most-bang-for-the-exploitative-promotional-buck wide" or "we-don't-actually-care-about-fatalities-on-the-road-it's-just-cynical-marketing wide".
    Cynical? Yes.
    With good cause? Yes.

    • Yeah, between this and those damn new wings at hospitals named after rich people, I don't know what's more abhorrent

    • Notice a lot of the venues are part of ALH Group (owned by the "fresh food people").

  • Free coke for Uber drivers.

    • Free breath mint for taxi drivers

    • Was just thinking this.. so we just gotta go into the venue tho.. and chill :)

  • Nothing in Adelaide!
    Do we not count!

    • +4

Apparently they're not selling it by the barrel.

      • Too soon.

  • +1

This better cover CC-owned sparkling water such as Mount Franklin LS or Glaceau Smartwater Sparkling (silly name, but I digress) which I can throw a lime or lemon into. Otherwise, what's the point? Given how shitty one feels after a soft drink, only masochists would drink more than one glass of soft drink willingly.

  • +1

This will make my rum and coke cheaper

    • Have rum, will travel

  • All of you that are complaining. STOP! This is a nice idea. You really sound unintelligent bagging something that is meant to "thank" the designated driver and help save lives

    • +4

OzBargain: Where free is too expensive

    • +1

You really sound like an annoying nag.

    • Don't you get how the internet works
We're helping by joking and bagging and generally stirring up interest in an otherwise boring but slightly good hearted push for free sugar water; to mix with my bottle of rum I snuck in down my pants!
You may laugh out loud, I will start
      Ha.. ha….

  • +2

Venue knew nothing about the deal. Coco Cola fail

    • +1

      NO COKE FOR YOU!

    • This is like McDonald's and Student Edge. I have to explain the deal to them 90% of the time and sometimes they refuse to acknowledge it.

      • even worse when they have a poster about the deal and they still act dumb

  • Just had to read that twice, got a bit excited there

  • I need coke for my scotch

  • +1

But why when surely water is free'er? On both your body and the bar?

  • Jokes aside, I'm glad they're doing this.

    • -1

+1 I will sleep better knowing that the roadside trees are than much safer from being ringbarked by a p plater
You see when they peal the Ford/Holden off all the bark comes with
Funny how no matter how far you cut the trees back, one always jumps out when you least expect?!?same with cliff faces, that wasn't there before…

  • How long for the promo? It says all summer but I don't think so.

  • +10

They say these things but it's for positive press only, not because they care.

I don't drink but I am happy to socialise with my friends and colleagues, of course. We were at a pub which promoted this "free soft drinks for the designated driver" and as that was me I told the bar staff.

They very reluctantly handed me the crappiest fluro paper wrist band, took a copy of my driver's license, and handed me a small glass all while scowling and grumbling.

When I came back later for another drink they made me wait until others, out of turn, were served and got me to show my license again and scowled and all that.

It was truly all a pain in the arse and it was so very clear the staff were not on board in any way and the whole promotion was just for the sake of pretending to support safe transport for patrons.

    • -1

Were you pretending to support safe transport for patrons?

      • +3

No, I was not pretending. I was there with a couple of friends and I was driving them home.

Your question seems a little perverse.

        • Just checking that you weren't exploiting a positive press promotion. Good for you - you should do it again! Their attitude makes me think they aren't being reimbursed by Coca-Cola for the free drinks. Shame.

        • +1

I was pleased to see the promotion. I thought it terrific to encourage non-drinking drivers be there for their friends.

I don't know if they are reimbursed or not, but I can definitely state the bar staff only begrudgingly participated and there were certainly no schooners of Coke on offer, only the tiniest glass they could find.

        • -2

@davidmwilliams: I know what you mean, the barman rubbed his balls in the glass right infront of me before poring me a drink,
I begrudgingly drank it, but only because it was free
I shouldn't have followed that guy with the leather chaps into a bar anyway

  • Staff at Albion Place Hotel had no idea about it and therefore refused to give me drinks.
Of course this happened after the bar staff didn't hear me properly and had already dispensed the drink and demanded $4.
