For whatever it's worth, I was once stuck with trying to sell about 20 crates of this stuff. From all accounts, it's very high-quality insulation, but the time it's taking to sell this is probably burning holes in pockets of the warehouses which is why it's so cheap

  • Good timing. Was looking to insulate my colorbond shed.
I was looking for a bit of noise blocking, so I assume the acoustic partition is the way to go?

Sounds like it, "High Density (17kg/m³, 20kg/m³ and 27kg/m³) sound absorbing performance levels."
      More info here

      • Cheers. I wasnt sure because the other one here "DriTherm" seems like it is better suited for a shed (albeit they mention a brick one), because it has a moisture rating or something like that.

Edit - so for the acoustic it reads, "Earthwool Internal wall batts reduce transmission from room to room or office to office. A comprehensive range of tested and warranted acoustic wall systems using Earthwool can be found at www.knaufplasterboard.com.au."
Perhaps not suited to a shed.

    • How much "noise blocking"? and from what to where?

In general, heavier batts (denser and thicker) are better but there is a law of diminishing returns.

Any of these suitable for using in ceiling over the top of existing insulation? Would be keen to try and reduce the heat getting into our 40 year old home but seems like a lot of not much fun work if all the existing insulation needs to be removed first.

    • I did that. I had some older batts between the joists that had been flattened a bit (my cats used to get up there and have a right old time). I just put a second layer across the joists, so it's just a sea of insulation. So now there's about R7 up there. The only drawback is it's hard to move around if you ever need to go up there.

  • installed something similar in the gyprock cavity walls of the upstairs bedrooms. made a huge difference. if i was building i'd go with the sound board as well to get about as good noise insulation as a brick wall.

      …Item 3 listed in OP

  • These stuff are really itchy and especially if you are skin sensitive. The dust that falls from them can cause a bit of issues. Plan ahead before putting them in and seal them well from people. Plz be careful when handling.

  • Next to no stock anywhere, apparently this is a promotional item, not an oversupply. Could not find any on northside of brisbane.

Okay, so for those in Vic, let me save you the trouble

    Epping - Reported:18 Actual stock: 0
Waurn Ponds (geelong) - Reported: 14 Actual: 3
    Bayswater - Reported:12 Actual: 0
Dandenong - Reported:9 Actual:0 (Brittany says to stop calling)
    Croyden - Reported:7 Actual:0
    Mentone - Reported:5 actual:0

As you can see, there is next to no stock, for melbourne at least. Not that surprising, it's a damn good price. Took me 2 hours to find that out :/

  • No stock Nowra. Picked up the last pack of insulation today. They were showing 10 however only had one in stock (Earthwool R-1.5 75 x 600mm 30.24m2 Wall Insulation Batts - 42 Pack). Thx to the poster.

Thanks Op, I may be a bit late on these but I'll hit my local up for the acoustic insulation, I've been looking for acoustic insulation to stuff my theatre room riser with, and also to make some panels :)

    • Call them up before you go in if you don't live close, I'd say most stores are sold out by now. Good luck :)

      • Thanks mate I'm about 10 minutes away on the way home from work but I'll give them a call first! :)
