SADLEY NOTE -LIMIT OF 1 PER CUSTOMER.

You could use this to get over $300 Amex purchase for $100 back.

Own one of these. They work well provided you are not moving and I mean really not moving: you cannot hold the phone, it has to be on a stationary surface. If the phone is moving it's close to useless because you get immediate picture break up.

Don't know who negged you. Thanks for the warning. I upvoted.

      BUYER BEWARE

I used to own (took it back) one of these and I wouldn't recommend it. Reception sucks and on the rare occasion when you do get reception, the audio and video are out of sync. Wouldn't recommend even if they gave it to me for free, don't waste your time.

I have one of these and it works really well on my moto g 3rd gen. found all the stations . you can even use it as a PVR. and record shows. I am line of sight with the television towers in Brisbane

        • yeah I've been able to use it on Ipswich line trains in Brisbane as most of the journey has line of sight to Mt Coot Tha. I do agree that unless you've got line of sight to the tower then you actually need to stay still to get a good signal.

      • I got Channel 31 for about 2m before it cut out. I was in Hawthorn.

        Great Gimmick, Terrible Device.

    • Could always use freetv app, it's free?

That review is pretty spot on (but remember it does work when it's not moving at all ;)

  • Hardware? App? or ANTENNA issue. Will D-link update app? as it seems the unit is ?= sound, and as with mouse ears extended cable could be fun. If works could save data on live TV. Anyhow makes a good Christmas stocking filler. Secret Santa gift on original price Lol. now how to buy more than one

The OP already mentioned that in the description.

They work fine. If the app won't work with your device, try this instead. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.padtv

The poor signal issues are more to do with the lousy DVB broadcast coverage standards we have in Australia, than any shortfall with the device. Yes you'll need a proper antenna unless you're very close to a transmitter and yes you will have to avoid movement.

I didn't even know these existed, don't see it getting much use but for $15 why not.

  • Great stuff. I've been eyeing these for a couple of months.

Do not waste your money, bought one and i need to plug it in to a proper antenna to get reception, i have a car antenna that I stick on the roof and that doesn't even work in open spaces. The only use for this is to check if your tv tuner is stuffed maybe. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$ like i did

  • this looks handy for my Android TV box (with no actual TV tuner). $15, worth a shot

    • Yes if you can get the driver working, I brought last time and at that point could not get a working driver although there is an Italian guy who works on them

  • grabbed 2x last time for secret santa gifts…havnt used one yet so hopefully they work.

  • Is this possible to use this one to make a Philip 32" screen a TV?

    • Not unless you use your mobile phone which is then somehow linked to the screen, even then I doubt it would work well.

If you have a set-top box (i.e. a digital TV tuner), it is much easier to use that to turn your monitor into a TV. Usually set-top boxes work fine with monitors, but two tricks:

      • You'll need an appropriate lead, either HDMI-HDMI or HDMI-DVI, depending on what socket your monitor has
      • Usually monitors can't handle the slow horizontal sync speed for a TV signal, but if you set your set-top box to output a "progressive" signal (720p or 1080p), monitors are usually happy with that. Note that you won't be able to see the menus on your set-top box until this setting is correct, so you'll have to connect the set-top box to a standard TV first to make this setting.

And don't forget that most monitors don't have speakers, so you'll also need a set of external powered speakers.

I did this myself, using the monitor that my PC is connected to. It's fortunate that most monitors have two inputs. Sometimes I listen to the TV while web browsing, and if the program sounds interesting, I press the "input select" button on the monitor to watch the TV. During advertisements I flip back to web browsing. My monitor is a bit slow to change inputs though, takes 2-3 seconds.

  • Bought one on ebay for $40 2 weeks ago. Grr. Works well enough for me. Gets all channels. Have to move it around to find a sweet spot but once its there and stationary its awesome. Also took me a week to realise you swipe left and right for channels and swipe up and down for volume. I kept going into menus to do that. Doh. Its worth a gamble for $15. Use mine to watch the cricket at my work desk with no wifi needed. Does the job and im happy enough paying $40

    • Ignore comment, you fixed it

    • I use it for the same reasons and I'm happy with it.

    Melbourne - no stock anywhere.

    • HN product website says 15 but when checking out it says 48. So sick of HN's poor systems. I've bought and paid for two things in the past only to have them email and say "sorry, out of stock".

Does this pick up the new Mpeg4 Abc HD channel?

I was looking at a DVB-T2 version of these on eBay, assume this is just DVB-T? And I believe the new HD channels require DVB-T2?

Also, anyone used a better aerial like this?

  • I know this device is meant for the Android phone but wanted to share my experience using MS phones…so a bit OT here.

I have been using AussieFTW! app to watch FTA TV via streaming…no lag and is quite good…I use my mobile 4G data with it sometimes and works well too….

  • Yeah I got one of these last time.
For anyone on the fence… don't bother.

    Extremely limited usage.

Considering you can get virtually all of the FTA channels online nowadays, this has very limited use seeing as you have to be completely stationary to use it and you can't use it out bush camping or anywhere.

Good idea in theory, completely useless for the most part in practice.

    • Agreed, and forgot to earlier that this thing gets really hot!

Sorry to rain on your parade OP, just wanted to inform people beforehand

All good. I've revoked my upvote :P

  • What would this be like for use on public transport around Sydney?

    • Apparently you shouldn't move while using it so provided that it is gridlocked in Sydney when using it it will be fine

      • +2

        Thanks, should work seamlessly then.

        • As on Brisrail. With their attention to commuter care these should come free with each go card purchased.

  • I have the "Elgato EyeTV W Wirelss Mobile TV Tuner" that I bought over a year ago, it works perfectly when connected to the outdoor antenna and this one is even better, you don't have to plug it to your phone or tablet at all. So great for use outside under the pergola or in the garden, next to the swimming pool, but the small antenna that comes with it is not really effective and I guess it would be the same for the DLink one.

  • Just checked online and it's listed as "Clearance" at $48!!! - A great bargain I'd say (note: sarcasm)

  • just when i decided to purchase, expired.

    • Boo urns! Don't worry, it'll be on special next month
