FREE 3 Month NBN Speed Upgrade (Tier Upgrade) @ Skymesh (Current Customers)

560

I'm a long-term (and happy) NBN Skymesh customer.

Skymesh is a very popular NBN Carrier on OzBargain - located in Brisbane, they are pretty much 100% Australian with AU Call Centre.

As many of us here are sick of these 'New customer only' deals that frequent, I'd thought I'd share a great deal available to all current Skymesh customers!

If wanting to commence with Skymesh, I'd suggest this as a bargaining point.

Taken from the email I received:

We're boosting your broadband speeds. Happy Christmas from SkyMesh!

Whatever your New Year resolutions will be, make faster broadband one of them!
We're boosting your broadband speed to the next fastest speed tier, for three months, at no extra charge to you.

This is our way of saying thank you for helping SkyMesh become one of Australia's leading nbn™ service providers.

We've begun the process of boosting your speeds over the weekend so you may have already noticed the faster speeds.

Once the three months have ended you'll revert back to your original speed tier unless you choose to upgrade permanently to the faster speed tier via your My SkyMesh account. For now, just sit back and enjoy the faster speeds, no action is required and we'll email you closer to the time as a reminder.

We hope you enjoy your speed boost. From all of us to you, your family and friends, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

From a current customer - thanks Skymesh!

  • Damn, if only 100/100 was available in my area!

  • How do you check if the speed's been boosted? Also I think it's faster speed (next tier) but same download limit. They are probably feeling the pressure from My Republic.

    • -1

I very much doubt they are feeling the pressure from MyRepublic. People choose SkyMesh for performance. MyRepublic offer unlimited plans which means either they are loosing money or significant congestion during peak times.

      • +5

Nice speculating. I'm on myrepublic and haven't had any speed issues during peak times. On NBN. Flawless service so far.

        • +7

If congestion doesn't exist on the MyRepublic network, then they are almost certainly selling at a loss based on NBNCo Wholesale Pricing of AVC: $34 and CVC: $17.50/Mbps and ex GST price of $54.54.

          • 1:100 Contention = $34 (AVC) + $17.50 CVC = $51.50
          • 1:50 Contention = $34 (AVC) + $35.00 CVC = $69.00
          • 1:20 Contention = $34 (AVC) + $87.50 CVC = $121.50

These numbers are just the payments to NBNCo. On top of these you need to add the other cost of running an RSP:

          • backhaul from the PoI to the MyRepublic network
          • backhaul from the MyRepublic network to rest of internet
          • network infrastructure
          • back end office (support, sales, billing, etc.)
          • profit (aka return on investment (ROI)).
        • +3

You should check the Whirlpool thread, people dropping to 2mbps during peak times in some areas. It's just a matter of time to be honest.

        • @XeKToReX: yeah it's absolutely impossible for them to provide a good grade of service for download speeds

        • +1

I'm on my Republic and have had ~1Mbps for the last week.

        • @XeKToReX: 850pm in Sydney metro area. Skymesh FTTP 25/5. Test result: 2.9mbps download 2.27mbps upload.

During non-peak I do get around 20mbps download.

        • +1

@delfredo: Log a fault, that's not typical of SkyMesh at all..

9:10PM Melb suburbs: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5892744960 - It's like this at all times.

        • @borgsta:

Been on MR since the beginning of December. 100/40 FTTN. Slowest speed during peak has been 89/31

This is more of an announcement more than anything, it belongs in the forums.

    • +1

This post back in November disagrees https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277705

      • Sorry what? Did you link to the wrong post?

That bargain is offering free 4 months for Google Play Music and Youtube Red…

        1. You don't automatically receive that bargain, you have to select it

        2. Its not restricted to existing customers who automatically get it anyway…

        • I agree that it is automatic, but this Skymesh offer is also somewhat of a 'freebie' + it is a decent upgrade rather than an announcement. Save up those scary negs mate, I'll let the mods decide.

        • +5

          @rawm:

Its an announcement that its a temporary 3 month upgrade to entice people to stay upgraded.

Not only is it an announcement its basically an advertisement.

There is no purpose for it being here as new customers can't take advantage of it and all skymesh customers would be receiving the email.

        • @samfisher5986:

Agreed - this is a PR exercise.

  • SkyMesh doesn't serve my new house :(

  • Good way to see what your sync speed might be on a higher tier!
When are you coming to 6CAN?

    • I was going to call you out for being wrong but then I realised people might be on Fibre to the node… :(

    • I agree, this is the perfect way to decide if I should upgrade to a better Skymesh plan - all this talk of MyRepublic 100/40 has me wondering if I would notice the speed difference with my typical usage.

  • Good to see a nice deal for existing customers. I would be on skymesh if they were active in Tasmania, really like the cut off their jib.

  • With 82% of Fixed NBN Customers on 25/5Mbps or slower, the AVC price difference to the next speed tier is only $3/month.

I'd be more excited if SkyMesh announced 1Gbps plans. NBNCo made these available at wholesale level in December 2013, but the fastest plan available is 100Mbps.

    • -1

If you are willing to pay the prices that it costs for Skymesh to deliver 1GBps plans, I am sure they will be happy to oblige..

      • +1

Any suggestion on what the price for a 1Gbps plan would be? The first RSP to offer 1Gbps will capture the market and make it difficult for other players.

I find it curious that SkyMesh are offering 100/100Mbps which doesn't exist as a speed tier sold by NBNCo. It appears to be a 250/100mbps plan that has had the download speed capped.

        • Because of NBN's CVC pricing model, at $17.50 per Mbps, having to deliver a 1GBps plan could end up being very costly.

        • Business plans can be 100/100, they might be reselling then as consumer.

        • +1

@noz: Am I missing something? No one charges $170 for 100Mbps pls that I know of.

        • @StickMan: Two factors will be at play:

          • Very few customers on 1Gbps plans means it is harder to deliver stable performance, so you need to have lower contention ratios (1:50 = $350 in CVC; 1:20 = $875).
          • If you are paying a significnat premium for a 1Gbps plan then you expect it to be fast all the time.
        • @StickMan:
The reason they don't is because of contention ratios and quotas.
You mentioned $170. I think you actually mean $1750. That's how much a 1:1 100Mbps connection costs for CVC. And that's ex. GST. Companies that offer unlimited 100Mbps for cheap (such as MyRepublic) are hoping like hell that very few people use too much bandwidth.
With 1Gbps, as matthew42 mentioned, people will expect blazing fast performance and huge quotas, which will be very expensive.

        • @noz: Is that a per month cost? So you're saying pretty much that people expect us and twenty others to share 100Mbps (yeah I made boo boo with the $170), instead of all twenty of us having 100Mbps at the same time?

        • @StickMan:
Yes, that's a per month cost.
          Having 20 people share 100Mbps .. that's probably a good scenario! I heard 50:1 is more realistic.

      • +1

There isn't a one gigabyte (GB) per second plan. I think you mean gigabit (Gb).

        • -3

Thanks for your positive contribution to the convo <sarcasm> … even if you are correct :)

  • Just sent them an email to lower my speed tier to 50Mbps xD

    • I'm on 100/40 - so whats the deal there? Do I get upgraded to 100/100 for 3 months?

      • Same here.

I didn't get an email about a speed boost. Do we get nothing?

        • Boo finally got a reply saying it's only available for people 50Mbps and under on the 16/12/17.
Any plans altered after that won't be entitled to the free upgrade… There goes my $15 savings :(

      • Nothing currently. Apparently NBN has done this not the ISP.

  • Whirlpool comment is that NBN has created the offer not the ISP. So quite likely all NBN customers will be getting this upgrade over the week.
I guess NBN is hoping people get attached to better speeds and then cant stand to go backwards when the offer ends?

100/40 confirmed to get no upgrade to 100/100

    • If NBNCo were smart they would remove the speed tiers and profit from the higher CVC revenue. Imagine the data from all the 4K Netflix streams.

      • +3

        If NBNCo were smart …..

  • Was this an email or is it on their website?

    • Email alert to all Skymesh customers.

      • +1

        I didn't receive it, I guess that's because I'm already on 100/40, obviously doesn't include 100/100. :-(

      • Must be all customers not on 100/40 plans…

  • -4

MyRepublic must be taking a few of their customers away. They had me interested until I read the words "Happy Christmas" I hope you have a "Happy Christmas" Skymesh, as I will always be having a "Merry Christmas"

    • +1

      You're an arse. Grow up.

  • +3

$9 cost to resellers per person, over a 24mo standard term of $2K, is a drop in the bucket. The psychological effect on the customer having 'fresh and speedy' plan for 3mo the reverting to 'slow and crusty' will ensure a decent uptake of speed upgrade after offer ends.

NBNCo is just a seething cesspool of shit isn't it.

    • Look at who is running NBNCo, and his working history. Then look at who appointed him. And that explains everything about the way the NBN is currently run.

      • +1

The NBNCo train wreck started on day 1. You only need to read 2010 Corporate Plan to see the disconnect between promises and what was being planned.

  • Just had NBN fttp installed yesterday and am enjoying 100/40 with actual speeds at 5pm measured of 95mbps down/35mbps up with 5ms ping :)

Very happy with Skymesh so far, big contrast to the "unlimited" providers that can't get close to advertised speeds during peak usage periods!

  • I am a very happy Skymesh customer and can confirm my Tier has been upgraded. Speedtest came up with 47MBPS Down and 19MBPS Up last night when I checked. I am on 25/5 plan so it is a nice upgrade even though only for 3 months.

  • I like Skymesh too but I'm not sure that "they are pretty much 100% Australian" these days. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2552785.
