How to Manage old Synced Photos on iPhone/iPad with No more original PC/iTunes

Hi iOS gurus,

did hours of researching but got nothing,

i need help with an iphone & ipad full of photos. space is now limited and i need to delete some of them.

problem is, the photos cant be deleted from the device - bin icon is grayed out (from google i found that it is because they have been synced from itunes previously), not taken by the device camera.

so now how can i delete some of them? i dont have the original photos backup anymore, and i think the laptop with the itunes was gone long time ago.

Can i just export them somehow to my laptop (windows), delete some, and then re-create new library photos into itunes and then sync back?
edit: i tried to plug in the iphone to my laptop, and using windows explorer i cant see those old photos, only the recent ones taken by the camera i can see.

also about mp3. i have installed itunes, point a mp3 folder on my drive, then sync them to the iphone. the songs are now in my iphne. good.
now, can i uninstall the itunes? i dont like itunes.
would i be able to delete the songs from iphone later? (assuming i dont need to add new songs).

i prefer not to spend $ on 3rd party apps.
really pulling my hair about itunes and syncing thingies..

thanks guys (and girls).

regards,

    ifunbox or itools.

for photos you can also install google photos and cloud sync them to google photos(inthe web) and then download them back.

    • heard about ifunbox. will that works with unJB phone? i prefer not to jailbreak it.

hmm that google photo options is good but i have 1000+ so could be a while to upload and download. prefer old fashion offline way, but will keep it as the last option

dont need to jailbreak, some functioanily maybe limited in later IOS.

  • I thought you can always plug iPhone to PC and download photos.
Musics on the other hand is really pain to sync without iTunes.

    • thought so too, but you can only see them if they were taken via device camera.
photos that came in via itune synced process, cant be seen or deleted from device.
you supposed to connect iphone to itunes, select from your photo library which one you dont want, and re-sync - this is how you delete.

my problem is i dont have that "photo library" anymore on my laptop.

  • thats the thing about IOS, when it works its ok, but when things go wrong I've no idea what to do :( things like photo gallery and camera roll - some photo's sync, some don't. I plugged into USB and imported then deleted photo's, but all the storage is still being taken up. so much stuff going on in the background that I'm never really confident its all there. using an android on the other hand I synced it with dropbox and photos would appear instantly. or plug it in and browse to dcim and you just know you've got it all.

dont get me started on itunes reorganising my server :P

syaing that - I use an iphone and ipad (my old android devices worked back in the day, but the nexus 7 is soooo slow). discounting the fact that my ipad cost 8x the price…………

    • yeah i also wanted to "reformat" my ipad - but no point to do backup and then restore, im afraid it will just restore back all the junk and dump.

i wish i can export all the photos and music to laptop temporarily, restore ipad to factory setting, and put back (some) photos, music, and re install all apps.

  • i tried using the icloud site, downloaded the photos, deleted them….then I had duplicates…..on some of them
its as if the only way around it is to buy more space………………….

why I cant treat it as a usb drive and be done with it is beyond me!

    • going to try ifunbox. yeah welcome to the apple world.

  • Other things to try:
. Wireless photo transfer (such as "Simple Transfer"). Works for photos taken by camera, but not sure about synced photo.
. Try to upload the photos to cloud storage (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc) and download from there.

    • thanks will consider it, but i have 1000+ photos with slow tpg adsl+ upload speed.

  • well I tried ifunbox

deleted 0 photos, as of limitation of ios 8.3 and above, 310 photos can not be deleted

Thats a "feature" I can live without!

  • Try program called iPhone Backup Extractor. Can get anything off.

Have saved data for so many friends, while they were migrating to Android (before Samsung's Smart Switch).

Back up all your data as your like - you choose! (pics, music, call logs, SMS etc in all in a couple of clicks).

Then - in your case - I'd wipe your phone (factory reset) and update it, because something sounds awry.

Else back it all up to the cloud as already suggested!

    Good luck!
