  • I've got one at work loved it, so I bought one for home second hand and it's great too. They are useless for lounging in though, you have to sit upright.

  • Got one too a few years ago after experiencing one at a conference. Found a second hand one on Gumtree for $400 which made it much more palatable. Because of their great quality, after a quick wipe down it feels brand new.

  • +2

I sat on one of these for 6 months, working long hours and could never quite find the right position or tightness of the base and back support. Ended up having severe sciatica and a back operation. When I got back to work, I found a $40 rigid, unadjustable plastic chair was much better for my back. I think everyone's body shape and size is different, best to give this a try before buying.

  • My ass just said not worthy, unless I can also shite on this thing comfortably.

    • +1

      You could probably modify it?

  • +3

Just wanted to post my experience with my Herman Miller Aeron chair. Have had the chair for over 8 years. Absolutely love the chair and comfort it provides, no issues with hydraulics in all this time.

The seat portion developed a crack at the back which caused it to lift up when I was sitting. I contacted Living Edge and sent some photos of the problem, which they then forwarded onto the US. Within a month and under warranty the new replacement seat had arrived from the US and Living Edge sent someone to my home and fixed it on the spot for an 8 year old chair.

Love the chair and love the service and warranty that comes with it.

  • +2

maybe one day when i have a bit more moolah to dish out

in the meantime still waiting on bargain on the buro metro task chair

  • Owned one of these. It was ok IMO. I preferred the Humanscale Freedom chair, headrest v comfy on that chair

  • +1

As others have said… when looking in this price bracket it is worth shopping around and trying out different chairs. I tried the Aeron chair, and while it was a nice chair, I found one that was even more comfortable, this being the Steelcase Gesture https://www.steelcase.com/products/office-chairs/gesture/ - It cost me ~$900 a year or so ago.

    • Heard good things about steelcase chairs.

    • where do you buy steelcase chairs?

      • There's no online store for aussies. It's stupid. They are used to selling to big businesses in bulk. You can request a quote from your nearest Steelcase location and then put an order through that way.

        • which means i have to pay RRP as well right? :S

  • Apparently there is a new aeron model coming out?? I thought this was a classic design.

    • They improved the lumbar support from v1 to v2 in recent years. Could be similar improvements

      • I didn't know that. I've wanted one of these for ages. Do most people go with or without arms? My current office chair does not have arms but it is rubbish.

        • +1

I've got this chair & I use the arms all the time. They're height adjustable & can pivot out or in for typing

        • @backslashio:

Use the arms on mine as well.

  • I wish this was tax deductible because I would buy one in a snap.

    • +3

You do need a chair and desk to fill out your tax return no?

      • I need it for that and much more.

    • +2

If you are using it in your home/office to generate income it is deductible.
Although not sure if it can be immediately depreciated.

      • I need it for my studies. At the minute as soon as I sit in my current chair I get pins and needles in my butt, a sore back and I want to sleep like all the time. I swear a new one is definitely the answer. I work part time with children and study full time.

        • -4

"I work part time with children and study full time."

          Thanks for info…

        • +1

The wanting to sleep all the time isn't the chair most likely. Does the area it's in have adequate airflow? Perhaps CO2 is building up which will cause you to feel tired.

    • +1

It is if you work at home.

  • -5

Ikea Markus for $200 or so odd beats this for comfort tbh

    • I was thinking the same thing.
I can't comment on the Aeron but the IKEA Markus is the most comfortable chair I've ever sat on!

    • Huh? It has height adjustments and nothing else.

      • Just size wise for me it's a perfect fit as it has a long back and is very comfy when I compared to an aeron. I'm sure the aeron would suit some people more but for me the markus in cloth was a great everyday deal when I was looking for a computer chair.

  • +2

I bought one about 4-5 years ago. It has to be my favourite purchase of all time. I would be more upset if someone stole my Aeron than if someone stole my TV

    • After 4-5 years your aeron would still be worth heaps but your tv would be obsolete

      • Unless it's a Panasonic plasma.

  • In the past I always had problems with chairs hurting my back or being uncomfortable. 3 years ago I discovered the Herman Miller aeron and bought one. Best thing I ever bought. I can sit at this for 12+ hours a day and never feel any pain or discomfort. I love this chair.

  • +1

Spend more on to the stuff you use the most makes perfect sense, after all, you are getting benefit all the time.

With that in mind, then justfy the price on individual conditions.

  • +1
    • +2

thanks buddy, just saved myself $1000

    • what the??? someone either has money to burn or they don't know what it is & how much its worth second hand (which is at least $500)

      • +1

could it be a knock off…

        • It's very possible. Waiting for a WA oz-bargainer to buy and report back.

        • If you bought it in person you could easily check the weight of it (which is about 30kg). Looks like the original model before they improved the lumbar so its probably ~10 years old or more

        • Im in Palmyra to. Might give them a call.

        • @backslashio: Yep that's definitely the original model. The person selling it probably doesn't know its worth.

        • @slamdunka:

          watch out for isis

    • Sold already some OzB bought I reckon.

    • Im wondering if it really was?

  • +12

I have had one for 6 years now. Still in perfection condition. Why spend a thousand dollars you say?

    • Your health. Cheap chairs will cause you back pain eventually. When that happens you will be happy to spend whatever to fix it. These are designed with ergonomics in mind to promote sitting well.

    • Comfort. I find this chair very comfortable. The mesh is taut but with a little give that feels more comfortable than a cushion to me. The mesh is also more durable and will outlast a cushion which will get flat. The chair tension allows me to lean back and slightly rock when I want comfort but as I sit up it will lean up and support my lower back. The mesh also prevents sweat build up. There are lots of customizations to tailor it to your body.

    • Build quality. I believe it is a 10 year warranty. Prior to this chair I bought from office works. Every 2 years I would have to replace them as the padding would be worn. The chairs were about $150 each * 10 years / 2 year replacement = $750. While this chair is still more expensive the gap is not quite as big as what it seems.

    • Initially the chair seems expensive because people are used to cheap $150 chairs. $1000 is not much when you compare to say something similar like a mattress.

    • The only con is that I have stubbed my toes on the metal castors many times - it is solid metal

    • -1

      Why the down vote?

      • +1

Wasnt me, but maybe the replace chair every 2 years part.

  • +6

I thought this deal got upvoted as a joke, but it seems when it comes to office chairs, OzBargainers are no tightarses. :p

  • +14

Holy shit! I thought that chair was expensive till I checked out the rest of that site. Everything on that website is massively overpriced!

They're charging $350 for a shopping bag…a god damn reusable Aldi shopping bag - https://livingedge.com.au/products/amsterdam-bag-in-black-sa…

    $885 for a normal looking lamp - https://livingedge.com.au/products/waldorf-wall-small

$6,500 for a a small circular (1m diameter) "dining" table and looks terrible to boot - https://livingedge.com.au/products/noguchi-dining-table

    A stool for $1,100. I can make this myself for $10 - https://livingedge.com.au/products/dc03-langley-stool-side-t…

The only item on that store that's priced suitably is this - https://livingedge.com.au/products/1000-gift-certificate

Please tell me this is a joke…or is this where rich people go to brag?

    • There's a sucker born every minute.

      Great chair though :)
Alas, my Buro Metros suit my ass perfectly.

    • I get that designer clothes or furniture is expensive, but seriosuly, those prices are obscene. At least Matt Blatt or Milan Direct's prices aren't out of this world, for the almost identical replica.

    • Agreed most things on this site are overpriced. However, I did sit on this lounge: https://livingedge.com.au/products/prime-time-corner-sofa as well as other Walter Knoll sofas.

It was hands down, by far the most comfortable lounge I've sat in. This was after weeks of couch shopping. Nothing was remotely close. Couldn't do the $20,000 price tag though.

Ended up buying a set from Lounge Lovers which is pretty comfortable but sometimes dream of the Walter Knoll.

    • I think "art" / "fashion" gets involved. They ain't model t fords.

    • +1

It's true, everything is expensive. But mostly because they are original designs, and not k-mart knock-offs. We are paying the designer for the thought that went into creating the product. Design is never cheap.

Also, when buying 'original' stuff, you'd probably (I say that warily) get the best materials in the build too, because that's what designers want, they want their products to last.

Getting a knock-off will have some compromise somewhere, whether materials, etc. Sure, there are some savings to be made if labour is offshored etc. But if design was not lucrative, everything would look ugly as.

    • You got further through than I did, I could not stomach that horrible website design. A bit ironic for a high-design retailer.

    • A lot of the stuff on the website looks 'Mad Men' 50s/60s inspired.
If I want it, I'll go down to lifeline :)

  • +1

how do these compare against the Ergo Human V2's? I use the Aeron's at work and they are quite comfortable… but the Ergo Humans look better on paper and can be had for a few hundred $$$'s less…

    • I'd also like to know. And where you can try one in Melbourne.

  • What about the embody chair? Is it a better choice than this one?
    https://livingedge.com.au/products/embody-work-chair-with-gr…

    • Subjective, if you're in the market for a good chair and want to invest in your health then check out both of them. I was in the same position 3 years ago and found the Embody to be more comfortable than the Aeron. Bought the Embody, no regrets.

      • Thanks for the reply!
I actually tried both of them, I feel the embody is slightly more comfortable. However, I didn't like that the neither of the chair has head support. Did you find without the head support a problem for you?

        • Get a steel case leap has an option for head rest.

    • Double the price…

  • -3

I've paid $300 for the couch. Please let me know why I should get this chair?

    • +4

Pull a desk up to the couch, move your computer onto it and the come back here.

    • +3

Rubbish as denoted by the word "gaming" in the items name.

  • Been using $50-$250 chairs across 30 years. No back problems whatsoever.

My checklist if go out hunting for a new chair:
    1. Must have an adjustable seat and back support that can be tilted forwards and back, and can be fixed in desired tilt position. (Gaming seating vs work seating vs watching movie seating)
    2. Leaning towards mesh as I run pretty hot and like to work in cooler conditions however the main thing will be the above criteria

At the end of the day common sense has to prevail ie try before you buy

    • What's the total price spent on chairs across your 30 years, if you don't mind me asking?

  • +3

I think I will keep my Buro Metro chair a bit longer…

    • Ditto, best 260 spent

  • Didnt like the Aeron. Did like the Mirra (version 1) and bought one. Version 2 of the Mirra didn't exist at that time.

  • How does the Haworth Zody compare to this and others mentioned in the comments?
I have very bad back, every chair I used in recent years I could only sit in for 15-20 mins, I am currently borrowing a Haworth Zody while friend is in the middle of relocation.
I have found the Zody to be very good, still get some pain after a while but can sit much longer than any other chair I tried.
I had seen posts for expensive chairs in the past and wondered if they are worth it, absolutely they are if you have any back issues.
I have looked at Herman Miller, Steelcase etc but would need at least a couple of days to try them out, very hard in regional vic.
Has anyone compared the Zody to the HM Aeron, Mirra, Steelcase or other chairs?

    • +1

      Zody is better.

Haworth Fern and Steelcase Gesture are better than the Zody though.

      • +1

Thanks will try check those out next time I'm in Melbourne.

  • -1

    I'll take 4

  • awesome chair people! If you allow yourself to spend this amount of quid on a work/office chair then you won't regret it. I bought the the model before this off ebay and is easily the best for me since I spend heaps of ours in the office sitting and then coming up and sitting some more at my computer

  • +1

I've sat on other herman Miller's and didn't like them. I found that the netting base and hard plastic rim cut off circulation in my legs.

We have Haworth Zody at work and they're brilliant. Bought 3 for around the house.

    • You were looking at the wrong size chair for your body size then or had them poorly adjusted. Don't blame the tools…

      • Worked supplied. Nothing I could do about it.

        • Fair enough :)

  • +1

Nice deal on this one. If you want a proper chair and you spend a lot of time on your PC (which I think 95% of us), you owe it to your back and butt to have this chair man.
I paid like 1200 for mine.

  • +1

Amazing chair, I use it at work and it's really comfortable but at home I prefer the Steelcase Leap, it is more adjustable and I prefer the material.

  • For around the same money you can ship an Office Master OM5 from Amazon …

  • +1

Incredible chair. I bought one for $650 second hand a few months ago, haven't looked back. Extremely comfortable, super supportive and infinitely customizable. Once you sit in one of these you'll never want to sit in anything else.

    Interesting article:

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2010-04-29/your-offi…

In the past three decades the U.S. swivel chair has tripled into a more than $3 billion market served by more than 100 companies. Unsurprisingly, America's best-selling chair has made a fetish of lumbar support. The basic Aeron, by Herman Miller, costs around $700, and many office workers swear by them. There are also researchers who doubt them. "The Aeron is far too low," says Dr. A.C. Mandal, a Danish doctor who was among the first to raise flags about sitting 50 years ago. "I visited Herman Miller a few years ago, and they did understand. It should have much more height adjustment, and you should be able to move more. But as long as they sell enormous numbers, they don't want to change it." Don Chadwick, the co-designer of the Aeron, says he wasn't hired to design the ideal product for an eight-hour-workday; he was hired to update Herman Miller's previous best-seller. "We were given a brief and basically told to design the next-generation office chair," he says.

  • +1

Can someone who already has really bad posture use one of these? I've tried correcting my sitting posture before but it just makes it more painful in the short term and I give up and go back to slouching.

    • This, in turn, causes problems with other parts of the body. "When you're standing, you're bearing weight through the hips, knees, and ankles," says Dr. Andrew C, Hecht, co-chief of spinal surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center. "When you're sitting, you're bearing all that weight through the pelvis and spine, and it puts the highest pressure on your back discs. Looking at MRIs, even sitting with perfect posture causes serious pressure on your back."

      • I wonder why sitting down would make the back bear more weight. Isn't the back still supporting the same amount of upper-half body, with the chair taking the lower half?

  • Has anyone found out about free shipping?

    • +2

Yep just got mine refunded automatically today.

      • Awesome. So just place the order and pay the shipping upfront and it will automatically be refunded?

I've tried callingand they've just tried to sell it to me over the phone. I dont want to buy over the phone.

    • +1

I got a reply through email and they refunded me the delivery cost.

  • I rang through to arrange pickup, only to be told that their warehouse is closed. Someone is calling me back with details soon. :-(

    • I bought one in Brisbane this morning. I got the same story and was told to expect a call back next week.

    • -1

I went instore to test the chair out. Staff said all chairs will be shipped out next week even if you buy in store. Warehouse staff still on Christmas break.

    • Just heard back from Living Edge. Warehouse is open again from Friday, and they offer Saturday collection.
