  • Docking station appears sold out in NSW and Vic?
Edit: just realised it starts tomorrow, thought I read that it ends tomorrow

It says in stock but the price is $32

Thoughts on the monitor? I was looking for a 27" but might pull the trigger on this 25"

    • +5

Keep in mind its an ultrawide and "only" 25 inches, so it will be a lot smaller vertically than a normal 25" and probably smaller than a 23

      • +1

Agreed. Do your research in regards to the actual size of these. I've got the 29" and it's great but any smaller and it would have been a downgrade from my previous 24". 29 and 32 are where these monitors shine.

        • I have a dual monitor setup one 22" 1680x1050 and one 24" 1080p. Hoping for a deal on a 29" ultrawide so i can replace them both. they take up too much space and too hard to calibrate them so they look the same.

Equivalent to a 20" 16:9 in height, so OK, but well short of 27 if you wanted a big screen.

Why did you care about the size, rather than the pixels? Smaller monitor positioned closer looks the same. Its not like a TV.

        • +1

So my 1080 5.5" phone would be fine as a full time monitor if I keep it close to my face.
A bigger screen causes me a lot less eye strain and makes gaming much more immersive even at the same resolution.

        • @geebee:
As you have found, there are practical limits, or we'd all be looking at a 5mm silicon chip :)

        • @manic:

          I don't get your point.

        • @alwynpan: Their point is "big screen good".

It's (presumably) possible to make a 5mm 1080p display, but not many people would buy one for their PC.

As likely as Gorodemon ever rejected a woman because her boobs were too small. Or too big.
As likely as Gorodemon ever rejected a woman.
As likely as Gorodemon ever had the opportunity to reject a woman?

Gosh. And I had a comment removed by Moderators as pointless which said it was a good price and linking a higher price elsewhere …

Ive got a dual setup with these monitors, Love it. But it can be bit hard to see things sometimes. But Ive got like 4 monitors in 2! Love it

The power consumption for this, the 29" and 32" are pretty good. The specs say it is powered by a separate power supply. Is there any chance you could check the Voltage and Current rating on the power adapter? Cheers.

The minimum size you should go for an ultrawide is 29 inches. That is roughly the equivalent of a regular 23 inch monitor hight wise.

These 25 inch ultrawides are really just a 20 inch screen.

    • Seems to be a decent monitor, I'm going to pick one up for my upcoming build as interim until a good 1440p freesync curved monitor comes out, whereupon I'll retire this to being a secondary display (apparently it's 75x75 VESA compatible). It actually has marginally higher dpi than 1440p 34" ultrawides (111 vs 109).

Then again, $10 off isn't exactly huge, might be worth taking your time to do some deliberating.

  • I can't find the mouse pad on their online store at all. Plenty of other SteelSeries mouse pads but not that one. Huh.

    • It looks like some items won't be on the site until tomorrow. However, I've found a couple by searching the item and MSY on Google, albeit still at full price until tomorrow.

    • If you are referring to the QCK Mass mousepad, I bought it from them the day before they removed the item from the site. It costed for $11. This was in December.

      $3 off = 27% discount

      • It is thick (6mm) and extremely smooth compared to a generic mousepad. Much bigger areal wise at 315mm by 285mm (NOT 320 x 285 as they state on the official website - preparing a complaint to the ACCC as we speak). No chance of it slipping around since it is heavy with a grippy bottom.
      • Came in a box rolled up so when removed, it took a bit of rolling in the opposite direction to flatten the pad.
      • Also came with a strong plastic smell but after a day in the sun and open air and a couple of days of use with the window open, the smell is heavily reduced and is only detectable if you stick your nose right up to it. Maybe a good wash will completely remove the smell.
      • Edges are not stitched
      • Worth it

If you are referring to the Heroes of the Storm Mousepad, this is it: http://www.msy.com.au/mouse-pad/17359-steelseries-63076mpqck…

      • I was referring to the QCK. I just wanted to check store stock to see if it was worth going in. Calling MSY is never fun.

Thoughts on the docking station anyone?

    • I'm pretty sure I've got the dual drive version of these. If you can find out whether they're using a JMicron vs ASMedia controller - go for the ASMedia one every time.

      • +1

Sorry, I'm a noob. What is the difference between the two?

        • JMicron used to silently eat data. I haven't had any issues with ASMedia.

        • @voltagex: I wonder how I can find out. Find other HDD docking stations with in built memory card readers for $25, seems like a better deal.

  • Shame the PSUs aren't modular :(

    • +2

Would recommend the Corsair RM550X. Quality parts, fully modular, super quiet (the fan turns off at low load), and a 10 year warranty for $149.

  • This deal starting at midnight?

  • Would the docking station be a good too for backing up files?

I'm drowning in so much video, regular portable HDDs seem cost-inneficient…

  • The powered Belkin 7 port USB hub is a great price, too.

  • This seems to be a better option than the Unitek HDD docking station as for a few dollars more it includes a memory card reader

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-5-3-5-SATA-IDE-HDD-USB-Dual-Doc…

    • Looks like a generic model so would be wary unless you have heard good things from people who have used it. FYI, it looks to be two bays but one is for older IDE HDDs and it is only USB 2.0.

Anything to do with data storage is something I would personally pay more for to get a reputable brand. This would hopefully minimise the chance of potential issues when you need to access the data.

    • I used to have this item before and it fried 2 of my 3.5'' HDD. It is a bit hit and miss for these items on eBay :( . Unitek docking is a much safer and better choice to be honest

  • OTB means "one touch backup"? Do anyone actually use such feature?

  • I bought this monitor probably about a week or two ago for $10 more (gah!!!) and I can vouch for it. It's not as tall as other monitors but it's very wide and comfortably fits two side by side windows. At work I've got some 24" screens and honestly I'd much prefer the 25".

  • I have a Dell U2715H and an Asus VE278H, I want to replace the VE278H with one with higher res. Is it worth buying the LG one? Will it be weird if I put U2715H and the LG one side by side?
