ZTE Axon 7 - Amazon.de vs Aliexpress

The Axon 7 4GB/64GB Grey is back at 399EUR on Amazon.de (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01I092IPC/) and I'm close to pulling the trigger. Amazon tells me this will be about A$530 at checkout, and this includes 19EUR delivery (despite claiming delivery is free).

However Aliexpress has 4GB/128GB Grey for $523, including glass and silicon case (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-ZTE-Axon-7-4G-LTE-S…).

I need some help to choose between them. For $7 less, I take the risk of a dodgy deal on AliExpress, but if it's legitimate, I can get an extra 64GB of storage for less than the Amazon deal.

So, is the AliExpress buyer protection robust? I've bought of Ali before but never had to open a dispute.

I am attempting to contact the seller to verify the phone is the A2017G model (not the A2017U) and also to gauge their responsiveness.

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks

I'd choose Amazon for a purchase like that. Much easier to chase up if something is wrong.

Amazon cause of assurance of perfect delivery.

Yep, but just how good/bad is AliExpress?

Don't forget 7% cashback on Aliexpress. As stated, it is the A2017 version (no letter at the end means the Chinese version) which lacks B28.

Generally Aliexpress is pretty robust in regards to immediate / dead on arrival issues in that they withhold payment to the seller until you give A OK. I think realistically you have to expect no warranty beyond that. At the end of the day, that's the risk you take with getting a cheap price. Basically your options at that point would be exploring going through third party repair shops or selling for parts on eBay.

I should say, I have had issues in the past with Aliexpress when I bought a clothing item and it was not as pictured. I ended up only getting 50% back, even though it was basically fraud. Not a big deal for me since the item was very cheap and virtually everything else (like >95%), I've bought from there has been of expected quality or better.

None of that really deters me. Taking a gamble on no / little warranty has generally worked out well for me over the long term. I'm waiting on buying the Aliexpress one until I see a good deal / AUDUSD perks up / another 10% Aliexpress promotion. You have the Amazon option which will give you B28, warranty but will be costlier to send back. Or you have the option of buying domestically which is more expensive, but negligible postage costs in the event of warranty.

    • "as stated"? I couldn't find any info that it was not the G model

      • Well, yes I just confirmed it through communicating with the seller. It's the A2016 Chinese version

It specifies A2017 in the description text next to Model. It would make sense that any of the Axon 7s selling on Aliexpress around that same price are going to be the same, you would not to expect to get a EU/AU/US version on there.

  • Is Axon 7 still a good phone in terms of technology and value for money though it was released in 2016 and Axon 7s is out in market and Axon 8 (sooni'sh) have been talked about already? What should be the right price for it now?
