This is from Aldi’s latest special buy, from 30 Jan 2008 until stock last. Tevion brand 37” High Definition LCD TV is on sale for $999!

  • 2 year warranty.
  • 1200:1 contrast ration
  • 1366x768 resolution
  • 400 cd/m2 brightness
  • Built in HD Digital TV tuner

Big LCD TVs are just getting cheaper!

According to Wikipedia (which we all know is a trust worthy source :), 1366x768 is a High Definition resolution, being able to display video with 720p HD video mode.

However it is not able to display 1080p.

1366x768 is one of the standard widescreen high definition resolutions… up until recently this grade of quality was all that was needed, but with resolutions higher than 50”, the difference between a 1080p (1900x1080) and 1080i (1366x768) is much more clearer… that said i have a panasonic 50” plasma which is 1366x768 which is excellent (and as reviews have said, the picture quality on my screen is better than the new 1080p model) so really… its more up to the quality of the panel than the pixels (but it being tevion, very questionable quality.

hd broadcasted tv i believe is in 720p.. for comparisons sake, a dvd is usuall 420-568p

The 1080 in both 1080p and 1080i refers to the number of lines of vertical resolution, so you’ll find that both 1080p and 1080i (in widescreen) have resolutions of 1920 x 1080.

Sure yes! Nothing better than queueing up 1 hour in a crowded Aldi on the Australia Day long weekend so you can get a 37” LCD TV with built in HD tuner for $999!!!

However I was very disappointed with my local Aldis (Eastlake and Maroubra, Sydney) that you can usually get to the end of queue within minutes. That just makes it too easy!
