Further Info/Tips

There are two "tricks" that can be extremely beneficial as there is a common trend experienced by 7-Eleven App users: 1) If you receive an error processing your credit/debit card, you can purchase a 7-Eleven Gift Card in-store and apply the credits instantly onto the App. 2) You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel, you can lock-in the price and pay via Cash or Card at the checkout saving the hassle of constantly topping up, gift cards, etc.

        Yeah 7-11 app shows 138.9

        • +2

yea not sure why not showing up, but def lower price. i'm gonna go have another look tonight when i pick up son from work see if it's still that price.

          • @disturboed: That'd be great if you can.

The 7-11 app says it was last updated at 11.18am
So it might be down again but not registering. Hopefully it'll show up tomorrow.

          • @disturboed: Presumably the price has gone up? As still not reflective in the app.

            • @Craze: Yeah nah, I checked, so if it's cheap, it's off the 7-11 grid.

  • +2

Good U98 price at Glen Waverley 141.9c

Good opportunity to ask for assistance. When trying to set location in nox it comes up with a "This page cant load Google maps correctly" error.

It shows for development purposes only all over the area grid.

I can select the location only if I put in lat and long co-ordinates.

Anyone else get this error and know how to resolve? Typing in location is much easier :)

Sorry just scrolled through deals and saw it was already posted. Hopefully this post might still make some aware of the good price.

    • +3

Search this thread for your error. I believe everyone has it and just uses long/lat now.

    • +1

price is back to 159 at Glen Waverley.
      They were quick

    • +1

There is nothing you can do about the Google Maps error - it can only be fixed by Nox developers paying more money to Google. It may be there some days and not on others depending on the number of people using Nox.

I can select the location only if I put in lat and long co-ordinates.

      yep that's the work around

    • The Nox keeps crashing on me.:(

      • Thanks fellas, I follow the thread closely but obviously not close enough. Happy to use workaround if it's a known issue.

  • +10

I thought we were in a downward trend when 91 was $1.19 - $1.21 over the weekend, but they're still really high.

Hopefully they drop back down to more normal prices soon. Can't complain though as I have to fill fuel regardless and I'm saving heaps thanks to OzBargainers and Freightliners script, so thank you overall.

    • +1

      Haha…..

Yes, clearly many people that have read this thread do have a link to it.

      Thanks for asking.

      • Weird, works on my phone but not on work PC

Project 0 might be blocking your IP range from work. I noticed my work IP was coming up as USA 2 days ago on OzBargain and Project 0 blocks international IP ranges.

          • @sween64: Thanks! Was wondering why it never worked when I use work wi-fi.

  • +1

Melbourne is coming to the bottom of their price cycle. Hoping U98 comes down to 137c/L at Glen Waverley!

    • -1

what's the current price of their normal unleaded atm?

      • Some (non 7Elevens) have it for around $1.34-$1.38

        • Can use current Coles/Flybuys 10c off (Targeted) + 4c off shopping receipt to get 14c off per litre, only worth it if your local Cole Express is close to the lowest price. I hardly ever go Coles Express anymore due to bullshit high prices, but this might get used if no cheap 7/11 locks come up soon!

          • +2

@billy_bob: Odd. All of the Coles Expresses that I drive past now are pretty much comparable prices to other servos since Coles stopped setting the prices and Viva Energy started, or at least it was announced they are.

            • +3

@Freighter: OK thanks, I might have to have a look, I have just automatically ignored Coles Express the last 2 years.

              • +2

@billy_bob: Just a few random places from PetrolSpy:

                Coles Burwood - 137.9
                BP Burwood - 139.9
                7/11 - 137.9

                Coles Keilor Park - 143.9
                BP - 143.9
                United 143.7

                Coles Geelong 141.9
                7/11 - 144.9
                Woolies - 142.9

So not always the cheapest but close. There's a few where they are still 1-2 cents more expensive but that's the same for 7/11 or Woolies or BP too.

      • -2

      Thanks for posting here first.

    • +1

Due to out of stock on U91

    • now it's been posted as a deal, I wonder if it'll disappear soon?

      • +2

Nah. People too busy on the adani thread to notice!

        • Hehe indeed, that has been amusing.

It seems these price reductions have ended quite quickly of late, I was wondering if it's related to being posted as a deal here (and either HQ noticing and taking it down, or getting an alert because of all the sudden lockin).

          • @[Deactivated]: This thread started in 2017. Crazy how it still works 2 years later!
I do recall a station attendant asking if i had locked in via ozb, that was 2018. Im guessing there is no solid way to block cheap lock ins, only to ramp up procedures to mitigate their losses i.e. the alerts system you referred to. Pretty good idea. Sure you arent 7/11 employee? =D

            • +1

@inamberclad: I'm pretty sure there was a thread before this one because I recall seeing it first pop up in the end of 2016 and I began using it then.

      • +4

Just waiting for someone to post "Can someone help with the Mod Apk"………..

        • +1

Can someone help with the Mod Apk?

There. Made your day. TML =P

          • +1

@inamberclad: We already got one requesting someone to lock it in for them… with a promise they will use it tonight

            • @Lucille Bluth: Yes, obviously Jeeves is too much of a Luddite to know how to use the app, but I'm sure he'll fill the car for them.

      • 24 hours on, deal still on. Perhaps it isn't that great of a deal lol. 2nd best price is 2 cents more, third about 8 cents

        • i know it's great, I'll lock in again later tonight.

Just the last 3-4wks the discounted 98 seems to have disappeared within a few hours of posting as a deal here. But then again ignore my commewnts, I predicted petrol prices would hit bottom around the NSW & Federal elections…total wrong on both accounts.

Hopefully they'll stay low fo the next week so I can lock in for the long w/e

  • -7

Is it okay for someone in nsw to lock in prices for VIC ans QLD? Cheers.

      • Where in that thread does it specifically say its okay or not?

        • +4

          Exactly.

      • No one else here has been banned for locking in interstate prices. Did you receive an email from 7-Eleven advising of the ban?

      • +2

        Sure you did.

      • +1

Sure you did. 7/11 HQ aren't even open weekend to ban accounts.

I'll keep locking in interstate prices like everyone else thanks

    • +1

      Read the OP

        • Check the deals front page.

  • Has anyone else had issues getting Frieghters script to work with IOS 12.3?

    • Do you want to provide more info on what you're doing, and what the issues are? Unless you're running the script on your iOS device (using Pythonista?), the device you've got the 7-11 app installed on should have nothing to do with it

      • I think they are confused, this is what I got after I messaged them:

When we press on set location nothing happens. Before updating it was working fine.

        • I’m having issues too. I’m running the tethered ifakelocation on windows and it won’t work sending the fake location to the phone. Since updating to 12.3.1.
I’ve been subbed to the Patreon for a few months now.
          Cheers

Does anyone have any thoughts or real info on how successful the pricelock program is for 7/11

Obviously they get more customers through the door and that’s a fundamental of retailing (I know I’ve ended up buying things I would never have if not for locking in)

Assume that the number of OzB people taking (full!) advantage is relatively tiny compared to the total pool of users.

Additionally my only half baked theory is that taking a hit on fuel profit margins is just a sideshow and that the main game is actually investing our money.

For every participant they get $100 or so of cash to babysit. If they have 100,000 users they'd have approx $10 million to play with in short term investments or to offset business loans.

Someone please critique this and tell me I’m speaking nonsense!

    • +11

Someone please critique this and tell me I’m speaking nonsense!

I have $80ish in each of my accounts, some of my cheaper friends with smaller fuel tanks have $60..

If they have 100,000 users they'd have approx $10 million to play with in short term investments or to offset business loans.

Let's make some rather crude assumptions here.

According to Google play store, we have 500,000+ installs
According to iOS market share, supposed to have higher market share than Android in Australia.
Supposed that they (iOS) also have 500,000 installs.
And that each install is unique to one login (Not applicable to OzB pool of users because Nox on computer, and actual 7/11 app on a phone would count as two installs)

      So total 1M installs.
Let's assume only half of the "installs" have active accounts (some people will install an app and delete it), and only 2/3rds of them of them have actual app credit.
Let's assume a very low average of $50 app credit per account.
      1,000,000 x 1/2 (half active) x 2/3 (active accounts with actual credit) x $50 (average app credit)

According to these extremely crude calculations, they will have approximately $16M to play with.

This seems like a large number.. but let's say they gain 5% per year on interest..$800,000

If we split this across 500,000 active users, this means for a no-loss scenario, if each user were to take advantage of fuel savings, they would need to provision $1.60 per account.

I for sure have saved over $250 per account that I have. Very sure for OzB members they'd be making quite a loss
I'm sure there's a few accounting tricks up their sleeve to use this as a write-off

There's a lot of assumptions here, actual active users (we don't know the amount), average app credit

I'm sure the loss of this app is supposed to be subsidized by the business people are bringing in, and the fact that 7/11 gained a MASSIVE market share due to this app.
I have almost stopped filling up at Caltex Woolworths for 4 active cars, as much as I love using Woolies 4c +6% eGift stack.

When you play Monopoly, it's better to take $200 from someone else, than gain it from "the game". In a two player scenario, you are really gaining a total of a $400 swing in assets. -200 theirs, and +200 yours.

Great comment thanks – glad you’re even more generous in how much cash they might be holding on to.

Obviously I’m wondering in the context of how much some of the tactics on here might hurt them.

On one hand they obviously care a little bit as they’ve closed some user accounts. But as I’ve commented before, it would be trivial for them to isolate suspicious activity – if they really really cared they could easily crack down harder.

I guess in general the whole program must be a win for them, with the market share gains as you say. Like you I’ve changed my fuel buying habits completely - then again though, without Nox would I bother…?

        • +1

Great comment thanks – glad you’re even more generous in how much cash they might be holding on to.

$16M to hold onto for a massive company is really not that much in the eyes of a company like 7/11

I guess in general the whole program must be a win for them, with the market share gains as you say. Like you I’ve changed my fuel buying habits completely - then again though, without Nox would I bother…?

Without the app, we (my family) would fill up at 7/11 once or twice a year in the past.
It was always Caltex Woolworths until the 7/11 fun began.
Now the tables have turned.. Only I bother with woolies 4c + 6% eGift when price cycle is low.
My family just uses 7/11 out of convenience and habit.

On one hand they obviously care a little bit as they’ve closed some user accounts. But as I’ve commented before, it would be trivial for them to isolate suspicious activity – if they really really cared they could easily crack down harder.

That's true, I think if it gets too big, they will really crack down on it (you will be surprised for how many people do not even use OzBargain)

          • @cwongtech: I reckon fuel is just a loss leader, just like supermarket specials or discounted fuel vouchers. It's the other stuff most people buy is where they make their money. The choccie bar, the soft drink, the donut…etc.

          • +1

            @cwongtech:

…you will be surprised for how many people do not even use OzBargain…

            It is hard to imagine!

But seriously that’s the main bit that makes me wonder about your assessment of how much marketshare they’ve actually grabbed and maybe the cash in the bank is a bigger deal. With OzB strategies, using 7/11 is a no brainer, but if you’re doing it by the book it’s a good option but maybe not enough to change shopping patterns.

Anyone still waiting for their gift card ? It’s been 2 months and counting

    • +5

I assume you called them to chase it up the last time you mentioned you were still waiting?

      • I’ve sent them a few emails since and followed the “reject” part of the email to re-open “case” and no reply.

        • +1

Might be time to call.your bank/credit card company to do a charge back.

    • +1

I accidentally gave them the wrong address when I emailed them. Gave them a call after I realised (two weeks) and they had it resent express post. Came within two days.

I'd just call them. They are very helpful and friendly.

      • Thanks for letting me know, I’ll give them a call tomorrow

  • +2

145.9 is cheap for 98, not as cheap as the deals that get posted though but still cheaper than what it is in WA

    • yeah good deal for at least from last week. I just filled at 147.9 thanks to this forum and thread.

Free coffee per month is missing this month. Anybody else notice its gone too?

    • You're right, have $1 large coffee offer on both my accounts instead :(

    • +1

      still getting mine.

    • Yeah. Hopefully just one month off. Also I haven’t locked in since Tuesday so maybe that’s why.

  • that 91 keeps dropping, 125.9 @ Noble Park, Vic
    98 is 143.9

Hopefully it'll hold out until Friday, so we can lock in for the following long w/e (except to those republican queenslanders)
