  • I got these from the Coop bookshop for $150 once a upon a time.
    Pretty nice set of cans.

I can't remember how many times people have posted about these on online forums and reviewed these, so just google search if you want to see their strengths and weaknesses.

I highly recommend trying out the m40x first. Cheaper retail price ($127) even without a sale and in my opinion sound better.

    • Completely agree. M40X do sound better in my opinion too. The M50X are very popular and it's hard to find people who talk about their faults, and my god they have their faults.

Anyway, for anyone interested, I highly recommend (M40X + more comfortable pads) for the price you would pay for the M50X.

      • What pads would you recommend? Using them all day can get pretty uncomfortable

Geez. I bought a pair for this price or less like 2 years ago. You would think the price would slowly depreciate but apparently not.

    • I actually paid $186 for the Matt Grey ones at Store DJ last August and now they're $199, go figure.

Save your money. It's ok for $140-$150.

  • If you actually use these daily it's worth the purchase. I've absolutely killed mine (~2 years use), they're still working just VERY worn and they still sound great and fit like an old pair of joggers. Next time though I'm getting real leather on my headphones.

Can anyone recommend a good pair of headphones which don't have pleather?

    • Audeze or hifiman

  • If you have big ears, this headphone isn't so good for long usage as it puts a lot of pressure on the ear lobes.

Fortunately, you can replace the ear cups with something bigger and more comfortable.

    • wow I never know about this, do you have any recommendation on where I can get the bigger ear cups ?

      • +2

Make a search for the Brainwavz HM5 earpads, the pleather option is generally recommended for the m50x. But I'm not sure if any stores stock them in Australia though.

        • Good recommendation, but there are a lot of other options as well. I brought some off ebay that has velour, since I didn't want to pay too much.

  • These headphones are terrible. Wouldnt recommend. Check out this guys review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UrKy1EuO0k

The ATH-40's crap all over them.

  • Just price matched the matte grey version at jbhifi Geelong! Very happy with these thus far.

    • Glad you are happy and could get them for that price without waiting on shipping!
