What's the deal? it was already this price.

  • +2

    normal everyday price & terms

    • Not even. If u going into a Telstra shop the same package is advertised for $35 a month incl. IQ2

      • This is IPTV Foxtel Play. IQ2 is a different service (full Foxtel).

        • Doesn't full foxtel come with a foxtel go subscription as well?

        • @Gavman:
Yes it does but Foxtel Go & Play are different subscriptions (and packages). Go is an addition to your full Foxtel subscription - Play is only via internet.

        • @sinners007:
The point is that you get more for less with a Full subscription.

        • @scubacoles:
Yes, that is true, but it's not the point I was making. Some people can't get full residential Foxtel to get the better valued Foxtel Go - so Foxtel Play is all they can get - I was just explaining the differences.

Also, I'm not sure what deal Gavman is referencing but full Foxtel + Sports costs $55 p/m ($65 for HD) and may have some start up costs associated as well.

I just popped over to the Telstra website and they have a 12 month promo price of $40 p/m ($50 for HD) then back to full price, with a $175 start up cost and 12 month contract.

  • No support for Chromecast really kills this service for me. I'm sure it's coming?

Should get a telstra tv for this, it's the only way right now to watch HD channels, and it looks alright.

      • Also even better when you hack Plex into the box.

      • @jetship
So just to confirm, I can't buy a Telstra TV box outright for $109 and then subscribe to just the sport for $39 per month. Can you subscribe for one month then cancel and then subscribe at another time? My main interest is the golf. Plus I could then get Game of Thrones?

When you say it looks alright does that mean it's not great in HD? It's lower quality than normal?

        • you'd need to add a further package on top to get GOT. It isn't on the basic channels.

        • You can buy Telstra TV boxes outright, you need to subscribe to one of the following: lifestyle, Docos or Kids for $10 each package you will only need one. Then you can add sports for $29 per month on a month to month contract meaning you could buy one month and cancel before the month after. I think you can subscribe to POP which has shows like walking dead and GOT for $15 month so $44 per month with sport.

      • is this true?? it's only HD on Telstra TV??

        • Yes, for now because it is coming out for other devices at an unknown time.

        • @Jetship: >:(

I would be signed up to this if my Hisense TV picked up Foxtel. Why are they not getting this sorted!

    • +1

Just got one. Thinking the same thing

  • afl inc?

  • +1

is AFL not part of the sports pack?

    • +1

It's definitely not listed on the included channels! Not much of a deal. :S

      • It's called "footy play" with Foxtel Play (and Foxtel Go without complicating matters) and is part of the sports package.

The 3 months free Pop deal is still going (use code TELPRESBOH10), meaning you can get sport for $29 a month for 3 months:

  • This is probably not the place to ask, but what is the cheapest way to watch fox afl on a tv? I have a Telstra live pass but from what I understand the resolution sucks if you try to chrome cast it?

    • Also wondering this, look like shit when you chromecast AFL live pass to the TV, like so bad, much worse than SD, equal to say VIP box streaming, the crown bet app (free live games) I actually found to be better than SD on a 50" TV when chromecasting
Last year I took advantage of the Free foxtel deal and had free HD sports for 3 months and free SD sports for another 2, then had to only pay for 1 month ($30 to keep it for the finals…

Seriously considering getting foxtel just for the next few months over the footy season unless anyone can come up with a better way to watch live/replays on demand?
I usually record any game that I'm going to miss and it really was convenient. I'll call them up and try haggle the price down first.

  • That's what I was just wondering. Will Chromecast play decent quality from this?

Sorry, I'm being a bit thick today. Can anyone clarify the below for me? :)

I am an existing Telstra customer and do not have a Foxtel subscription or a Telstra TV box.

Through this deal, would I be paying $39 /mo total for accessing the sport package on an Android phone/tablet or iOS phone/tablet?
Are there any other devices which I can utilise to say, stream to my TV? I own a Roku 4 & Chromecast.

    Thanks in advance

Try mobdro on your roku 4 not bad has plenty channels there and it's free considering you have good internet speeds it's worth a try
Download it thru Google not the playstore
