Panasonic Lumix G85 Body Only $939 ($150 off) @ Cambuy.com.au (Free Shipping for Orders over $200)

Holding out for an e-m5 mkII deal myself (prefer the smaller size and option to +/- grip as needed), but this looks like a good deal for G85 delivered.

So many places get this wrong. It's 5-axis DUAL IS. it's NOT 5-axis IBIS. It's 3 ibis, 2 in lens. Oly has 5 axis ibis.

Having said that, the even 3 axis ibis in the gx85 is brilliant. The improved Venus engine actually does an amazing job of noise reduction.

Don't get me wrong, it's no full frame camera/system, but I'm SUPER impressed, and very happy with my gx85 purchase over a very tempting Sony a7 (mk1). The cheaper and lighter body with cheaper glass is a great trade off.

Not sure where you got this info from but the official info states that it is 5 axis IBIS with dual IS 2. They are two different techs. You will still get the 5 axis IBIS with a none Panasonic lens.

    • You are wrong.

What are you on about? The body stabilizer is a 5-axis system. This is completely separate from DUAL IS. When you put a compatible Panasonic lens with lens IS, DUAL IS will engage where 2 axis is disabled in the body, and the other 2 axis of the lens work together as they both communicate with each other. Sony does the same. The GX85 does not have 3 axis.

If only I had the money…

  • Looks bloody tempting but I have already switched to Canon system.

    • May I ask what you switched from and to?

I'm actually looking to switch the other way round - Canon 50D to m43, to shed some weight for hiking and travelling!

I switched from Pentax to Canon for video.
I still use my Pentax K-5ii for stills as its sensor has phenomenal dynamic range and it is REALLY well built camera.
Pentax lenses (limited primes and DA* zooms) are perfect.
But Pentax really sucks when it comes to video shooting.

      • If you want something lighter I reckon Panasonic is the right choice for you.
Although I am not familiar with their lenses.
I heard that they're reasonably good and not too expensive.

  • LUMIX G85 integrates 5-Axis Dual I.S.2 (Image Stabiliser)*, combining body and lens stabilisation to gain more powerful handshake correction and compensating your shots up to 5 F-Stops**.

** 5-Axis Dual I.S. 2 works when attaching the lens that are compatible with it. Firmware update of the lens is also required.
** Based on the CIPA standard [Yaw/Pitch direction: focusing distance f=50-140mm (35mm film camera equivalent f=100-280mm), when H-FS14140 is used.]

    • I don't know why you highlighted that part. That just describes what dual IS does.

In general, without a dual IS system (introduced with the gx8, the first pana body to use IBIS) if you have both IBIS and lens IS there is nothing which says they will work well together and you might actually get worse results. The dual IS system ensures that they work together. It is called dual IS 2 because the g85 contains a better IBIS than the gx8 hence the dual is system is also newer.

The IBIS is 5 axis. The lens IS is 2 axis. They work together to deliver up to 5 stops of improvment for slow shutter speeds.

    • What point are you trying to make here? Or are you just randomly copying and pasting features?

@blackfyre Get this camera. I have the Em-5 Mark II and I wish I had known about this camera beforehand. I've actually been trying to sell mine since I got it 1-2 months ago. You'll never use the em5-mark ii without the grip because without it, it's terrible to hold. I bought it to be able to do more video than just my Go Pro while also being able to take good stills. The video is BAD, practically unusable sometimes. I wish I could pick this one up, but I need to sell the other one first

    • Having handled both cameras, definitely agree about the ergonomics (or the lack of with em5).

Being more a stills shooter with interest in landscape and stars, Sony A7ii is my first choice, but it will take the launch of A7iii to drop those prices to my budget. Current prices of Sony A7i looks awfully tempting.. The size and cost of lenses, not so much.

Cheaper and smaller lenses of m43 are what I'm after, and the high-res mode and live composite are what swayed me to the EM5ii.

I would have jumped on this G85 deal if my main interest was video.

      • Isn't the G85 a m43 as well? Correct me if I'm wrong. The em5 is good for stills, I am constantly impressed with it when taking shots. I was looking for a best of both worlds and in my research somehow I missed any mention of G85, but G7/G5 come up lots (strange). How about you buy this and we'll swap ;) haha

        • Yes G85 is m43, I was tossing up between G85 and em5ii, which the features I mentioned and flexibility to size up/down with a grip with em5ii won me over.

          I should've phrased my sentence better =)
