That is a pretty good deal!

  • +1

Important details : Item condition - Manufacturer refurbished

    • Could also only be a factory 2nd…

Scratched box or on the tv housing which is most likely.
Doubt Sony would refurbish used TVs

        Definition of seconds:

        http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Rg0AAOSwImRYU1-M/s-l500.jpg

A damaged box, I would wear, but a scratched screen would shit me to tears. Seconds are something I'd rather see in the flesh before purchase.

        • +5

It wouldn't be assessed in working order with scratched screen. It would be outright defective not a 2nd.

          This is directly from Sony.

          Great deal OP.

New ones for sale for $999 on ebay from Sony.

        • @BKZ:

If that's the case, more chance of buyer satisfaction then.

        • most likely sent back due to software issues or clouding , software seems to be most common issue with sony these days though.

by software issues i mean updates not done

    • so even the review thinks its meh, would just pay few hundred more to get a better model

      • +3

yeah it's low end, no Android OS.

I purchased this model last December and I had returned it the next day as I found a "white" pixel on the upper part of the screen where the black bars of the movie show up… but after having this TV since then I would not recommend it, perhaps as a second TV but not your main lounge/movie theatre room TV, picture quality is not as great as my old KDL 46XBR.

  • Will most likely be brand new in a slightly "damaged" box. Bought quiet a few from Sony. Unlike seconds and reconditioned from graysonline. Will never buy those items again. Just had to return a panasonic hifi to them. Was scratched as anything and died after a few days

    • Bought a Sony stereo system during one of last year's second's sale. Box was missing some foam packaging, no manual and a couple of light scratches on the stereo, probably from the missing foam.
Would say brand new and just a damaged box

      • +1

Oh damn that the first ive heard. I bought a receiver, 2 micro hifi systems and a 5.1 surround package system and all have been brand spanking new. Only 1 box had a few stains on it.

        • That's been my experience with buying seconds, or even refurbished, items from Sony. All could have easily passed for brand new. Never bought a TV from them, though.

  • Too many unhappy customers from the Sony eBay seconds store to risk dealing with them. They were neg'd by a buyer of this TV in the last month.

  • I bought a factory second from Sony eBay store. Big long swirly scratches all over the screen, as if a child had just started drawing on it with an object. Wiped and cleaned, ended up using a eraser to fill in the gaps. Would not recommend, but I could have been unlucky.

    Buyer beware.

Does it comes with cia's back door ?

    • consider yourself on the watchlist now…

Be VERY wary of these Sony "2nds" (damaged packaging OK but incomplete shipments and no QA? bzzzz not acceptable) I have had (still having) a HORRIBLE experience with a 49" bought three weeks ago from Sony here on ebay.

Bought two units BOTH packages were missing packet of screws - so base could not be attached.. took over a week to arrive after many many contacts with Sony; one AC power adapter faulty (DOA) had to get replacement sent .. finally able to install 2nd unit after almost 3 weeks.. then one unit OK 2nd one installed but 2nd day of operation it died… still waiting for repair — diagnosed by Sony Service agent by counting number of times red light blinked (6) — will see if unit fixed on Monday

Just a heads up — Be prepared for failures

just piggybacking on this comment, I bought a 75" 4k refurb from the last lot of 20% off sales. Unit arrived after 2 weeks of shipping (they said they had delays due to the ebay sale, fair enough).

When I set the unit up, I could not tune it for FTA. Whenever I went into the tuner settings, the unit would just reset entirely (android OS splashscreen). Got onto Sony Support who couldn't troubleshoot it over the phone, so they decided to send a tech out to inspect the unit. I live in Regional SA, so the tech that came out was just a local from the area. He couldn't work out how to use the android OS as "he's never seen a tv like this before". He went away and spoke to Sony and determined the main board needs to be replaced. I'm still waiting for him to get approval from Sony for the part to be sent to him. It's been over a month and still no FTA on my TV.

Granted I don't watch too much FTA, but on the off chance I want to watch the news I haven't been able to. Seems like there's been failures from all directions on this one (sony ebay store, Sony support, local tv repairer).

Point of this post is to say, keep in mind you are buying a refurb. I was able to save $2k off the retail price from buying a refurb model, so at the end of the day, 1 month without FTA is fine by me for the price I saved (was holding out on buying a 75" until one for the right price came along), however it may not be for others.

      • I'm on a similar problem on the K8500D also refurb from Sony Seconds ebay store, I get some FTA channels except the Channel 7 group (Ch 46 I think?), if i do a manual tuning i get the group back, but as soon as the TV turns off/on they disappear, anyone had a similar problem ?

  • what is the best 55" TV to buy at $1,000 or under?

  • I ordered one of the other models and its been a week, they've provided the tracking number, but its not even picked up yet. I sold my TV hoping it would be quick but darn!

I've asked them to cancel, lets see.

    • You cancel and you won't have a TV at all!

      • I'll buy a new one

  • +1

I have a sony 2nds TV 65" 4K never had an issue with it, Looked like it brand new when i took it out the box.

  • With seconds you can be lucky or unlucky. Problem is if you are unsatisfied with the picture it's hard to complain because it's seconds. If it's a scratch on the back or a damaged box then it's a win but if it's a problem with the screen, bright pixels or scratches then it's a sad purchase. Remember you'll be staring at the front of the thing for many hours presumably.
As for Sony store, bought a 65" in their sale recently, took a week to arrive, They use DHL and it seems hopeless in Australia. Estimated arrival was 5 days earlier, no updates on tracking, nothing so be prepared. No point in staying home waiting for arrival on the due date.

  • Bought a 42" Sony Android Tv for ~$500 from the seconds store. Arrived basically brand new. Couldnt find anything wrong with the item or packaging.

Im guessing they also use the seconds store to run out old models that they may have stockpiled.

  • Wow terrible feedback on their Ebay store supporting comment above.

  • Spent double on this TV in January last year :(

  • +1

As expected - TV came broken on arrival (Huge crack on the front). Disgusted with this store, how do you ship something out in this quality?

    • Do you have any pictures regarding the cracked screen?

This is truly disgusting that they sent it out like this - Are you sure it wasn't damaged in transit?

      • I just took a couple now - http://imgur.com/a/GYNkx

This is so heartbreaking. It doesnt look like it was damaged in transit (the packaging seemed all fine, styrofoamed and everything when I pulled it out), although I cant be sure.

    • Also, if you look at their eBay Feedback, not many people are happy with Second/Refurbished TV's also

Would Contact them ASAP, and explain to them that you're NOT happy.

      • Yeah I was just looking over that now. Will be hounding them on all forms of communication tomorrow. Very disappointed.

        • Any updates?

Very Interested to see what they had to say.

        • @ElliotBro:

Yeah they'll be picking it up and giving me a refund. Yet to give me specifics regarding pick up - fearing I may have to wait a while.
