terrific. bought this for $90 last week

If you haven't bought the panorama view, it is also half price, $7.99..

see this is one reason i dont like the iphone.
        everything costs money.

You would think that if you buy a gps application you could turn your phone on its side as that would be the logical way to use a gps application. But no, that costs extra.

        • +7

That seems like a poor reason to dislike the iPhone, since the stock version of Navigon does have landscape view, like pretty much every GPS navigation app.

The optional "panorama view" refers to a topographic add-on.

Well it is a small reason. (a bigger reason would be the inability to use it for longer than a day on a single charge)

Not that gps on a phone bothers me, i have a nokia and they give it away for free :)

              @anthony:

Well it is a small reason.

Actually it's not any reason, since the initial criticism about landscape view wasn't based on fact.

As for using it longer than a day on a single charge, it depends on what you use it for, like every smartphone.

I do think it's great that Nokia has free GPS navigation on some models, since you'd want something to make up for the rest of the phone. ;-) I got rid of my N80i (my 3rd Nokia) for an iPhone in October 2007 and have never looked back.

@hangdog: The voting on this thread is hilarious so far, +2 -2 +2 -2 then +1? freecandy must still be asleep! :p

                Fanbois are so funny! :D

                  @StewBalls: Voting on comments ftw

                • @StewBalls: Was that fanbois, or thread crappers and trolls?

This is a deal on a particular GPS app. With all due respect, a platform troll is not the same as pointing out a problem with the deal.

                  • @hangdog: Well true, but it does take all kinds, or so they say! ;)

            • @anthony: Nokia GPS is unusable.

        • You can turn it on its side. You don't need to purchase the panorama view to do that.

        • apps from nokias store cost money as well, guess you dont like Nokia either…oh and apps from HTCs and Samsungs store cost money…dont like them either I guess…hmmm not leaving you much of a choice.

          • @WhiteEvo6: I have nothing against paying for an app but on the iphone there always seems to be something else that you need to buy.

You have just spent $1000 on a phone you would think apple could throw in a few useful things like (for example) Nokia does with free navigation on phones which cost much less.

            • @anthony: Apple are in the phone business. They don't do navigation. Google have said they plan to bring their nav to the iPhone, and good for them. But I don't expect Apple to give me free navigation.

The only reason Nokia do it is to try and have some edge over Apple. It's not appealing to me.

  • Hard to choose between this and MetroView, although MetroView requires a data connection for speed limit information. Any advice?

    • +3

MetroView requires a data connection for speed limit information.

It should only need that for mobile traffic cameras.

Using the GPS data the application can work out how fast you are going, no data is needed for that.
The fixed speed cameras can be put in the map as they dont move so dont need constant updates.

Negatived for helping someone out. Thanks..

  • Thanks a lot. Will go for it tomorrow.

Does anyone know whether BigW has 2 x $20 itune card for $30? I can't find that in their catalogue.

  • Nice bargain.

I bought it about 2 months ago when it was $49.95?

Loving it. The BEST app I bought.

I just bought the panorama view to see what it's like. Why not since it's 50% off.

I don't know about TomTom for iPhone or any other GPS apps but this is the cheapest when it goes on sale.

I have no problem with Navigon except for a couple of areas with incorrect speed limits
    (which is lower than actual)

  • Is it available on Android? Where do I buy Android vouchers to buy apps?

    • Nah we get the gold standard of maps and nav thrown in for free with android. But yeah, keep tending your wallet garden.

      • I thought Google Android Navigation didn't work in Australia yet?? It doesn't on my Desire..and Whereis want $15-20 a month for it.

        • +1

the brut google maps version enables it for Australia. Of course it's not officially supported, so don't go driving into walls… :)

  • ha ha

  • nice finding, i'm currently downloading it from app store.

though some comments on app store mentioned that this version 1.6 has issues on OS 4. i hope it wont be the case now to sell it for cheaper price.

    • Version 1.6 on OS 4 works just fine.

      • thanks rickb, i'm still 3 hours away on downloading :-)

  • nice looking deal. shame… ive already got the TomTom app on mine. that works a charm for me though anyways…
and bravo op… really good 1st post

  • How do you get map updates? Are they free or do you have to repurchase a newer version of the app every time you want new map updates?

    • +2

The last iphone update from version 1.5 to 1.6 came with a free map update. Not saying this is how Navigon will do map updates in the future but that's how it happened with the previous app update.

  • I got this app the last time it was on sale. It's really good. Highly recommended. But keep in mind that you will probably want to mount your iPhone in your car, so there's a cost for that too (unless you already have a car mount).

As a comparison, I also got that cheap Navig8r GPS unit that was going around on here a while back. The Navigon app is 1000 times better. It's much more accurate and easier to understand.

  • Does it include map updates?

  • Can I choice the map - ie, i would to get NZ map with it instead default AU ?

    • +1

Just buy the NZ App. If you buy the Aussie app, you get the Aussie maps…funny that ;)

  • Where can I get a good cheap car mount for the iphone

  • great app, does anyone use the tom tom cradle with this, is it recommended ?

  • If I buy it, do I have to install it straight away?
OR can I leave it in iTunes limbo until my iPHone comes? haha.

Oh and is it just one device only? Or like can you put it on an ipad or something.

    • I think its per "Itune" account, so as long as you Sync your Ipad or other Iphones on the same itune account, you can have it on.

  • this is great !

works fantastic on my ipad and my iphone

  • Anyone else able to grab this today or has it expired?
