      • ah u r right, looks like it!

      • How much can we get pen for?

        • +1

          $95 at Microsoft store.

  • The i5 version in $1200

  • When you work at harveys and never look forward to cheap thursday cos everything is WAAAAY undercost hahaha. People always say were more expensive but were either the same or cheaper as other places. Anyways have fun shopping guys :D

"People always say were more expensive but were either the same or cheaper as other places"

You are a few days late for April fools!

      • Yh mate, we dont price match or anything… and lots of other stores are on ozbargain all the time haha.
Just kidding mate, I get where ur coming from, but what I said is true from what I see everyday

      • +1

That's because of lack of real marketing and a long memory

People are too use Harvey being 20% higher than other retailers that no one checks

          Actually I just hate Gerry

    • I got a Dyson damn cheap once. No one wanted to help me and the register chick put it under the name of a guy that had left.

    • HVN has had some good recent deals.
      Thank you Gerry!

  • Bought the Surface, ta.

  • Bought the Surface, ta.+1 Buy now and think later!

  • Thanks OP….brought the SP4…to upgrade my SP3 (so already have the Type 2 Keyboard)

  • Just wondering if a Surface Pro 3 from the US is a better deal?

    Thoughts: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-12-Inch-i5-4300U-Wi…

Just thinking of upgrading and the specs on this model seem for the most.. better.. for around $800.. but of course there are the warranty issues..

    • you should be able to register the warranty here, I had one from the US and it was replaced here under warranty. I'd go with the 8gb sp3!

      • My thoughts too, thanks!

    • just tried this " Sorry, this item can't be shipped to your selected address. Learn more. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order. "

      edit: only just noticed it's a SP3. :/

  • Thanks OP got the SP4. Now to get the accessories… anyone have recommendations on which cover/keyboard to get?

    • Surely the Microsoft official keyboard cover is the way to go

    • +2

Definitely the Type Cover 4. The Type Cover 3 is significantly cheaper and compatible, but far less comfortable to type on (IMO). You can get the TC4's quite cheap on eBay (seller is in NZ, but once you register the cover, you're still eligible for warranty/repairs in Aus from Microsoft ***from my experience buying from the UK, maybe do some more research to be sure). Like this listing, or if you want Fingerprint ID (can highly recommend), this for just a few $ more.

      • Agree with the SP4 being better, but the SP3 one can be found for 1/3rd the cost every now and then for a brand new one on eBay sellers too

At $50 vs $150, I know it's not worth a mechanical keyboard difference in price. The 3 is still a surprisingly good keyboard, it's just the 4 is actually a fantastic keyboard.

However at the moment I can't find the Type Cover 3 for less than $95 and in that case the type cover 4 is worth it over the 3 for the larger glass trackpad (it's amazing how much difference a few millimeters make on the usability), and better key presses.

Both of them unfortunately are made from the same material though. I would have thought by now there would be more of a demand for one with a solid finish that can be easily wiped down, instead of that felt that has a floppy edge.

  • JUst spoke to the IT guys at work they use these and said the battery life is nowhere near the 9 hours its rated at. you will only get half watching movies. Whereas an Ipad/mac actually gives you 9hours on a single charge.

    • Not ipad :)

Bought a Xiaomi Mi notebook Air 12.5 the other week for $650 delivered. Same specs really as the Surface Pro

    • Brand, quality, reliability…

      • Lol i have a billion xiaomi devices for the last couple.of years and no issues at all. And they are reliable in China and india. Same with build quality.

Unless you're a small business, who cares.

        • +1

billion xiaomi devices for the last couple.of years

Good for you as you only see specs…

Same specs really as the Surface Pro..

Really? You lost me there. I cant even see them to be similar speced even if you ignore BRAND!!!

2736 x 1824 on Surface vs Full HD ———-> that is a big difference in itself.
5 MP front vs 1.0MP front camera
          Local vs almost no warranty.
          0.7660 vs 1.075 kg
Windows 10 Pro vs Windows 10 Home ———-> Big difference
9 hours of video playback vs 6 hours

Comparing these two, I would buy Surface at that price any day and it will blow it anyday.

        • +1

@Gaggy: who uses a front camera except for Skype.

One year warranty for mine versus similar I'm guessing?

I see specs and why paying more for products that are similar or better in performance - that way fRees up more money for other activities / bills / beer cartons to spend on.

Lol windows SKU are not that different in real life to the average user unless you actually use the other stuff which most won't - yes I've used windows 10 pro, windows 7 ultimate yada yada ya.

Screen resolution better for sure, u got me on that one.

Battery life but no keyboard, which u didn't account for in the weight did u.

Specs i referred to processor and SSD - exact same processor, same Ram capacity and same SSD capacity.

          — I'm not saying which is better but rather suggesting options. Isn't that's what OzBargain is about??

        • Lol i have a billion xiaomi devices

Well I've owned one Xiaomi device and the USB port died within 2 weeks.

        • @PainToad: shit bad luck?

I'm not saying which is better but rather suggesting options. Isn't that's what OzBargain is about??

Fair enough. Well I think it to be a poor alternative, but hope someone will take benefit from your suggestion here.
You get what you paid for. Surface Pro is discounted and much better bang for buck. if I have to buy, I will get Pro without a doubt due to resolution and local warranty alone which compensates over $100.

        • @Gaggy:your opinion mate, others will say it's a reasonable alternative. It's all about warranty and specs versus local and they imported.

Choice and range is there, so ultimately the customer wins no matter which way they choose

    • Does it come with a pen? Can you even get a pen for it? How good is the pen for professional digital art production? Serious questions, would love to know

        • Please point me in the direction of answers to my questions about the Xiaomi Mi notebook Air in this thread… Check the post I was replying to.

  • Thanks OP, used officeworks to price beat the moto z play!

    • What made you choose the that over the Huawei if I may ask?

      • +2

Stock-ish Android 7.0, decent sw update turnaround, exceptional 3500mah battery life, dual sim, micro sd slot, moto mods.

And in general SD625+1080p amoled screen is a great with stock Android.

        • isn't the Huawei also dual sim?

        • +2

          @CVonC:

yes but its either sim2 or SD card. IE 2 slots total.

          Z play is 3 slots, 2x sim & 1x sd card.

Z play has a 2 day battery life, been using it since Dec '16 :D

  • Got one price matched from jbhifi. Got a type cover pm'd with officeworks. $875 all up! Not bad. Now to see if I need the pen.

    • Unless you are into note taking or drawing, I don't see much of a point for the pen. I used the pen heaps when I was at uni for note taking. Now it just stays stuck to the side with the occasional annotating of pictures. So it really depends on what you are going to use the surface for. Then again, there might be use cases of the pen that I am unaware of.

      • Is it a surface pro 4 pen?

I'm currently doing some study so am thinking it may be useful.

        • +1

Yeah its a surface pro 4 pen. I used the drawboard app that comes free with the surface to take notes on the lecture PDF's. We used to have blanks in the lecture files that required filling during the lecture. Decided to go this route instead of printing.

    • Good point! Price match! Missed this, otherwise, could save 5% more with JB gift card.

  • Why Officeworks is not selling Surface Pro anymore…

  • Bought the similar specced Lenovo ideatab with the keyboard thrown in for 600,stil a good deal after 6 months although haven't taken it out of the box

    • +1

although haven't taken it out of the box

And if you take it out of the box and it's DOA? Always check stuff you buy immediately so you can return for replacement rather than going through warranty.

      • It's a good idea, but I'd rather sell it sealed in the case I don't use it. The next person can deal with Lenovo directly.

  • Are the Netflix / Stan offline viewing features available on a Surface Pro tablet?

Just posted a new deal for the Surface Pro 4 Type Cover - $113.05 delivered: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/301084. Thought anyone that picked up a Surface here might be interested :)

  • Thanks OP. I was looking for a replacement for my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12 and I think this does the trick plus more at a good price. I haven't shopped instore at HN for a while and a visit today reminded me how painful the whole instore shopping experience is. Have to drive to the store, flag down a staff, wait for them to check stock, wait for them to key in all your contact details, put up with their purchase cover hard sell and then have to make small talk with the rep while they walk you over to the counter and queue up for payment. Next time, I'll just pay the few dollars shipping fee!

  • I've got an iPad Air 2, just gave my MacBook Pro to my partner since hers died and didn't want me to buy her a new one. Been thinking about buying myself a new laptop of some sort (just light usage, internet etc). Would the SP4 suit my needs? Or would I be better off just using the iPad full time?
I was originally looking at the Dell Inspiron 15" gaming deal that keeps popping up on the 20% eBay sales "just coz" but not too sure I'd need the insane specs it carries.

    • +1

For light use, it's good, as long as your comfortable leaving Apple's ecosystem. A lot of people aren't.

      • I've got a Note 4 so that's not an issue. Just never really looked at Surface Pros before :)

  • The problem of Surface Pro for me is really cannot use it as a Lap Top….

    • With hybrid devices, there are going to be tradeoffs.
