I have a friend who has one. 4 of them had faults and got replaced. Not worth it he told me.

I use to have a Z3 mini, great camera but got really hot all the time and battery was pretty bad.

Woohoo $170 off an already overpriced phone.

*an already outdated, superseded, overpriced phone.

From someone who has always used Ericsson/Sony Ericsson/Sony devices as my main handsets.
The Z5 was great, but expensive. It's now got X Performance, XZ, XZs, XZ Premium above it and arguably the X which you can buy under $500.

I'm done with Sony after the Z3. Updates take over a year and the camera is a POS. I just dont understand how my Iphone 5 takes better photos. I've seen the reviews, it looked like it can take some great shots so i dont get why mines so bad. If the lighting conditions are slightly less than optimal then photos look like shit. Judging from the reviews Sony are incompetent when it comes to writing camera software for even their own sensors or they just dont care. Paying 1k or even $500 for a phone with a sub par camera nowadays is a total rip off. Especially when the S7 is brilliant and Huawei are at least trying to innovate with new camera tech. Sony is just lazy.

    • My Z2 had tons of problems. Wouldn't buy a Sony phone after that experience.

      • Strange. I have a Sony phone the XA Ultra that i bought a few weeks ago for $299 from the Sony AU online sale and i have no problems with it.

        • My microphone stopped working. And the battery is pretty flakey. And the magnetic charging bit also stopped working. It could be do the 'water proof' functionality.

        • I have a family member who also got the XA Ultra from the same deal and is very happy with it.

Not a good deal considering age of device.

Caveat empor. My personal experience: I have an X performance I bought a few weeks ago at the Sony sales for $599 and the phone fell a metre to the ground, I wasn't careless I was on the bus it swerved suddenly and it fell from my pants pocket. The glass shattered (completely - spiderweb) but the LCD is fine problem is Sony has made it impossible to just replace the glass and not full glass-LCD-screen assembley. Phone king, phone hospitals and other kiosks and repairers won't repair, only Sony which is trying to ping me over $250. Luckily there are overseas phone kits but they are also LCD and glass though they cost around $100 on eBay + you have to wait four weeks for a arrival and find a repairer willing ahead having a go at replacing it.

BTW I typed this reply on the phone, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the LCD, so find it shocking they force you to pay for the most expensive past of the screen when all their customers need is a simple glass replacement which should cost under $120-100 on superseded models like the Z5 and X.

    • It's most probably because of the water resistance

    • Sorry about your bad fortune.

What are your thoughts on this phone as a "reasonably priced flagship"?

I'm still using mine ten days later, so perhaps they aren't all that bad. Just freezes occasionally.

  • I've had a z1 compact and the original Z. Both were fast and great phones when brand new but both died soon after the one year warranty. No more Sony phones for me.

The worst part about sony products in Australia is dealing with fonebiz in Sydney for repairs. What a horrible experience on what is considered a premium brand.

    • To be fair, it is problems with Fonebiz, not Sony. Other brands are using Fonebiz for support as well, all the same.

    • I avoid phones which need to be sent to that company for repairs.
They're useless. They damaged my phone while in for repair for a faulty microphone. They munched up the aluminium frame. Then when I sent it back because of the damage to the frame, they told me it was user damage and I'd need to pay $400 to fix it.
Had to go through the manufacturer's team to get them to fix it. Again.

I've always been a big sony fan, but I won't be buying again until they improve big time. I've never had a phone glass break so easily, and you've got front and back glass to increase your chances of breaking.

    • Yep cracked the rear glass twice! Never getting a phone with rear glass a again! I think it's your the NFC but I never use it.

      • Same here. Broke it from about a 20cm drop got it fixed, broke it again from I'm pretty sure just being in my pocket. On the other hand I have a Redmi note 3 that has taken a punishing and still going strong, just wish it were waterproof

    • What has your clumsiness have to do with Sony and their products?

      • -1

Hows is it clumsy leaving it in my pocket and from that it breaks? Where do you keep your phone…I can think of one place with that attitude.

        • Oh I'm sure it was in your pocket when the glass just magically broke by itself, with no force whatsoever.

@cdestratis: I'm glad you agree. That was pretty stupid of you to disagree in the first place. Learn from your mistakes, not just from birth.

        • @bonjovi:

Nice one, and good attempt at convincing strangers on the internet that your phone's glass broke itself though.

        • @cdestratis: i know you are but what am i?

        • @bonjovi: Youth by the sounds of it.

        • @cdestratis: takes one to know one.

        • @bonjovi: The hits just keep on coming, first you're telling everyone a fairy-tale, now you're using school-yard tactics.

@cdestratis: roflharris. Why you mad bro?

  • Jeez what a dick
