Toshiba Canvio Basics 2TB Portable USB3 HDD $89 Delivered

Further $10 off the current deal price.

Toshiba Canvio Ready 3TB Portable Hard Drive $129 Delivered

Further $10 off the long running $139 deal.

Toshiba Canvio Simple 1TB Portable Hard Drive $67 Delivered

Good price for a reliable portable HDD if you don't need 2TB.

Chromecast Ultra $89 Delivered

$1 more than the previous Harvey Norman deal but with free express postage.

The main advantages of the Chromecast Ultra over the Chromecast 2 is that it supports 4K streaming and has a wired ethernet port. If you want a Chromecast but don't have a 4K TV or 4K streaming/HDR isn't important to you (some may like to future proof), then you can just get a Chromecast 2 for $30 or so cheaper than the Ultra (or even cheaper when a deal is on).

Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2 Wireless Headset Black $189 Delivered OUT OF STOCK

Originally $299, further $10 off the $199 deal.

8 x Dolce Gusto Pods 16pk $56 ($7/box) Delivered

Purchase any 2 bulk buy deals in flavours of your choice, with the bulk buy discount and $10 off it makes 8 boxes $56 which works out to $7 a box (Usual price $8.49/box) which is a good buy. See this comment for Dolce Gusto owners.

  • That's a great price for the BackBeat Pro 2!

Toshiba Canvio Ready 3TB Portable Hard Drive $129 Delivered

Based on my experience with one purchased in a recent deal, these have an aggressive built-in sleep mode that ignores the OS setting and spins down the drive after about four minutes of inactivity. Not head-parking, but a full spin-down that introduces a ~6 second delay before the drive becomes accessible again. Can get very annoying if you use the drive in a way that means repeatedly encountering this delay.

There's a workaround via CrystalDiskInfo, but it only functions if the program's left running in the background.

    • Great feedback - thanks.

I'm looking to use as a 'run a nightly backup' drive, so shouldn't be a problem.

    • +1

CrystalDiskInfo didn't work for me. Nothing has worked for me. My Toshiba 2TB portable drive will go to sleep at will regardless of any software or activity.

If I could go back in time, I wouldn't assassinate Hitler, pursue "the one that got away" or any of that crap. I'd go back to when I first laid eyes on this narcoleptic terror and buy something - anything - else.

      Toshiba drives are evil.

Thx hamza, old hdd broke last week so perfect timing!

  • BTW, I was after two HDDs, so purchased in separate transactions of $89.

  • I can't seem to find the opportunity to put in the "CHOCCY" voucher code before being taken to the PayPal page (which looks like it's going to charge the price before the $10 discount). Is this a process or have I missed where I should put in the voucher code?

    • Give me 2 minutes, I'll show you a screenshot.

        Give me 2 minutes

You took 4 that's not good enough.
Give me back your mod badge.

      Here you go

Add the item to cart then go to checkout to reach that screen, then:

      (1) Enter CHOCCY down the bottom, you'll see $10 off the price (2) Login to PayPal (3) Make sure $10 is off the total, click confirm and pay

      • Is the voucher code entered BEFORE clicking the green "Pay with PayPal" button? If so, i cannot see the voucher code entry option at the bottom?

        • The voucher code box will show immediately, before you've logged into PayPal. That's strange you can't see it, I'm not sure of any green button either? Your eBay account wasn't registered overseas or anything? Might need to contact eBay and ask, I think they have a live chat somewhere.

        • @hamza23: I just realised what was happening…. I was somehow directed to the Officeworks page rather than the ebay page. Now that I've started again and staying in ebay, I can enter the code. Thanks very much for your help. Much appreciated.

        • @josephp:

          Ah! No probs.

for the Toshiba Canvio Basics 2TB Portable USB3 HDD

You can also buy the ebay voucher on groupon:
    https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/ebay-au-2

So, the cost of the item is $85 instead of $89.
and you still have $1 to spend on another item in ebay :p

    • CMIIW but ebay would only allow you to use one code for the purchase and the Groupon ebay voucher is considered a voucher too, ie. it would be either the Groupon voucher or CHOCCY $10 off but not both.

      • +1

Yup, but with groupon you can get the harddsik for $85
using the CHOCCY code, it only brings down the price to $89.

so you can save another 4$.

Looking at using this as an expansion external HDD for my PS4/XBONE but pretty concerned on the 'sleep mode' as noted above by Jabba the Hutt (and workaround is moot for consoles I'm guessing). I was wondering if anyone would have any experience using this drive with the consoles and if they have had any issues? I did use a Toshiba drive with my PS3 years back and it was to a point where if I were to pause a game that I was playing for more than 5 mins, then due to the sleep mode function of the ext. hdd, it would cause the game and console to freeze.

  • Ha, when I read Chromecast U I thought Google released a new Chromecast.

    • Haha ah yeah true, I ran out of characters but messed around with it now to make it clearer.

      • +1

Thanks now it's much more clearer…

  • What is the difference between the Backbeat Pro 2 and the Backbeat Pro 2 SE?

  • That's a pretty good bargain!

  • I assume these comments are correct in that these drives aren't internally SATA drives?

    • Thanks for posting this, I was considering putting these into a NAS

  • I remember when Nescafรฉ ran a 2 for 1 pod sale. I bought up big.

    No such crazy bargains since.

  • Can you use two coupons in one transaction?

    Canvio now offers another 5% off? ( C5AUS )

    Or, no stacking allowed?

    ?

    • No stacking allowed, only 1 coupon per transaction. So this CHOCCY code is best ($89 instead of $94.05 with C5AUS).

      • The groupon/ebay deal is better at $85.

  • Officeworks delivery is amazing. Ordered 6PM Wednesday, delivered 11AM Thursday!
