Hi Ozbargain

You are not going to answer which is better, you will answer which is more popular. I vote Pizza

As far as personal taste go, which one would you choose? I think that will be the results of the poll here, wont be decisive or anything. And mind you all, all the vietnamese foods here are pretty warped, just not as great, lol. I am Viet so I should know. Don't know if the same goes for Thai, but I prefer Thai here.

So… what is this thread supposed to achieve again?

    • +2

To see which cuisine ozbargain prefers :)

      • +6

I think I can speak for all of us on this; Ozbargain prefers cheap cuisine, everything else is irrelevant c:

        • +2

id like to think ozbargain has matured and now prefers food on a price to performance ratio :)

        • @Kapinny:

          price to performance ratio :)

Are we still talking about food or economics? :o

        • +3

          @Baebs:

for me the economics of food are certainly part of my daily routine ;)

  • +3

I like good food, period, and wouldn't give up either cuisine.

  • +3

As the Mexicans say…… Why not have both?

    • +3

      por que nos las dos!

    • +1

      Or all three.

      • +2

        Por que no los tres?

  • Depends on whether the one who's cooking knows what s/he's doing or not.

I feel Thai food is more acidic and spicy. It has a far richer flavour profile. It uses more rice in dishes vs Vietnamese which are race-based ingredients (Eg. Noodles). I prefer the diversity and ingredients of Thai cooking better.

Don't quite agree with entrails / blood cubes etc. Though each to their own. A couple of my friends love blood cubes and liver / kidney etc. I don't know how, but they do!

    • Cheers aromatase, do you do the thai chicken steam boat broth!??!

      • Definitely, one of my favorites.
Are you based in Perth kapinny?

One of my favorite Thai restaurants was this one called Joondalup city Thai. Haven't been in a while but I absolutely loved it though.

        • Oh i heard of that one! ive been a few times and the owners son looked like he had some form of chronic halitosis.. u know the guy?

        • @Kapinny:lol so harsh! Haha, I do remember a young tall Asian boy (presumed son or relative of owners / 457 visa) who was always very friendly though hahah.

  • tie food

  • Vietnamese food has: Com Tam Suon Cha Trung which is like the most amazing food for me, and its always cheap for some reason. So Vietnamese for me!

    Vietnam Thai food.same same

Was going to make same comment, have a +1

  • If only Thai food had the rich influence of the French like Vietnamese cuisine.

  • +2

Thai… but then… you can wake me for a bahn mi…

    • Banh Mi

      • Are you suggesting we should ban you?? ;)

        • Are you suggesting you have the power to so so

  • +1

I would have to say Vietnamese only because it was my first love. When I first had a pho and banh mi and spring roll with nuoc cham spicy sweet and sour slightly fishy sauce I died and went to heaven.. also I find vietnamese restaurants do Chinese cuisines like satay chicken much better than the Thai peanut variety. But both cuisines are so bomb this is like choosing between cheese fried chips or cheese fried with bacon chips.. gahhh.

Also where is the option for "por que no los dos?"

Gotta alternate the two parties otherwise you miss out on one.

  • +1

    KFC

  • +3

Why does one have to be better ? why cant they both be great independent of each other. I love both.

  • +2

Seems like thai in the lead haha.

I'm curious as to the racial demographic of OzB.

Asians are sterotyped as stingy , but I what ethnicities are are fellow ozb's are.

    • +1

      We're all Dutch, Scottish or Asian… ;)

  • it's like comparing apples and oranges

  • +1

Some extremely decent Vietnamese dishes (banh mi, pho) but Thai food leaves it for dead

  • -1

Both of them are too full of MSG - Monosodium Glutamate. Not really healthy for me. I prefer Subway. LOL
    I vote for Korean food.

    • haha if you think Korean food dosent have MSG.. you're in for a rude awakening (source: i have may korean friends )

  • Although I'm a massive fan of both. A good Pho Tai Nam (Sliced beef and brisket) is up there with the best dishes in the world. Must give a shout out to I Love Pho on Victoria Street (Victoria). I've been to Vietnam lots of times and pretty much every place in Melbourne and this place hits the spot every time. Perfect pre-footy belly warmer!!!

  • Thai food is great.
