Catch of the Day

Why do I still check this site? They just sell so much crap.

A couple of months ago I remember being very happy with a couple of purchases, but it's been ages since I've seen them post something with real appeal.

Do others agree, or am I just hard to please?

  • Got a netbook from them not long ago. Very pleased with the purchase. What stuff appeals to you anyway?

  • agree - most of the time it is sheet sets or something, followed by extended 'catchathons' regurgitating the unsold garbage of previous days. Occasionally - very occasionally - a good laptop or something appears.

I used to love the site… not so anymore. www.1-day.com.au is better.

  • The thing is, 1-day used to be good too, but now it seems to have similar crap to COTD.

I guess once they have enough customers there is no reason to sell bargains.

    Take this for example

2 months ago Aldi has this for $99 http://aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_14120.htm

    Today 1-Day have it for $119.99. http://www.1-day.com.au/products/GHMAKN01R
My guess is they purchased all they could and waited a while hoping people would forget.

In addition these have been at many Aldi's below $99 which means they could be making even more.

    • +1

I bought one of those for $69 about 4 months ago.. I reckon they might have got some of that same stock from the wholesale supplier and are now selling them for double.

It's kinda like chemist warehouse here in Brisbane. People expect that because "they wont be beaten on price" and they have warehouse in the name that it is actually cheap, when in fact is the same price or more expensive then the super markets.

COTD are doing the same. They are using their brand to sell with higher profit margins, to people who just assume that because it's a bargain site it will be cheap.

      Quoted for truth.

Like most stores, they start off very cheap and once they get market dominance they can increase margins.

  • i think the same about ozstock it used to be some cool things , its all crap now

cotd has always been crap of the day for me except the rare netbook bargain

  • +1 stellaoriens

  • I agree, their 'Catchathons' are essentially a walk into a Sam's Warehouse. Full of useless novelty items and licensed (yet poorly manufactured) children's products.

  • Looking through today's "warehouse sale", most of it is shit like the "potty putter" and "Ms Naughty". They did have a cheap Logitech VX Nano (wireless laptop mouse) but it was sold out. Also a Philips universal remote.

So every couple of days or weeks they have a thing going that's a genuine bargain, but most days (for the last few months at least) it's all just trash. Really a pity.
