Bunnings has a similar Ryobi unit for $248 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/303291

Again they are price matching Aldi. Support the guys that offered it first (if still available).

Support the guys that offered it first

        Why? It's a different brand.

I agree, Bunnings are nothing but parasites that will do everything they can to destroy competition and the ACCC sits back and watches with glee.

    • does ryobi make a 18v toilet suction unit? they seem to make everything else.

Ryobi is a 5 tonner… This one at 6.5 has more poke.

Why should the weight of the machine matter ?

        • +3

LOL!!! It doesn't weigh that much. It pushes that much.

        • @The Araldited Wallet:

          It pushes that much.

It can split 6.5 tonne of wood in one go ?

        • +2

@jv: Can deliver 6.5 tonnes of force in one blow (roughly 670N force)

        • @btst7000:

Can deliver 6.5 tonnes of force

A tonne is a unit of mass, not force

        • @btst7000:

          Correction please: 6.5 tonnes = 6,500 kg = 63,700 Newtons of Force.

          Please don't feed him.

      • This one at 6.5 has more poke.

More poke is always good, my dad taught me that many moons ago.

You can never have enough poke, ever.

        • More poke is always good

          especially on Mondays.

PokeMon is much better than PokeTue !!!

        • Not literally I hope …

Maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are equal in what they can do.

Actually, it looks identicle except for colour and the wheels. All other components look exactly the same.

Aldi have 5 year warranty on theirs and ryobi is only 2 years, so Aldi looks the better deal based on that alone. Ryobi is a good backup assuming Aldi sell out straight away.

If bunnings were serious about price matching they would offer this for $248

Will buy this Saturday and work its guts out over the weekend with left over logs I couldn't split by hand. It it gets thru the weekend it stays if not it gets flogged a bit more and returned for a full refund.

Did you pick your wife the same way?

        Still going strong.

Bought this early this morning and it's a good piece of gear. Definitely worth the $250. Not sure how many are going to be left as there wasn't many left at my local store.

    • Same, and just split my winter pile no worries. One thing i'll be doing is to make the splitter razor sharp to aid splitting. Also going to make a 4way splitter for future use as well.
Very good machine for the money.
      Highly recommended.

Really? I took mine bad within 30 mins of splitting. It struggled on knotted wood (where there are forks and branches). One of those little black guides things almost broke off completely (quite loose). I found the main ram (the one that pushed the logs) twists a fair bit when under load. This stopped the return function from working completely until I "helped" it along with a sledgehammer. Honestly, this is only good for splitting wood that you could have split with hand splitter anyway.

  • I agree this is the worst piece of crap I have ever bought, failed on the third use, had the same issue with the ram twisting and sticking.
Then whilst using it I noticed the bloody hydronic piston was bending as it came out of the machine. I hopefully have not thrown away the receipt !
Will NEVER buy from Aldi EVER again.
As the saying goes if it's too good to be true it is, cheap because it's crap!!
And for reference was not a massive log but obviously a hard wood because it didn't split instantly.
