Brave soul who lays down 822 clams on gearbust.

Bought mi notebook air 12.5 last month for 650 from banggood. Would have bought this Cube one had I known it was coming out. No issues with xiaomi.

      • Just wondering if you got a Windows 10 Single Language License and managed to switch it to English or if you paid for a new license? I have been interested in the Mi Notebook Air 12.5 but have been put off by the chinese single language windows it is meant to ship with

        • +1

This is private message territory now at how easy it was

    • +1

I've never had an issue with them … provided I took note of the very long ETA's for some shipping options.

    • +1

Apart from the screen and maybe the SSD it's quite low spec anyway.

Why not just get something like a Lenovo Ideapad 700 from Amazon for a similar price point which is actually capable of playing games, and has a warranty if it dies rather that being completely screwed sending it back to such a notorious shop hoping for the best..

  • +3

At this price point I would probably just buy the core m surface 4 from jb or something from the ebay e.g lenovo miix For 800 you want core m

    • +3

For those wanting to know some differencs the Surface core m is 6th gen vs cube 7th gen. Apparently 15% better performance. Surface doesn't have key board and and has half the ram and hard disk in the model with a similar price to the cube.

      • Correct not to mention lower resolution screen. Microsoft haven't release an update for a year and a half now and should be worried.

        • @sillywalks: read that the other day. Never would buy a Microsoft product anyway, always went ASUS or Xiaomi when it came to laptops or phones. Not to mention the worst repairability score when it came to Surfaces breaking.

        • +2

@sillywalks: Considering they just outsold Apple in tablets at ludicrous prices I'm sure they're shitting themselves.

      • It's comparing this laptop with those tablets. Similar in specs but also quite different.

Surface has a keyboard but it's not required, in contrast with a laptop.

The Cube Mix Plus is a better buy imo. https://www.banggood.com/Cube-Mix-Plus-128GB-Intel-Kaby-Lake…
    About 400aud after discounts.

For this price i'd wait for a sale and get Xiaomi Notebook 13.

Na mate half the RAM and SSD and non laminated screen. No keyboard in that price too and also only 1080p screen not the surface book screen like this one has. This is a ripper.

That being said the cube mix plus is another option and it's always good to have options

  • There's also the option of Chuwi Hi13 who want the surface book screen but only celeron processor. Non laminated screen though.

There's the Chuwi Lapbook 12.3 coming and Chuwi Surbook too. The Chinese brands are getting quite good at this and personally stuff Microsoft. I can understand warranty concerns but yeah for those that aren't , here we are.

  • TechTablets Cube Thinker i35 overview: https://techtablets.com/2017/04/cube-thinker-i35-unboxing-ha… (ignore the 'unboxing' in the url)

TechTablets Cube Thinker i35 thermal mod: https://techtablets.com/2017/04/cube-thinker-i35-surface-pen… (shouldn't need it unless you're gaming for hours on the thing)

TechTablet's list of features is a bit easier to read:

    • Supports the Microsoft Surface Pen (Stylus) N-Trig, so the panel stylus digitzer tec is even the same as the Surface Book.
    • Fully laminated display with scratch resistant glass. – I think it is dragon tail or some other Chinese brand.
    • 8GB of DDR3 1866Mhz RAM + Core M3-7Y30 with Intel HD 615 GPU.
    • 240GB SSD (Unknown brand)
    • Windows 10 Chinese single language edition.
    • It’s 1.6 kilos, feels a little heavy, but I’m fine with it as the build is really solid and well done
    • It’s thin and the screen goes back almost 180 degrees.
    • The screen hinge is very tight, doesn’t feel all loose. Tapping on the screen does make it move a little but this happens on any touch notebook.
    • All the ports power external HDD’s (1TB tested)
    • Type-C port can be used to charge the Thinker, data, display all working and at the same time, so perfect for a one port docking setup with Type-C hub.
    • The bottom plate is screwed in place firmly, 4 rubber feet.
    • The fingerprint reader works well once you set up a pin and Windows Hello.
    • The touchpad feels okay, not as good as my Mi Notebooks. But I feel it’s not too bad
    • The keyboard is decent, approx 1.3mm of travel. Not quite as good as the Mi Notebook 12’s keyboard. Still decent, however.
    • The keyboard flex is minimal, not an issue.
    • The web camera is 2MP 720p 30fps. Quality seems good.
    • 3.5mm jack supports mics and so far the audio is loud and clean (No static)
    • Running the Windows 10 Chinese to Windows 10 Pro upgrade, the laptop did get quite warm to the touch.
    • Speakers have a tiny hint of bass. Loudness is okay. They aren’t great, but much better than the Hi13 or Mix Plus
    • The speakers are located above the keyboard.
    • Dual mic’s on either side of the screen, great to see the mic away from the keyboard (Less keyboard typing noise then)

Could also look at the Samsung Galaxy tab Pro S. Pricing can be under $800 these days. Am quite happy with the one I bought. Very light, keyboard included and does the job of a portable web / media player.

    • I would have bought this in an instant if the storage was expandable. No SD card slot? Come on…

      • what are you storing on the device?

i've got a usb c thumb drive i can plug in easily enough and bought the usb c hub with a usbc 3 and hdmi port on it.

love have a fully function laptop with a charger the same size as one for a mobile.

        • SQL Databases for work. Hub and external drive is fine but not exactly convenient when i need to travel. Tab Pro S is great because it feels like a real tablet.
