Qualified Qantas Purchase for Westpac Altitude Qantas Lounge Pass

Hi guys,

Just wondering for those that have made qualified qantas purchase for their Westpac's lounge passes, what type of purchases did you make? and how long did it take until you got your passes?

I was reading about long dated domestic return flights that are fully refundable? Need some idea cheers.

  • Try this

    • Thanks. I saw, that's why I said I was reading about it. But I've PMed the guy (PissLUR) and he said he hasn't even got his pass and it's been 6 weeks for him so was wondering if anyone has successfully done that.

      • I did it last time I got a Westpac card. I had to chase them a lot. Apparently they ran out of stock or something. Just keep at them.

        • So you bought domestic return business class? What did you buy mate? Is the the flexi type? Apologies for the 'dumb' questions.

@tajid: Yep, I bought a long-dated ADL-MEL business class one-way ticket. Then when I (finally) got my passes, I cancelled.

@brazen00: how long does it take for you to receive the invitation after your spending?

@SnoozeAndLose: I got the passes today(29/01/2019) for the purchase on 18/01/2019.

Now wondering how long I should wait before cancelling.

              • @FirstWizard: so you will receive an email for the invitiation or you find our by yourself?

                • +1

@SnoozeAndLose: Got an email this morning titled "FirstWizard, your Qantas Club Complimentary Lounge Invitations are ready"

                  • @FirstWizard: ok let me make some purchase too
Thankyou very much for your resposne

                    • @SnoozeAndLose: I basically got a fully refundable Business class domestic flight for next year.

Will wait for the statement to come and then cancel the flight I guess.

              • @FirstWizard: Do you get a full refund, or only a qantas credit?

                • @tunzafun001: I got a full refund.
They even refunded the card processing fee.

                  • @FirstWizard: OK, I remember reading some were getting caught out with the business class refunds getting a voucher instead. So buying a bottle of Scotch with points + cash via the qantas store, or epiqure purchases dont count?

                    • @tunzafun001: I don't think so. The terms and conditions are pretty clear that it has to be an airfare product or club access fees.

From experience I can confirm that Qantas wine and Qantas Insurance do not count.

Furthermore, I should say that if you're using your Qantas points for buying anything else than flights or upgrades, you're basically getting the worst value out of them.

Selected Qantas products and services are the following items purchased directly from Qantas: Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar, Qantas Holidays, Qantas branded non-airfare products and any Qantas products and services not purchased directly from Qantas.

                      • @FirstWizard: Okee dokes. Business flight it is then.
Just recently booked a qantas flight as well (but used platinum edge as you need to book flights to activate insurance).

                        • @tunzafun001: check if you can pay something like the carbon offset (usually around $2) or seat booking fee on the other card ;)

                          • @FirstWizard: Good idea. Will try

                          • @FirstWizard: I can confirm that this works. I have done this with both my wife's and my own Altitude Black cards and have received the two lounge passes for both cards.
Can be done at this website:
                            https://www.qantasfutureplanet.com.au

Just plug in the shortest flight that you can find that calculates the carbon offset by more than $1. Brisbane to Sydney for example, you don't have to actually be booked on the flight.

Make sure you have registered your card first though, otherwise you will have to do it again like I did once.

                            • @Helmutson: Thanks for the info! That's great news for anyone with the card!

  • just bought my ADL-MEL business class one way today for november 1st ;)

    • Just a standard business class flight, booked online or call centre? Refunded via a call to the call centre, or all online?

  • hey guys, are we eligible for the qantas passes once every calendar year?
I'm assuming yes "Each year you will receive two complimentary lounge invitations once you have made the required spend on selected Qantas products and services."

but concerned given I made my last eligible purchase in December-2016 and want to do another purchase now as opposed to December-2017?

  • Remember you have to register your participant in the program first then make a qualifying spend. This is the link for the Black Card Holders https://loungepass.altitudeblack.com.au/default.aspx?appActi…

The qualifying spend is then easy to achieve. I always get mine on my work trips by paying for an exit row seat. I got the email from Westpac within about 2 weeks confirming the passes have been allocated to my Qantas account.
