      oops wrong reply area…

      • Thanks 492Kw

I believe I have solved the problem - my apologies. The inability to stack discounts vouchers makes the shipping arrangement rather irritating, but free midas shipping should appear now :)

Theres a number of gamers out there purchasing these to pirate Nintendo amiibos.

Just FYI! You need NTAG215's for that ;)

      Howdy Abukee,

Without the mumbo-jumbo, the most common use by far is to 'talk' to NFC phones. What is says exactly, is up to your imagination and 144bytes (on these tags, typically range between 144b- 888b in size).
By using an NFC encoding App (I would recommend Tagwriter from NXP for the tech-savvy or NFCtool/Tasks from WakDev for a good UI) you encode data or commands to this sticker.

A few quick examples of end products would be
      - Place on a store sign to automatically direct people to like your facebook page
      - Place on business card to automatically upload your digital business card to a phone
      - Dropbox links on a sticker
      - Switch phone to 'mode' depending on if your in car, plane, etc
      - IoT food and water intake tracking, by sending a URL webhook to update my google spreadsheet

Personally I use the midas for hiding in things, for example I scan my watch and it automatically connects my bluetooth headset and plays Soundcloud, when it passes the tag on my pocket it unlocks the phone with it, when I tap my left cuff it automatically unlock and opens my notepad and right cuff for unlock and google. These tags aren't waterproof, so it wouldn't be great for hiding in clothing, but this is just an example of NFC uses :)

      • thanks for the explanation here's a plus from me

    • I had one near my front door of my house and when I activated it with my phone it would turn on my computer. You can do a lot of automation with them.

Automating WoL is a great use!

If anyones interested, you can also let people connect to your wifi this way without revealing password :)

        • that's amazing

  • The shipping isn't being discounted

Please fix. Was just about to order.

    • Thanks for feedback, will fix ASAP.
We can't stack vouchers to remove things like that, its a nightmare.

    • All sorted! Thanks for keeping us on our toes!

      • THanks. Working now. Ordered.

  • +2

Thanks. Bought one. Plan to stick it on important items that can be lost and I can program my contact information on it (such as work laptop).

    • +1

I do that myself! However, if you experience difficulties it may be because the metal in the laptop :(
Metal can predictably interfere with RFID - if thats the case a 'On-metal' tag would be recommended. These are produced with a layer of ferrite which stops the interference.

If you can send an email to [email protected] with your order number Ill send a ferrite layered sample tag out just in case ;)

      • Thanks! Unfortunately looks like order's already been shipped :( Next time!

  • Is there iOS support or just android?

    • Unfortunately iOS has locked down their NFC tech so its not for public use :(

However in passing, I recently have heard of pre-iPhone 6's being jailbroken and subsequently they got the NFC working.

Alternatively, there are plug-ins, desktop readers and standalone readers but I thats for more corporate and mass inventory uses

  • So for example, with LIFX bulbs, could I stick one of these near a door and program the light to turn on as I enter and off as I depart?

    • +1

This would work in theory - I've done some similar things. You would set up the LIFX within IFTTT (Highly recommend exploring if your a bit of a geek) and subsequently encode a webhook on the NFC tag to trigger the lights.
My reservation would be in the IFTTT response time - its usually instant but occasionally Ive had delays on the web hook.
On paper, it will work no problem but as it uses online services we would be at the mercy of the connection.

  • Looks like a fun thing to play around with. I'm in! Thanks!

    • Thanks Steichten, enjoy your tags! :D
