  • How is this different from the version of Outlook you get from Office 365 ?

      • If by Outlook you mean "Outlook Web Access" (ie. the one you login to via https://outlook.office365.com) then I guess there's no difference.

      • If by Outlook you mean "Outlook 2016" (as in Windows software) then I'd say that this is not included in the current Outlook Premium offer.

In other words, what you'd get is a [email protected] email address without ads.

      • In addition, you also have the option of using your own domain (so you may have, say, [email protected] plus 4 other additional recipients).

tl;dr: this is something similar to an "Exchange Online" type of service.

      • But I already get Outlook as part of Office 365, and use my own email on my own domain in it, without ads. Why would I pay $20 (or $50) per year for this?

        • You'd pay for this service only if you didn't care, need or use the Microsoft Office software suite (and 1TB OneDrive).

Personal opinion: for $20 possibly worth (especially if you own a domain). At $50 its value is questionable (b/c you may find $49 Office 365 bargains).

        • Used to be the only reason you don't get ads is because of an adblocker.

As I discovered a few years back Office 365(stupidly) didnt come without ads with the online version cuz technically you get full blown outlook and can use that. At least that's what there old forums said.

Ad-free outlook.com was a separate product but…. That may have changed recently. I'll disable my adblocker and check.

      • If by Outlook you mean "Outlook Web Access" (ie. the one you login to via https://outlook.office365.com) then I guess there's no difference.

This is a login for a school or work account? Is there a login link for a personal account?

  • I think that's USD.

    • Yes, this is US pricing.

When you get to the billing page, the price changes to AU$37.95. Terms are:

You will be charged 37.95 AUD/yr today. Your subscription(s) will auto-renew annually at 37.95 AUD/yr (Outlook.com Premium). You will be notified if the price changes; cancel at any time at https://premium.outlook.com. Refund only available if cancelled within one month from purchase. Custom Domain subscriptions are not available on a stand-alone basis; a concurrent Outlook.com Premium subscription is required. Your subscription is subject to the Microsoft Service Agreement.

So it's a little more expensive compared to the US deal, but it will renew at that price, allegedly.

What's the problem with using an ad blocker?

I'm holding back the temptation of checking I'm associated with Outlook.com and posting "Run /sfc scannow"

  • $20 to remove ads if you have a free outlook.com email address… Or just use an adblocker.
