  • Can you play kodi through this?

    • Not for long the way it looks. But, yes it's kodi capable

      • +2

Not for long the way it looks? Please explain

        • -6

Most of the add ons are getting shut down lately. There's plenty left but no one knows for how long

        • No support. If you want Kodi, get hardware that supports kodi, or is supported by someone in the Kodi community, i.e. S905(x) .

And then ditch Android for LibreElec.

Unless you want Netflix etc, in which case get real Android TV - Mi Box or Nvidia Shield.

    • yes and netflix player ….. get them from the google play store.

2x units …… that's cheap …….. replace these when new version of android comes out anyway.

  • +9

rock chip rk3229… steer clear. Trust me guys!

    S905 or S905X only.

    • Do you mind sharing one? Basic use only with min LAN cable connectivity not just wifi - and use for youtube only.

    • The TX3 uses S905X

        • Yeah I have that. Can't say anything about 4K.

The more memory the higher the cost.

You might find 2GB/8GB in another brand around the same price though.

        • @Steptoe:
No benefit for 2GB with Kodi. Maybe for some games? Certainly for Chrome, but who wants that on a TV box?

        • @manic:
If you only want Kodi, sure.

I also use Mobdro and a few other apps, so it's nearly full. Only about $10 difference, not 🐑 stations

        • @Steptoe:

Nearly full? Sounds like you are talking about flash storage, not RAM.
Its worth having a dedicated non-Android Kodi box, so why not get both?

        • @manic:
Maybe I need something to better manage RAM 🐑 as a reboot makes it run better when it gets laggy.

        • @Steptoe:
          Are you using Android then?
          LibreElec is better.

        • @manic:
          Yeah 6.x
          Mobdro needs Android AFAIK

        • @Steptoe:

sorry for confusion. For anyone else:
          1GB S905 for pure Kodi.
Best to have 2GB for Android TV box.

best cheap Android box by far is the Mi Box, which by coincidence also uses S905.

        • @manic:
By coincidence my MiBox has arrived from previous deal.

Just need cheapo option for tightarse relos and friends.

    • Any suggestions with 2gb ram and 16 GB storage. Dual band wifi support as well
      Thanks

      • +1

This is only $9. Good luck receiving anything though.

          Step 1) buy it now
          Step 2) wait
          Step 3) start ebay/paypal dispute

        • @masuta:
Check the conditions of having any kind of PayPal protection though… from memory the seller needs to be based in AU, have over 50 positive feedback and a few other things.

I think with this listing your money is gone.

        • Item location Australia. Free shipping from China???

        • @rifter:
It's a copy and paste of someone's listing.

  • Sweet got 2

Whilst I haven't heard of this one, there are hundreds of these cheap boxes on the market promising the world but they most have terrible software and no support (don't expect updates or bug fixes). You are better off getting a more popular one with proven support (mi box for example).

  • Is this better than a Nvidia Shield Tv?

    • +6

      No.

  • I got the mibox for $20 more from lightinabox which is probably the smarter choice..

Nvm just realised it's 2x. But still i prefer mi

    • You will have a lot more support with MI - in addition the HD Netflix

  • No stock for au plug :(

    • +1

5V 2A supply with AU pins is $4 on eBay.

    • +1

You can use any Android phone adapter. Or get one from Aliexpress or eBay for a dollar

      • +1

No you cannot. These boxes do not use micro-usb for power.

    • +1

Most sellers will include the plug required for where they are posting.

    • +1

use a pair of pliers and bend the US plugs at a slight angle.. works for me, the ''free'' AU plug adaptors are usually loose and don't make a secure connection I've found.

      • use a pair of pliers and bend the US plugs

A 1/4" bolt also makes a handy fuse replacement.
And used cooking oil makes for budget-friendly brake fluid.

        • I get your point but what he's suggesting is probably safer than most of the adaptors being used in Aussie homes.

        • @gimme:
I'd prefer a loose connection to one that breaks off and protrudes live from the socket.

        • @manic: if you're bending the prongs hard enough to break then you're doing it too hard (common sense).

        • @gizmomelb:

Your "common sense" has betrayed you. That is not what happens. The plastic holding them breaks. Placing such faith in your instinct is dangerous.
I've seen it happen. Backpackers and overseas students seem to be the usual culprits.
Actually, if "common sense" was real, people would not try this.

        • @manic: so if the plastic cracked / broke from bending the poles, then common sense again would tell you not use the thing.

But as you say common sense is anything but.

So best answer is buy a new power supply locally.

        • @gizmomelb:

          Where from?

The eBay power supplies are generally OK.
I would not know where to buy one locally.

I suppose you could get a USB supply (from the junk drawer?) and a USB->5.5mm DC jack cable from ebay.
