any artificial grass deals? that'd be even more helpful! ;-)

  • Perfect timing, looking at getting some for the new place. Damn carpet!

    • +1

We just got all our carpet ripped out and tiled most of the house. No regrets. It wasn't even all that expensive (tiler was a local Vietnamese guy that the tile shop recommended).

      • +14

Did you also concrete your entire front & back yards?

        • Why would I do that? Is this some sort of stereotype I should know of?

        • +1

          he tiled it maaaaate

        • @supabrudda: Still NFI.

        • +2

@macrocephalic: it's a joke from down south where the greeks & italians immigrants were known to rip up their lawns & concrete over the top. And rip up the carpet/floorboards & tile it. To make them just like the homes back in their old countries.

      • +1

Yeah not on the plans to do that anytime soon. Buying our first place, has fresh carpet in place. :)

      • +3

I suddenly just felt really cold imagining the whole place in tiles.

        • Well, the bedrooms with beds in them still have carpet, everything else is tiled. In Brisbane it's rarely cold enough to be a problem.

        • You tile the room then put down a large rug to keep your feet warm.

      • -2

        @macrocephalic:
Why mention his ethnicity? Would you have said local Australian guy?

        • +5

I was being descriptive. Why did I even mention that I got my house tiled?

        • -3

@macrocephalic: It's more relevant than his ethnicity - which illustrates how you're thinking about people - no doubt largely unconscious.

        • @punkterfuge:
"which illustrates how you're thinking about people - no doubt largely unconscious"
I agree. It's no different to saying I got my car fixed by this local black guy.

  • How long will this deal run for? I want to order a couple but will need to measure tonight to work out which size to get.

    • will run until sold out :) You can return if the size isn't right

  • +4

It says 23 at checkout, do we need a coupon?

    • +2

oops sorry - this has now been updated at checkout
      sorry for the confusion

  • is it hard or soft?

    • +15

Starts off soft, then goes hard.

      • +3

        Then goes soft again?

        • Stay engaged and it shouldn't. giggity

  • -4

Just want to put an FYI out there - PVC supposedly leaches toxins that are not very good for you. I have been looking at getting chair mats however the non-PVC ones are much more expensive than the PVC ones.

    • +28

You put your chair on it, you don't chew on it.

    • The concerns are blown out of proportion and even then only apply to soft PVC.

Having said that, poly-carbonate is probably better anyway.

    • +3

These mats are to put your chair on, not sure what you are doing to think you could get "toxins" lol. Also if you actually did any research you would know you would have to burn and inhale the PVC to actually get any affects to your health. Simply having it in your house is exactly as bad as your plastic TV, sitting there it's fine, but if you burn and inhale it, you will surely be stupid enough anyway.

      • -1

I've read that it may be a problem with "outgassing" (even when sitting on the floor) - you don't have to put it in your mouth or even touch it. Of course there may be different arguments to this hence the use of "supposedly" in my original comment. I just wanted to put it out so people can make their own decisions.

I myself would rather reduce the risk.

        • +9

I guess you don't drive a car, eat anything that comes in a plastic container, use a phone, use a computer, walk outside, or walk in the sun? All of these have averse health risks, and is actually proven to affect your health FAR MORE than having pvc in your house.

That outgassing is a thing, it's the same thing as a "new car smell" (the stronger the smell the worse it is). It is quite bad for you, if you were to sit in a new car day in day out for a few years. I would say that a PVC mat is not even on the radar as the smell (outgassing) goes away in a short period anyway. There are far more serious things in your life that affect your health than some stupid article you read. There is a legitimate concern, and then there are people who wear tin foil hats.

I would suggest to do less reading, and more living.

Not sure if PET is considered safer than PVC but it's an option for only $7 more.

      • I had one of those, used on standard (not shag pile) carpet. Lasted a little over a year, then started showing cracks.

Might last longer on hard floors, but Ikea don't say it is for hard floors only.

When new, had to leave it outdoors for a week to get rid of the smell.

    • Yeah I had to return my $9.90 ones from Bunnings because the smell didn't go away even after leaving it out to air for a week. Hated it.

    • Lim^^, is that you? (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1669176)

Have you been making same stpd comment and looking for your "ideal" mat protector since 2011?

  • $6 cheaper than Ikea….not reaaaaally chea

  • +1

hey rep, the description says: Where to use: Carpet & Underlay 7 - 12mm thick, Carpet & Underlay up to 6mm thick. Which is correct? I'm after one to put on carpet with underlay.

    • Sorry, it works on both carpet with or without underlay. Hope that helps?

      • Thanks, i bought a big'un

        • If you've not used one before and have thick carpet, I find the one I have bends under the weight of my office chair wheels and won't roll smoothly since I relocated it whereas it used to work OK on cheap thin carpet. Maybe different thicker/stiffer models might be available but I have since stopped using it because the chair doesn't
appear to be damaging/wearing out the new carpet.

    • Hello Bellyup
They both are correct - it can be used on carpet and underlay up to 12mm
      Hope that helps

  • Finally got myself the famous OzBargain matshop chair mat. Hard floors already worn down too much in computer chair area but this will help stop the wear and tear .

  • Is there a point of this if you've already got hardwood floor boards?

    • +3

Yes, you will wear through the varnish/poly pretty quickly without something like this. I got a nice ugly chair sized circle on my floor before running out and buying some carpet squares from Masters closing down sale.

  • +1

Awesome timing, I almost bought 2 of the 114 x 135cm size from ebay with CRACKA20 this morning for $39 each

  • +1

    Thanks Rep, perfect timing!

  • i need one of these but i need a big one.. im thinking like 2x2m,

    • Get 4?

    • -1

A diet might be a more appropriate solution.

    • -1

A diet might be a more appropriate solution.

  • Hi Rep, is the material used free of BPAs and other toxins?

  • +1

I'll never get over how good OzB is at convincing me I need things I never thought about before

  • +1

Can you do the same price for the carpet version?

  • What is the option "with lip"? Will it talk back and give me lip? That'd be rather rude!

  • Any of the heavy duty ones on sale?

  • Tried ordering and it came up with an error in processing payment :(

    • Figured it out.

  • -2

Are these the ones with the pins in the bottom to stop them sliding around? I find the ikea ones move too easily and end up all over the place.

Edit: I read the description and found the answer… I need a carpet mat!

  • Good deal, might grab one.

Are these good for laminate flooring?

  • +6

The reason these have a 6 month warranty is cause they will break after 6 months guaranteed. The last time i purchased a mat it broke within months, and they dont stand behind their products. They use as many excuses as they can find.

They dont seem as cheap when you have to buy one every 6 months.

    • +3

Thats good to know, I was wondering why it was so short. Under consumer law you would still have a right to a repair or replacement, as six months is not a reasonable lifetime for a mat. If these are particularly short, they need to disclose this to the consumer so the right expectation is in place.

      • +1

They told me that i must have used it incorrectly, for cracks to develop, they said they would need to send someone to measure my carpet pile. Which is of course ridiculous, after that i told them i wanted nothing to do with them. I only posted cause i wanted to make sure that the buyer beware.

        • How could you possibly use it incorrectly? They don't even specify any carpet pile requirements on their site so I don't see how that would be relevant. What a terrible customer experience!

        • @pinchies: Good question, i just didnt want the stress from having to argue with them, so let it go.

        • @garetz:
I have one that i've been using for about 1.5 years. It has 5 cracks in it now (2 larger ones on each side). Although i never contacted them so i have no idea what their support is like. Just be aware they are good value but cracks will appear after use, especially as it nears the 1 year mark.

        • Thanks for letting us know, was going to buy, but not anymore.

        • @pinchies:

Hmmm…. I get these for $5 each at a clearance centre near my house.

    Edit
In case anyone is interested, in the Ascot Vale store. http://www.cheaperbuymiles.com/

    • At $5 I'm gona go check em out, thanks

  • +2

Bought from these guys before - if you follow their guide to measure your carpet and underlay properly your mat should last quite awhile. Have had mine for years.

  • $21 is cheap?! People actually want these things? I ended up with over 20 of these things after an office closed down. And i scraped all pf them :( fiddlesticks!!

    • +3

Please hand over your OzBargain badge and head over to OzRich instead. Thanks!

Whats the width of the lip?

  • @matshop I am looking for a similar mat for my kitchen about 18m2. Reason - I want to save my tiles from my two little ones banging vessels/pots/kitchen containers on the floor. Any recommendations ?

    • Hi AussieB, we dont stock the item, however an interlocking floor tile would be the best option.

  • +1

    I can't see $21 option?

  • +2

    Are these still available?

    • Hi Riczter we have take these off sale.

  • +2

I am not going to order from this site. My internet security software Kaspersky has warned me and blocked me from entering payment details.

  • My order has been sitting on processing for about a month now… :(

Edit: After chatting with Mat and asking around the office, I discovered that it had been delivered a long time ago but my name wasn't on the label etc so nobody at my business knew who it was for and it was sitting neglected in a corner, haha.
