    How much USD does a $20 card get you typically?

    • It depends on the currency exchange really. Without discount it should be roughly around $14-$15 now.

      • +1

        Bit confused about how these work. I thought you used to purchase a $10USD card for $15AUD, etc. So wouldn't the USD price be fixed even if the card is discounted?

        • +11

          Not anymore. They are sold in AUD and converted once applied to your account.

        • @shanakatak: Ah gotcha, Thanks for the clarification :)

        • +3

          @shanakatak: So I could stock up and wait for a better exchange rate?

        • +8

          @Divitini:
          No idea, the currency exchange market is not something I'm good at predicting.

        • @Divitini:
          Exchanging right now is good.
          Past few weeks median has been sitting below $0.75

    • Redeemed a $100 card today and got US$75.54 for it. So with today's rate at 0.7554 you'll get $15.11 - pretty decent rate. With the 10% discount and bought with a 5% off Wish card, it's an effective rate of 0.8835 - it's like going back to 2014!

  • +13

    Remember this stacks with 5% off Wish gift cards.

    • Do you have a link for this?

    • Are egift cards easy to use in store?

      • +1

        People have had no problems buying other giftcards using wish egiftcards in woolies. With Big W they did crack down on it a while ago when there was 7.5% off Big W cards selling and everyone was going in store to buy other gift cards.
        I'm not sure what the situation is now.

        • +12

          Thanks, I'll give this a crack. Worst case I spend the ecard at woolies on salt ready for the international.

        • +1

          @Expon: I chuckled. +1 good sir.

        • @Expon: What's salt ready for the international?

        • @virhlpool: I'm guessing you're not a DoTA player.

        • @D3NI3D: You are correct.

      • +7

        Yeah, I do it all the time at Woolies. I just chuck the cards onto the Woolworths Money app which shows the number/PIN and your balance etc so it's easy to use that way.

        • Thanks, I'd never heard of the app. Taking a look at it now.

    • I'm pretty new to the cash rewards thing. How does it work?

  • Great thanks OP. Was going to Preorder Marvel Infinite and buy Tekken 7. Now at least get 10% off.

    • +14

      Was going to preorder Marvel Infinite…

      ( ͡° ͟ʖ ͡° )

      and buy Tekken 7.

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )

    • +4

      Even at 10% off the steam store price would still be the most expensive place to get tekken 7

      STEAM $65aud -10% is $58.50aud
      CDKEYS.COM $55aud -5% (Facebook) is $52.25aud

      cdkeys just an example

      • It's just that I have a madcatz TE stick and it works with the pc. I do have a ps4 but don't want to shell out another $200 for a new stick. Where would one go for cheap "legit and legal" Tekken 7? Heard those websites who claim to get it cheaper use stolen cc, and could get the steam account banned.

        • +2

          $52 au with code pcgames5off. still not a great price but $13~ cheaper than steam.

        • +1

          Cdkeys.com

        • +3

          Activating a key won't get your account banned, on rare occassions the game will be revoked from your library though. I've bought hundreds of games off grey market websites and never had anything removed although have had issues with duplicate key message or invalid key that they have resolved for me after a few back and forths. Buying from a site like greenmangaming/wingamestore is fine though. Use www.isthereanydeal.com to search a game across many legit sites, they don't allow greymarket on their search.

          https://isthereanydeal.com/search/?q=tekken+7#/page:game/inf…

          At the moment the cheapest price is tied between GameBillet & WinGameStore at ~$41USD which currently converts to ~$54AUD

        • @Agret: Thank you. Exactly what I needed.

        • @kaneissik: Tried that discount code. didnt work. bought it anyways. Thanks.

        • +1

          @starburstyellow:

          Sorry about that, it worked once when I used it but I haven't been able to use it again. I figured it was a one-off code but maybe it just doesn't work at all.

    • +8

      Its usually cheaper to buy games at eb/jb/bigw etc.

      Steam is super overpriced.

      Even during the 'summer sale' etc. its still often cheaper to get games elsewhere.

      I havent bought anything on steam in years.

    • At least wait for the steam sale, mate, it's less than 24 hours away:

      The summer sale has been confirmed to start Jun 22nd:
      http://www.pcgamer.com/steam-summer-sale-dates-confirmed-by-…

  • +2

    I wonder if the exchange rate that Steam gives you is good - is it better then 28 degrees without foreign transaction fees?

    • +9

      I bought a $20 steam card from JB hifi about 3? months ago and got pretty close to the XE.com rate.. it was maybe 10 cents difference so it's way better than most CCs..

      Edit: Just checked. $20 AUD converted to $15.21 USD into my steam account

      • +1

        28 Degrees is not most CCs. ;)

        • I'd be very surprised if 28 degrees was the same or better with the conversion rate steam is offering.

        • Just remember, 28 Degrees has a Payment handling fee, which is 0.95c per time you pay off your credit card.

        • +2

          @jwb1981:

          Not if you pay online through the online payment centre!!! ;)

        • +2

          @Vladdo:

          28 Degrees is not a regular credit card though - the rate is pretty close to xe.com as well.* So I'd say it would indeed be roughly the same or better than steam.

          *As I understand it, it actually uses the overnight MasterCard rate for the day it gets processed, so will fluctuate slightly compared against xe.com. How close it is to xe.com, or possibly even better than, will depend on how quickly it's processed, and on the direction it fluctuates on the day.

          Not saying that the steam exchange isn't good too - I just think you are dismissing the 28 Degrees card as just another credit card, when it isn't. It is pretty much as close to a costless exchange as you can probably get, and is likely to be as good if not better than steam.

      • [edit] never mind, had a maths brain fart.

        • Yeah that is true to the current exchange rate

  • +17

    Nice! Steam Summer sale coming up. Time to load up on credit so I can grab games I may never touch, but just need to have them anyway.

    • +3

      haha. you beat me to it. I might look at Bioshock and Civilization 4: Colonization. I shouldn't really add anything to my games collection though. I am basically just a digital hoarder at this point.

  • +3

    This is good timing! Steam sale should start in around a week.

    http://whenisthenextsteamsale.com/

      • The Steam Summer sale is on now and started on the 22nd.

        This article was published on JUN 22, 2017 @ 05:20 PM

        "The Steam Summer Sale starts today and runs through July 5th."

        https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2017/06/22/here-are-5-…

        Obviously if you clicked the link whenisthenextsteamsale after the summer sale started, it will give you the Halloween Sale, which is literally the next steam sale. If you were expecting to see Summer Sale on now, you would need to click the link whenisthecurrentsteamsale, which doesn't exist, because it would be redundant.

        • +1

          Makes sense. They should just put both information imho for those who might think like I did and wonder where the summer sale went.

        • @AlienC: good point. That would be good considering they know when it starts and ends. It would not be difficult:

          Steam Summer Sale on now ends 2nd of July.

          Next sale: Halloween… etc

          That would be useful.

        • +1

          @Perthguy: so useful.. I swear more websites like this need some sort of verifiable user editor.

  • +2

    Thanks for the deal, OP. I will pick up one or two.
    Unrelated to the deal itself, how is everyone feeling about Steam prices recently? I know we had higher prices always but recent couple of weeks, it looks worse. Like Fallout 4 VR is priced at USD79.99 while in US Steam, it's USD59.99 etc.

    • +2

      Greenman gaming has 22% off at the moment. Get doom and fallout for about $72us

    • +1

      Using Fallout is a bad example because it's published by Bethesda. Any game published by Bethesda or Activision is going to be severely overpriced for aussies.

    • +1

      @billy77

      how is everyone feeling about Steam prices recently?

      Steam hasn't had the best prices for quite some time.

      Use IsThereAnyDeal.com to find better prices for Steam keys.

      The best price they have Fallout 4 VR is on GamesPlanet UK £35.99 which is approx USD45. That makes these steam cards a poor deal.

  • THANKS OP

  • -7

    Stop supporting Steam's overpriced games. Support key sellers instead.

    • +19

      G2A rep spotted

      • +5

        Real OzBargainers don't pay full price, especially if it's overpriced.

        • -2

          Real non-scumbags don't support crooks that are harmful to the gaming industry.

        • +5

          @thescarecrow84:
          greenmangaming is legit.
          The only major dodgy gray market key reseller I know is G2A

        • +2

          @thescarecrow84: use www.isthereanydeal.com it searches only authorised key sellers so you don't have to worry about g2a ripping you off with their crappy 'g2a shield' nonsense or your credit card being stolen on cjs keys or whatever lol

        • +4

          @Blitzfx: GMG is fine. G2A are crooks and a half, and cdkeys is dicey. Remember the context of the chain was people talking about G2A who have a long history of shonkiness.

        • +1

          @Agret: Yep good site, layout is a bit of a mess and could use a reshuffle but very useful. The Enhanced Steam browser extension integrates its data too.

    • +1

      This guy is actually correct.

      There is no need to purchase overpriced games on Steam. In fact Steam/game developers allow these third party CD Keys to be used by not putting geographical restrictions on the keys. Even retail is cheaper most of the time.

      The only time buying something on Steam directly is useful is if you are purchasing in-game items that don't have keys or gifts.

    • Any in particular?

  • Which exchange rate does it go off?

    • +2

      Approximate using NZD here http://steam.steamlytics.xyz/currencies

      Google finance currently:

      1USD = 1.39NZD
      1USD = 1.32AUD

      Steam currently:
      1USD = 1.37NZD
      I would approximate 1USD = 1.3AUD which seems about right as it is currently converting my $20 card into $15.23USD which is 1USD = 1.31AUD

  • -1

    I believe the Steam gift cards are sold in Australian Dollars (for a while now), making all this talk about conversion rates moot.

    • +5

      Yes but AUD is not a Steam currency… Think you completely missed the point lol. Your AUD will convert to USD which is what all the talk is about.

      • +2

        Ah yep I did. Was referring to how Steam giftcards were once sold in USD.

        I need to sleep.

    • thanks, didnt even realise

  • Sigh…
    Take my TI money GabeN

    • Steam gift cards should work on Dota2 right?

  • +5

    With GST coming to the Steam store very soon, I wouldn't bother stocking up on Steam wallet money. Prices are very likely to be jacked up, negating the discount offered here, so only buy these cards if you plan to spend before July.

    • +1

      Yep, 10% excess on Steam purchases due to GST from 1st July, so now we have to deal with Australia Tax ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_Tax ) as well as GST.
      Sigh… :'(

      • Yup like someone said above Fallout 4 VR is priced at USD79.99 while in US Steam, it's USD59.99. After the GST gets introduced it'll be USD87.99 for us =/

        • +1

          That article was a bit confusing. So from what I gather, GST is still being applied to Steam purchases from July, but GST on imported physical goods is delayed until 2018?

        • +2

          @pud354: yep

    • Do you know if it will apply to market purchases? Skins crates/cases etc.

      • It does. But when you buy something there is a small box where you can opt to not use your steam wallet and charge your cc or paypal instead.

    • Wat

      The summer sale has been confirmed to start Jun 22nd:
      http://www.pcgamer.com/steam-summer-sale-dates-confirmed-by-…

      (that's today, but in the US, so less than 24 hours, anyway).

  • That will help with COD WW2

    • +1

      COD MW2 best COD

      • MW3 is the best

        • HL3 best

        • +2

          WESTSIDE IS THE BEST (ALI G VOICE)

  • Lol big W, last time I bought a Nintendo card from big W it didn't work and was a huge hassle

  • +1

    The steam summer sale should also kick off in the next day or two. So could be a great time to get some

  • Purchased one this morning using a wish egift card. Didn't scan 10% off at the Hurstville Sydney self serve. Had to tell them. Even though they have signs up saying 10% off.

    • +1

      Had the same, it seems to be all stores. It was a paint to get it fixed.

    • +2

      Yep, me too. Took a good 10 minutes for them to work it all out. But now I've got my modest war chest ready for tomorrow, because apparently ~1000 unplayed games just isn't enough.

      • At least these ones dont still sit in the wrapping like my present collection of console ones. Easier to hide from the better half :)

    • Same - scanned at $20 at checkout - no recognition of the discount in the system. I mentioned the 10% discount and the cashier gave me a two dollar coin refund.

    • Was just on my way to warn people of this. Yeah, i had the same (Frankston). Didn't realise till after and got it. Bbought with egift card so they gave me a wish card equal to the discount i was supposed to receive.

  • +2

    Not sure if this is happening at other stores, but just went to QV Big W and got told they aren't selling any Steam cards until tomorrow because of this scanning issue.

    • I was told the same at a WA store.
