So does that mean you have to go in and buy it at 8 o'clock? Or is it from the internet or something?

    • +3

you gotsta go in, they want to upsell, cross sell, add extended warranty, accesories, etc

  • -2

    Bait and switch

    • +4

No, well, last time they came through for genuine buyers.

      what a silly comment

  • Is this the Acer D250 or the Acer 532H branded as an eMachine?

  • I picked up an EM250 last time from Harvey Norman.

Great deal, will pop by and get another.

Any item limitations on per person?

  • Would be the same as this wouldn't it?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30463

    • Out of interest. How long does cashback from Acer take? As I have heard it can take months to get the cashback.

      • Mine took 5 weeks from Acer's last cashback promotion after i sent in my D250's invoice/cutout etc.

      • Both mine took about 6 weeks. Just make sure you fill in all the details correctly to avoid them saying it is not valid.

    • Same deal. eM350 is being sold tomorrow.

  • +3

lol expect door busting families with kids putting them on feebay like last time, gonna give it a miss

  • +2

make sure you get there right on 8am or you will miss out on the netbook

$99 is a very good price for the Electrolux Ergorapido Vacuum Cleaner indeed.

Just got 1 of these :} Black only I was told.. still good value.

    Some pointers:

The N450 cpu is used in netbooks worth $500+, so this is well worth it, it also supports 64 bit operating systems.

The em350 has 2 USB ports and a VGA port (plug in to your monitor).

3 cell battery will not last long, but will last longer if your not watching video's or installing files.

Does not come with carry bag. (You can get a cheap one under $20)

Definitely not to be used for games, though you can watch videos on it.

    Software Advice:

Windows Xp is old and outdated, throw it in the trash. If your smart you should be able to get Windows 7 cheap. It is very easy to put Windows 7 on a USB.

    Alternative to Microsoft office:
    Openoffice (supports office document conversion)

    Free Anti virus:
Avg Free or Microsoft Security Essentials

    Free Firewall:
    Comodo (recommended) or Windows Firewall

    • Sorry but I disagree re need to upgrade OS or RAM on these. I got eM250 (very similar specs but 1.6OGHz Atom 270 chip rather than this 1.66GHz Atom 450) 6 months ago and they're great. I think they're great as is with XP and 1GB of RAM. 450 chip generation isdesigned to give better battery life so they may be fine with the standard 3cell battery too.

Re Win 7 - can't see why you'd spend money. I know some buyers who get Win 7 netbooks actually prefer to downgrade to XP. XP came out in 2001 but ssince revisions to it has now become a great and very stable system.

Agree re ditching installed trial version of MSOffice asap and installing free (open source) OpenOffice in its place www.openoffice.org

Here's a guide for making the most out of your netbook:

    http://lifehacker.com/5446092/the-definitive-guide-to-making…

That said, the best performance boost you can do for your netbook is to upgrade to Windows 7 which boots faster than XP (or make the switch to Linux — e.g. Ubuntu Netbook remix) and increase the RAM to 2 GB.

    • Personally I think 1GB ram is enough. Upgrading to 2GB is not worth the extra cash ($55 on ebay).

There is very little chance it will use the whole 1GB of ram, even with Windows 7.

I remember using Windows XP with 256mb ram lol!

      • +2

The best mod I did to my MSI U100+ was upgrading to 2gb ram. It cost 30$ or so (one extra 1gb stick. Windows 7 did not lag at all after the ram upgrade but it did lag a bit when using 1gb. Very noticable difference. :)

        • well for $30 it would be worth it.

    • The n450 cpu supports Windows aero btw.

  • on a side note, how do you guys see the Navigon gps ?

    • I have the 4.3" navigon 3300 max, and I prefer it to my TomTom 340 XL. It has more accurate tracking, with a much better windscreen attachment. When I bough mine 5 months I spent the extra to get the 2yr map update. At least the 3300 is a very capable piece of equipment, and very good value.

  • I'd buy the Acer Aspire if the rebate was $100.00… too bad it's only $99.00

  • does anyone know if the Acer emachine has a cd drive? Apparently alot of small laptops dont come with cd drives anymore???

    • +1

No CD Drive. Most Netbooks don't have CD drives…. Theres no real need for a CD Drive anyway. USB Drives are pretty much replacing them. I haven't used a CD Drive in zonks…

      • Thanks for the reply. My sister wanted a CD drive to watch DVD's and play games, etc. But i just read the emachine isnt too good for games.. hmmm

        • Depends what sort of games. As for DVDs and CDs, make images of them and copy them onto the HDD.

          • @Maltopia: These things are roughly on par with a 2.4Ghz P4, so anything the P4 can do this can do it aswell I guess.

        • Yeh…i don't think you'll get too far playing games with a $200 machine. If she wants to play games, tell her to get an actual notebook. Like a 15.6" Laptop >$800.

  • +2

you could easily play most windows 95 and older DOS games from the "golden era" on this machine. Doom 95 anyone?

    • +1

or those emulator games for n64 and sega

  • Got the EM350 and HP 2050 printer from Harvey Norman in the North CBD Sydney.

Rocked up at 8.05 and was the first customer.

Limit of 1 per customer on the EM350.

  • My Booo?

  • One for me and one for the misses. Almost got them for $197 before cashback.

  • This cashback thing is confusing as
'Cut out the barcode and SNID from the side of the product box for which you are claiming (as pictured below)'

However my barcode is covered by the harvey norman big yellow consignment sticker……

    • So you bought one?

    • i would possibly try and get Harvey Norman to replace the unit. you could argue that you bought it because you could claim a cash back however due to their fault you are unable to do it. if they dont have it in stock be persistent that you want the cashback from them or some sort of compensation. im pretty sure they will either exchange it or give u the cashback from themselves if they fail to remove the sticker without damaging it. + if u get the cashback straight from them u wont have to wait 6 weeks.

    • -1

So you bought one but dont show love for the deal. Enjoy your netbook

      • -1

        don't fish for votes.

  • I got mine for $226-that means $187 aftr cashback…not bad!
    I'm actually using it now!
    I don't think there was a limit of 1 per customer-there was a guy that got 3 -_-

    • Ahh poo, the manager told me there was a limit of 1 per customer when I was attempting to buy two. Would make good presents for young'ns starting university.

  • Is this strictly between 8-9am. As obviously i have missed out. The website denotes the marathon sale ending at 9pm.

    • Got a second one for mum at 10.30am at Harvey Norman QV (about 20 left)

Also got extra 2 year warranty for $39 dollars whilst the customer being served at adjacent terminal got offered it for $35, not that fussed =)

  • I got mine! I waited out the store at 7.45 am and was the 3rd to walk out with one. Love this little thing:-)

  • has anyone else got the yellow HN sticker on their box's side?

    • Yes, mine got the yellow stiker. What does it mean?

      • OK, i just read the above comments. The yellow sticker doesn't seem to cover the barcode. I can see 5 bar codes there, i think that should be all of them.

  • what price do they normally sell for?

    Thanks

  • I got mine, for $232 ($197+$35) for 2 yrs extend warranty from HN.

    • oh, my goodness. How could you guys still got a chance to negotiate on the price when there are so many people lining there just want to buy one?

      • hacks

    • Was that $197 before or after cashback?

  • From the battery how do you tell whether it is 3 cell or 6 cell? It is printed 3 cell on the box and other stickers. But i just want to see if there is any supprise:-)

    • OK, no surprise. It is 3 cell. Found 2200mAH:(

  • Still a few left at Alexandria HN, good price but already got a few laptops no need for another one… :)

  • is anyone planning to upgrade to windows 7 on these?

    • I put Win7 64bit on mine.

      • can you link me to a good tute?

        • Might have to revert to 32 bit, the Acer support drivers are all for 32 bit and do not seem to work. Namely, can't get wireless working :(

          http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool

Btw drivers can be found here:

          http://www.emachines.com/support/drivers.html

          • @pogichinoy: Let me know if you get it working. I'm considering putting 64bit Win7 on it too but might get Win7 32bit instead.

          • @pogichinoy: Wireless LAN on Windows 7 64 bit:

Download Wireles LAN DRIVER - Atheros 9.0.0.173 from http://www.emachines.com/support/drivers.html
            1. Extract the folder
            2. Click on Start
            3. Right Click Computer > Click Properties
            4. Click Device Mananger
            5. Right click the driver > Click Properties
            6. Click on the Driver Tab
            7. Click update Driver…
            8. Click Browse my computer for driver software
            9. Browse for the folder you extracted
            10. Click Next

Windows update and intel chipset driver:

            1. Open windows update and check for updates
            2. From the recommended updates you should find the intel chipset driver.
            3. Update Windows and install the chipset driver.
            4. After you restart do a performance test to enable windows aero.

You should be fine from then on, you do not need any other drivers, the function keys will work properly without the drivers.

(better to stay away from the function drivers as there was an exploit that allowed a hijacker full control over windows earlier, but if you still want it, this exploit has been patched years ago)

            • @ngwrncy2: Cheers

I tried the Broadcom drivers first, didn't work, didn't bother with the Atheros drivers (which work fine in 32 bit when running the setup application), so I ended up going back to 32 bit.

In the end, little difference between 32 bit and 64 bit in a netbook with 1/2GB ram.

              • @pogichinoy: Depends if you have a lot of tabs/word docs open. I'm the type of person who doesn't like to close tabs so I'll have 10-15 tabs open at once and a whole bunch of word docs. Made a big difference to me.

              • @pogichinoy: I tried the Broadcom drivers it works well

  • +1

Definitely upgrade the RAM. If you're in Melbourne, a 2GB stick runs $30 or so from places such as CPL or MSY.

Is there a six-cell battery for this?

  • Anyone gotten the Navigon 1400? Is it any good and also can you negotiate it lower?

  • Just picked up the TV for $498 and they gave me the 2 year extended warranty for free .at least i will have a TV that works for 3 years now!
$498 was the same price quoted to fix my old TV that went last week . About 50 people were waiting outside the port kennedy store in WA mainly for the net books .

  • No one was waiting at Hoppers Crossing-I got there at 8 and it was pretty much empty. I stayed in the car for a while to wait for someone else and to make sure that I wasn't the only person there :)
I just realised that my box has "Item 10 of 14" on it-if they only got 14 laptops, they would've sold out pretty quickly!

  • Any other good unadvertised deals to be found? Want to know if its worth going or not.

  • how do we restore to windows xp? when we werent given disks…..

    • If I remember correctly you press ALT+F10/F12 during start up to access the recovery menu and use the recovery partition to restore to factory settings (win xp)

  • Pity this netbook doesn't have bluetooth

    Better specs page here: http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eM350-2…

  • Picked one up at 12.30pm from my local!
He was not going to sell it but manager then said how many!
I was going to get more then said 1 per customer.
Would only do $236 and told me have 10 days to send info on website and need to send in barcode.

What is the exact Ram I need for 2GB stick at MSY?
    MSY says $50?

    • 2GB DDR2 667MHz SODIMM for laptops

  • Harvey Norman in Dandenong still had 20+ left a 1:00pm

  • can i still get this deal??

also has anyone found a 6 cell battery off a site?

    • no but I would think a 6 cell or 9 cell battery will popup on ebay sometime soon, as the em250 9 cell battery did.

  • Wiley park HN Sydney got more than 50 emacines
locked up in a cage at 2pm

  • i think 1 hour deal is for samsung tv only.
you can still buy emachine all day till 8 pm unless sold out.

  • that sale expert in city west does not know about the cash back, and put in the order for 197 dollars for another buyer…….try to grab the same deal….. the supervisor realised that and mentioned its 236 dollars……. lucky b@stard

    • how much stock left at city west?

      • 30-50?

    • same with me got one for 197$ but had to wait for my misses to finalise hers then the sales guy came back and realised what he had done so then had to pay the remaining of 236$

  • Got the Logitech mk250 wireless KB & mouse for HTPC.
Only $22! Very light, great range and battery life.

  • Can you backup the eMachine recovery to USB disk directly? Or does it need to be burnt onto a CD?

  • CAN THIS TAKE 2 X 1GB RAM OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE A 2GB STICK?

    GOOGLE SAYS:

    Number of Slots:

    Slot 1

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.*

*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.

    • 1 x 2GB stick

You would have to replace it with the 1GB Stick

      • What's the best price anyone has found for a 2Gb stick?

  • Currently, the 160 Gb is one drive and i want to get an extra partition to store some data, so can keep them between each installation. I am might be outdated. But do you guys still use Partition Magic to do this kind of job? I have tried to download a couple of it but both failed to install/launch. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    • Try this. Worked many times for me.

      http://partedmagic.com/

      • Have you used it on a machine with a 'recovery partition' such as this. I went down the Partition Magic 8 route, but it wont even start up as it cant recognise the recovery partition.?

  • MLC Centre (Martin Place, Sydney) Harvey Norman still has at least 5 and maybe close to 10 left. Open until 8pm if you are game. Well worth the money. I got mine around 530pm
