    Plus AMEX $50 credit….tempting

    • Is that $50 Amex credit targeted?

      • Offer has expired… :(

        • no.. my AMEX app shows the expire date is 04/07/2017

        • @baron33:
No but the maximum allowed limit of 50,000 deal acceptances has expired.

  • Such a great camera for this price. I've had mine for a while now and love it.

    • So is it better than say a Canon 600D?

      • Acording to snapsort yes the a6000 is much better than 600d
        score - A6000: 93 - 600D: 53
        http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-600d-vs-Sony-Alpha-A6000

        • +1

Snapsort is junk. It doesn't take into account what you're using your camera for or what it is designed to do. I would use a 600D for sports in a pinch but I wouldn't use the A6000 for example. The number of lenses available? Why do you care if you're going to use the most common 4-10 lenses or if there are 3rd party lenses available? Stabilisation none for the Canon? That's because canon does in lens stabilization and Sony does in body. Quoted viewfinder magnifications are just plain wrong. (Who knows what else is wrong). The comparisons are just completely nonsensical.

Takes a bit of research if you're going to use the camera for anything more than casual snapshots. Friends don't let friends base their purchases on Snapsort and the like.

      • +1

The a6000 is usually compared with the Canon 70D in terms of performance. If that's the case (I haven't done the research myself) then the a6000 would definitely be a step up from the 600D.

        • I'm kinda new to mirrorless lens but are there lens for this camera?

        • +1

          @nightelves:

Yes, they're interchangeable lenses. Plenty of them :)

        • @cala90:

so can I use my Canon lens for these?

        • +1

          @nightelves:

I think you might be able to with an adaptor.. You'd have to double check though, I can't say for certain. There might be some more camera advanced people here than me that could chime in :)

        • @nightelves: you could prob find an apadter. But you probably wont get auto focus or IS if the lens has it

        • +1

@nightelves: i'm still new to this field but pretty sure you would lose auto focus if using an e mount adaptor

        • +2

@nightelves: Look at the Metabones adapters/speedboosters to use Canon lenses. Autofocus will be hit and miss with the a6000. Essentially not usable, but recording of correct exif data and manual focus should work quite well. AF with adapted Canon lenses attached to the newer Sony ILC's like the A7r2 and the a6500 are much better and from all reports quite usable.

As an aside, one of the cool things about mirrorless cameras is being able to adapt pretty much any lens to them. You can have a lot of fun playing with older manual focus lenses and cheap "dumb" adapters from ebay.

        • @nightelves: I have bought a KiwiFoto adapter for Pentax lenses (k-mount) and bought some old manual Pentax lenses to play around with. Works quite well.

        • +1

@nightelves: I've got an a6500 and I've spent some time looking into adaptors for Canon EF mount. The Metabones has been popular but the Sigma MC-11 might be better wrt to autofocus. I'm just waiting for a deal to pop up before I get the MC-11 and Sigma 18-35 1.8.

        • +1

          @plastic spoon:

Fantastic feedback! Do you know if this is a crop lens or full frame?

        • @nightelves: With an adapter yes, however the type of adapter will dictate the functionality.

        • @nightelves:Great article and review on a huge range of adapters for Sony E mount cameras. https://phillipreeve.net/blog/adapters-manual-lenses-sony-a7…

        • @fivespice: Do you have a link for the adapter? I have loads of K mount lenses that Id like to try with the a6000.

        • @colspooners: Unfortunately I don't. I bought it from a store in Perth called "Camera Electronic" for like $55. They didn't even have it on their website, maybe worth giving them a call and seeing if they could send it to you if you're not in WA?

        • @nightelves: That one is a crop. Never actually seen it on sale though.

        • @plastic spoon: The best price you could get for MC-11 is 15% ebay deal from dcxpert http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SIGMA-MC-11-MOUNT-CONVERTER-ADAPT…

      • +4

I'd say yes. On specs alone the A6000 is a fair way ahead.

It also depends on what you want to use it for. We've got 2 DSLR's (Nikon D5100 and a Canon 700D) but ended up buying the A6000 to travel with a few months back. To be honest the kit lens isn't all that great (though still decent). We ended up buying a Sigma 30mm lens and had that on it pretty much the whole time, took awesome photos. All with the added bonus of taking up stuff all weight/room on my carry on :)

        • +3

Can vouch, the Sigma 30mm f1.4 is an awesome lens.

        • For the price, the Sigma 60mm f2.8 is an amazing lens too.

  • good price for it new.

too many cameras in my cupboard at the moment.

  • Awesome price OP. I paid $748 for the kit in late March from HN. Almost couldn't bring myself to do it as I told my partner it'd be cheaper in June… Ahhh OZB :(

  • Good price for the kit lens. I recently paid $600 for the body only model through the 20% off eBay sale as a reference, so this deal combined with the AMEX offer is a good price.

  • Great price. Bought one, thanks OP!

  • I love this camera. I got the double lens kit for $850 a few weeks ago. Its great!

  • not a decent price. a freakin awesome price!!
    719*10% = 71.90 HN gift cards
    $100 eft card from sony
1 amex $50 statement credit (we used 2)
we paid $620 (after eft card etc) a couple of weeks back. could've paid $447 today grr
    damn you op……….

  • This camera was only 800+ 3 yrs ago. I don't understand their opening price point because the superceding models are all 1400+. And to be $600+ 3 yrs later is a pretty good achievement.

    • +2

The a6300/6500 does not replace the a6000. There is no true a6000 replacement as of yet.

      • AH. that makes sense. thanks.

  • +4

Good price for a good camera. Shame Sony are not giving their APSC lens line up any focus.

  • Is this better than a Canon G7X II?

    • Canon G7X II isn't a interchangeable lens camera so it is hard to compare as the choice of lens is a bit part of the appeal of a DSLR etc type camera.
      http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-PowerShot-G7-X-Mark-II-vs-…
Based on specs the A6000 is better.

      • I forgot about that. Also, the fact that the screen doesn't tilt all the way up/down for selfies.

    • +1

g7x II is painfully slow especially when you shoot HDR. The screen keeps showing "Busy" while writing for 30s or more. It's not acceptable as you might miss many good moments while the camera is saving the photo. The buffering is really bad. The autofocus is really slow too and out of focus most of the time. You can see in youtube video many people show this problem. Another issue with HDR, you will see it doesn't look as nice as RX100. The only plus I can think of is the LCD that allows you to take selfie video or photo and the touch screen focus. Also you can't take slowmo video. I bought one around $500 from ebay 20% last time from official retailer. Next camera for me is a6500, the opposite of g7x II in terms of speed and photo quality.

      • Argh, I can't decide whether to get this and sell my G7X II or stay put. Can anyone sway me one way or the other?

        • Both different cameras for different uses.

Ones interchangeable like a DLSR, but smaller body- A6000. Has larger APS-C sensor for better low light, viewfinder, fast AF

Ones a more portable/pocket-able point and shoot - G7X II. A Sony RX100 is more comparable with this.

If you're into photography or want to learn, A6000. If you just want to capture moments quickly without fussing around with dials and shoot auto all the time then the GX7II.

  • Is this deal available in stores or only online?
I want to use 2 Amex cards to pay for it.

  • I've currently got a Canon 60D with Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS - just wondering if anyone knows of a lens available for the a6000 that would give similar versatility and similar/better low light performance, ideally without breaking the bank?

    • +1

Nope. You will need to get a sigma mc11 adapter and it's not certain how good af will be on the a6000.

I should also add that I have this camera, it's a pocket sized beast and still compares very well vs the latest round of mirrorless cameras. Sony zoom are very mediocre, but the primes avail are great.

      • Okay, thanks! :)

        • AF will be useless. Only the a6300 and a6500 bodies with an adapter attached will have useable AF.

  • Looks like server is down on their side …. ozbargained?

  • Is the A6300/6500 worth the premium over this?

    • +1

Unless you're a pro photographer, no.

    • +1

If you're after better video capabilities (e.g. 4K), then yes. But if you're taking photos only, get this with a decent lens and you'll be set for less than the price of the A6300.

    • if you need/want 4k

    • +1

      Not at their current price

It's crazy how long the a6000 has held it's value over the years.

  • +1

Geez the price has stayed the same since I bought it in 2014.

Sony A7 Mirrorless Camera with 28-70mm Lens Kit $1432 BONUS $150 EFTPOS Card via redemption

A7 and a6000 should also have HN gift cards for today.

    • Seems like only the A6000 with the 16-50 lens, and the A5000 kits have the 10% in vouchers from HN (at least the HN website makes no mention of it on the page for the Sony A6000 Mirrorless Camera with 16-50mm + 55-210mm Lens Kit, or for the A7).

      • Oddly the webpage advertising the 10% in HN gift cards states only

" Excludes Apple, Optus on contract, AEG, Asko, Falcon, Speed Queen, Gaggenau, Neil Perry Kitchen, Miele and Neff products, services such as Product Care, extended warranties, delivery and installation, and the purchase of Harvey Norman Gift Cards."

Wonder why it's only mentioned on the webpages for certain products though.

  • Strange when I add it to the cart the total comes to $761 and it added the body and lens separately. Plus it adds postage of about $13. I wonder if the bundle is actually out of stock

    • +1

It shows up as $719 for me, but yes, they are listed as separate items in my cart.

    • My mistake …. there is a discount at the end of $42

    • +2

I'm kicking myself because before the HN website began playing up, I added the 55-210mm lens separately and the total price was coming to $794 ($1,014 with $220 discount)!

I tried calling around to JB to see if they'd price match (I have gift cards) and when I came back, the site was playing up and the massive discount was gone. :(

      • Great! Now you're making me kick myself …. that is an incredible deal. Probably the reason why the website went down whilst they fixed that mistake. I think they would have honoured the mistake.

  • +1

I really want to in some shape or form take advantage of this Harvey norman deal + Amex card x2. But I don’t really need a dslr, I have a rx100 mk3 that gets neglected now as the camera taking qualities on my s8 is plenty good enough for me. Anyone care to share the benefits of having one of this? I use to own a nex-5 so I do to some extent appreciate a interchangeable lens kit.

    • It'll just be similar to nex5. Something tells me you won't use it and don't need it

    • +1

You kinda have answered your own question. The reason to buy a camera like this when you have a good smartphone camera is to have more options and features when taking a photograph. If you don't need those options and don't want to take advantage of the features then no need.

What you can do with an A6000 over an S8 is:

      1) As you are aware, change the lens. An S8 can't zoom as far or as wide as an A6000 with specialty lenses. If you want to take a photo of a mountain top zoomed in you simply can't with a phone. If you want to capture the interior of a small room in one shot you can't on a phone. You also can't get super thin depth of field on a phone compared to a 1.4 stop lens.

      2) The bigger sensor in an A6000 allows you to take good quality pictures in low light. No noise, just a clear picture. You can't do this with a phone.

      3) You can retrieve more detail in imaging software because the A6000 captures more detail.

      4) A6000 will autofocus faster and be capable of taking lots of pictures in a row more quickly

      5) A6000 has better ergonomics. You can hold it easily and change settings with physical buttons.

      6) A6000 has a viewfinder that can make it easier to see when out in the sun

I am sure there are more things but you get the picture (pun intended).

  • op, do you know when the promotion ends?

I will travel overseas in 1/ Sept…. thinking about to purchase it 60 days before my departure day and get 10% GST back…

    • If there's stock left by then that is.

  • Is Amex offer targeted?

    • It's finished unless you registered a while back.

  • Can this shoot video in 4k?

  • Thanks OP, just came back from HN.

Going away for the school holidays soon.

Got the A6000 with the kit lens
    $719
    minus $50 credit from Amex
    minus $100 cashbcack from Sony
    minus $65 GST refund

= $504 plus $72 worth of HN gift cards

    • Do they give you $72 a HN gift card on the spot?

      • Yep, on the spot.

    • whats the expiry date on gift card?

      • Just checked mine online and it expires in exactly 2 years

    • last time i bought this was back in 2015 dec.

      it was 690 - 100 - gst refund… around 480. so good buy mate!

  • -5

What can this do that my iphone can't?

  • what is the cash rewards offer with this deal?

  • No stock in so many stores in Brisbane.

  • Got one from HN watergarden. Used 2 amex cards. Thanks ozbargain

  • Got one from HN VIC watergardens. Used 2 amex cards. Thanks ozbargain

  • Is this good for vlogging? External mic?

    • +1

No external mic input, unless you opt for Sony's one that fit in the hotshoe.

The Screen doesn't flip 180 either if that's important. It is lightweight though compared to other DLSRs for vlogging.

The next model up A6300 or A6500 has audio input and 4K support. But still no flip-up screen

  • Thanks OP - Just got one.

Does anyone have lens recommendations for this? Looking for a prime lens, wide angle that is the best value for money.

    • +3

      Sigma 19mm

  • anyone here ordered online and opt for pickup? somehow my order still stuck at "being reviewed" :( hopefully they honour the gift card!

    • I ordered online for pickup and the store staff told me (by email) i can pick camera body now but the lens won't come until end of next month -_-

      • I called them up and they said all stores run out of stock near me! now need to wait for stock to arrive … hardly normal…..

    • Also see my updated email for pickup missing lens. Did you guys still get the 10% back in gift card?

      • It seems I just got another email this morning with the lens ready for pickup.

  • Did anyone order online and picked up from store? Did you get the 10% in gift cards? I called up today and they said because of the Sony Promotion, the 10% offer did not apply. Does anyone have the exact terms and conditions or cache of the web page for 10% gift card offer?

    • no way. i was banking on that extra sweetner on top. i'll try did up the terms

      • I found the cache of the web page, but in the footer it says "Terms and conditions apply. See in store for details.":
        http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:J7DOiPk…

        • mmm ok then. maybe it has something to do with
*3. Discounts are off the normal ticketed prices, unless marked as a further discount off a sale price.
but seems silly since some others got it. i'll have to call up tomorrow as well before i pickup
yea, try call another day hopefully another employee will say yes

  • I ordered online and got my camera today (without the harvey norman gift card). Didn't ready T&C 3:

"*3. Discounts are off the normal ticketed prices, unless marked as a further discount off a sale price."

But looks like some people got it anyway?

    • I'm going in today to pick up my camera and will fight them for those gift cards - otherwise its false advertising. Based on the T&C for the offer, only *2 is related:

*2. Bonus 10% of your purchase price back in Harvey Norman Gift Card(s) when you spend $250 or more in one transaction. Excludes Apple, Optus on contract, AEG, Asko, Falcon, Speed Queen, Gaggenau, Neil Perry Kitchen, Miele and Neff products, services such as Product Care, extended warranties, delivery and installation, and the purchase of Harvey Norman Gift Cards. Gift card is not redeemable for cash and cannot be used in the transaction in which it is issued. Gift card expires 24 months from date of issue. Terms and conditions apply. See in store for details.

T&C *3 is not listed on the advert for the GC offer. Furthermore I'm not sure what *3 has anything to do with the GC offer, that is just a general T&C for discounted items and doesn't seem to be related to the GC card offer.
