Same price as with the student discount, but no discount code required for those of us who are free from the shackles of educational institutions.

This model has a TN panel. Dell Chat said IPS screens should be available mid-July, so hopefully that will be in time to use this deal.

Models with more storage and RAM are also discounted by 15%.

Yeah that screen is just so Fugly

Don't mind the bezel and build but couldn't justify the insanity I would go through looking at that screen daily.
Ended up getting the XPS 15

Probably the best laptop I've ever owned/used and this is coming from a mac fanboy

  • seems pretty good pricing

    Plus 4% cashback via Cashrewards…

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/dell-australia

  • As per last deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/314085

I opened the screen up to take a look at the model.

    The screen is a 15.6" LG LP156WF6 (SP)(M3).

They'll insist it is an IPS. It's just a bad one.

  • Worth noting that the graphics card is the standard 4GB, rather than the 2gb one in slightly cheaper laptops

  • I've just received mine from Dell yesterday from the previous deal (with the student discount) - and the description on the invoice says this - "391-BDBP 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display"

So that doesn't say that it's IPS or TN. I haven't turned it on or anything but I was under the impression given the chat on the previous deal here that it was an IPS screen. What options do I have if I brought the laptop thinking it was IPS?

I noted above that a Dell Chat staff member told me that the last time they listed the display as IPS was an error.

You should be entitled to return the product and get a refund since it was not as described. Dell also have a 15-day change of mind returns policy, I believe.

      • Update: Well I thought I'd ring Customer Care to cancel as suggested, but first I asked the bloke if he knew about the IPS screens being substituted despite being advertised. He put me on hold to ask his "manager" and came back with a generic answer ("no there has been no issues") but I pushed him further and I think he actually did go and ask someone this second time. He said there were "some problem" with this particular product but now it should be all ok. I took all of his details so I could fire back in case, but I fired it up and must have got lucky, because this display is fantastic. Granted I was coming from a 5 year old laptop, but brightness is spot on, viewing angles are great and overall I'm happy with my purchase now. Of course I know YMMV and all that but I feel I've done pretty well.

        • Did you order yours on ebay to take advantage of the 5% off or from the dell au site? I only realised after doing it on ebay that ebay doesnt mention the ips part but the dell site does… so worst case i get a cancellation and get from dell site but assume they would be same stock. I have asked dell on ebay if they can confirm its the IPS one im getting or not.

        • @quikrex:
Confirmed with Dell ebay they are coming with IPS now and mine off Ebay is coming with IPS…both website and Ebay now match and say IPS :)

@quikrex: Sorry mine was from Dell au, using the 15% off student discount (got a code). It mentioned the IPS on the order acknowledgment email but not on the tax invoice I received. All worked out well in the end. Typing on it now, very happy with the quality. Put in an extra SSD in the 2.5 spare bay, all working a treat.

        • @armyadam:

Nice yea im ordering another 8gb of corsair impact ram and have a spare 500gb samsung 850 evo going in the spare ssd. Most people say they arriving quite quickly right now so lets see haha

        • @armyadam: Hiya - I just ordered one too, i got an order acknowledgement yesterday night, but havent got an order confirmation as yet - How long was it between placing the order and receiving the confirmation (as opposed to the acknowledgement)?

          Cheers
          Robert

          @kharn83:
It should be pretty quick. Try checking with dell as order confirmation should happen once payment is received. I ordered online last week but had to follow up via chat as they didn't bill my credit card.

        • @sriver:
I dont think i get any of that as i ordered off their ebay site to get an extra 5% off last friday night and i havent gotten anuthing yet besides usual ebay purchase mail and paypal charge mail. I see some comments saying standard shelf items take a few days only for delivery.

        • @kharn83: @quikrex Yeah I have to get another 8gb of RAM for sure, and the SSD I added (Samsung 850 EVO) was really easy to setup.

@kharn83 Pretty sure I ordered on 22nd June, which was a Thursday, got the confirmation on the Monday after the weekend which was about 26th June, and then received it last Wednesday, 5th June, so maybe 3 weeks total from order to receipt. Not too bad really.

        • @armyadam: yea grab some kingston impact ram its the same price as all of them and the lowest latency and best performing ive found from most reviews etc.

Apparently these are now shipping alot faster 1 to 3 days turn around lets see if thats true.

  • Wish they didn't have the red WASD keys. It's like blood from the game fell from the screen onto the keyboard.

  • Anyone have any idea why the Inspiron 14 7000 never made it to Australia? And only the 15" model did?

Been looking to buy a new gaming laptop for the last month or so after owning a hp pavilion DV6-6145tx bought from another ozbargain deal for the last 7 years. :)

Saw an ad at the bus stop this evening for the dell inspiron 15 7000 related to spiderman today and that made me go home and look it up.

Ended up buying this over the e570p since i missed out on the last sale for the e570p (Approx $1080 delivered), and the base config for the dell 15 7000 includes a 256gb pcie ssd which is what i would have needed to upgrade on the e570p base model anyway (e570p comes with a 120gb SATA 3 ssd by default). So the dell for $1270 I thought it was a pretty good buy.

Also I am fairly certain this model comes with IPS, as on the multiple order screens and the final email order confirmation I received it lists the IPS display panel with part number [391-BDIF], which differs from the older 391-BDBP LCD TN display from a week or 2 ago.

So yes, pretty certain this newer part number is the IPS panel that Dell mentioned they were releasing for orders this week.

    Cheers to OP.

    • +1 for the switch to IPS comment. I had an order last week (which was confirmed as TN, but no idea when IPS was coming) and then this week it's showing as IPS on the website and reinforced when I spoke with dell chat.

      For me it went like:

-Ordered inspiron 15 7000 with confirmed TN display last week (part number fits in line with kharn83's post above)
-Still in transit the Dell website is updated to IPS (let the frustration sink in..)
-Contacted Dell chat and explained my situation, they confirmed that this week they'd released the laptop with an IPS display
-Dell chat checked with their manager and confirmed they would refund me - I just needed to cancel the order and re-order (I'm happy with this outcome so thank you Dell customer service!)
-Rang up, cancelled my order, then re-ordered online
-New order confirmed with new part number (thanks @Kharn83 !)

Now I just need to wait for delivery. The ETA is 2 weeks but I suspect it will be more like 7-10 days.

P.S. I reckon the OP can be updated to remove the bit about TN displays now

      • Yea interesting, i ordered mine through ebay last friday night and it didnt mention IPS at all on their ebay site but the dell site had it on so i questioned it and said if it was not the IPS i would like to cancel to order from the dell site. They replied with "I can confirm that you will be receiving the IPS display, this wording was missing from our eBay listing and this has now been updated to reflect the description on the Dell website."
So also apparently the dell site says ships within 1 to 3 business days and delivery takes 2 to 3 business days after ships from warehouse…. i guess that puts me on Friday or next week monday, im really hoping its tomorrow lol
