About the wine:
Medium red in the glass, this Shiraz delivers dark plum aromas with earthy notes and hints of violet perfume. It has a lovely medium weight, well structured palate with a core of red fruits and hints of leather and sandalwood. A well made wine in a classic savoury regional style.

Expert Reviews:
Attractive wine; has that almost airy elegance of modest alcohol typical of many Hunter Valley shirazs, and at 5yo is still fresh and lively; black cherry, fine tannins, hints of Hunter Valley earth give this a real sense of place - and purpose. It's a good wine. Drink by 2030 Rating 94 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 17 Mar 2015

OP, you may want to revise your price down by $30 due to this deal :)

    • I tried the CORKAGE voucher on this and it didnt work?

      • worked for me

Make sure you're paying with Paypal

        • I was paying with Paypal, which I have an amex as the card - however I just tried a different item and it still does not work.
Additionally, it (Paypal) is aasking for another card during checkout.
Are Paypal not allowing Amex or something?
edit: just saw the other comments re amex - I am guessing this is why.

  • Hunter valley Shiraz?

Combined with CORKAGE code for <$90 delivered, not bad.

Btw, paid with Paypal, and this time I couldn't select my Amex instead of my bank account. Anyone know why? My Amex isn't expired and it's still listed as 'backup' but normally I can pick the Amex instead. Didn't want to muck around with it in case the wine sold out, but a minor frustration.

Graysonline. Happens every time I try to pay them. Hope nobody else catches on and disallows Amex via Paypal.

      • Thanks. It was driving my crazy.

Bought a case for ~$90 delivered - $7.50 / bottle for a 94 point wine seems decent - hopefully the wine is too!

Better be just bought three cases!!

  • Grabbed for the missus, thanks for posting.

if only they matched their website price of $84 a case

    • Is that still bidding up plus buyer's fee (whatever it's called) on top?

      • oh yes.. add 17.5%

        • That's why I've never bought from Grays website (only via ebay).
Hate having to pay a fee on top of the winning bidding price. Just seems wrong.

  • Grabbed a couple , thanks OP. Hopefully a good midweek drop ;)

too slow - Out of Stock now

  • If you like sparkling you can get 18 bottles of Wolf Blass red label for $70.80 (less than $4 a bottle) click and collect using CORKAGE. A bit more for delivery.
    Excellent wine at that price.

  • Out of interest, what kind of price would you expect this to sell at the shops?

    • +3

Around $30 for Estate, more for their other Shiraz varieties.

But you won't find this in many shops, Eagles Rest is relatively small winery so no big batches to distribute through stores.

Who knows where Grays got this one from, judging by the total number of boxes sold (256) they've sourced the pallet full somewhere.

I would not go crazy buying a lot of this wine. It is a hunter valley shiraz (ie lighter style than say SA shiraz) and it is already 7 years old.
So most likely is the best to be consumed right now or may be even passed its prime. Hard to say as there is not many reviews. Just musing the reason for the fire sale is because it has very little or no cellaring potential.

  • based on this from the winery themselves it was being sold to 'members' for $29.95 http://media.truelocal.com.au/1/6/1C00C8D6-2E0A-4054-9CE3-46…

  • For anyone still looking at buying - dont forget the 10% off https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/315745 should bring the price below $108

My case arrived today. I tried the wine and it's quite nice. Great value for the price. Olympicwiz is correct in that I don't think this wine will cellar for very long. There is the slightest, tiniest hint of fizziness, I imagine due to the beginning of re-fermentation in the bottle, but this isn't necessarily a flaw, and is barely noticeable. Buy if you want to drink pretty well immediately - in the next six months.
