I'm looking at automating some stuff around the home and was looking at a recent Xiaomi deal, but it only allowed for all of the sockets to be remotely controlled together. So after researching some alternatives, I came across this deal at Banggood. Zapals looked slightly cheaper, but then charges $8 postage and this current bangggood price is well below what I could find on Aliexpress or any of the other cheap electrical importers.

By my calculations, you can save a further 50c by using USD and paying with an appropriate credit card and don't forget topcashback for 6% or cashrewards for 4.5%.

Please be aware, this doesn't have an Australian certification, so can't be legally sold, just in case you were planning on buying up big and reselling. As with all electrical appliances, use this responsibly, apply common sense and don't stick inappropriate objects in the sockets and stop using it if it is damaged etc. To avoid repeating discussions that have been had many times, read any of the many ozbargain discussions about whether imported power boards will void your insurance, get hacked by ASIO or cause your cat to spontaneously combust.

    Interesting. Thanks OP.

Have you happened to check the power consumption of the board when idle?

  • Is there any way (e.g. a switch) to turn off its smart function - to make it an ordinary switch.

  • +4

It can handle four. I mean four.

There's code floating around the internet to control these from a computer (eg. https://github.com/mjg59/python-broadlink). My idea is to use a raspberry Pi to monitor electricity generation from my solar panels, and use that info to switch on/off my pool filter and chlorinator to save power, and maybe switch the pool (LED) light on for a couple of hours when panels stop producing power (ie darkness).

Broadlink also have a single socket that monitors power consumption through it, as well as allowing on/off switching

    • +1

That python code is great. The single socket ones are Broadlink SP2 / SP3.

Its on back order for 11 July.

Any confirm the IFTTT integration & that it works well?

  • Will this cause fire hazard?

    • It will if you set fire to it
