LG G6 H870DS 64GB Dual Sim Unlocked Black + 16GB MicroSD Card + Type C Bundle (from HK) $468 @eGlobal eBay

1110
PLENTY

I missed out during EOFY sale when this phone was under $500. Had it in the watch list so just applied 10% off from today's deal and paid $468 for it now.

Very positive reviews for the device all around given it costs half than other flagship phones.

  • Just trying to work out if MHL works with this, as the official LG site says: HDMI "Yes via USB Type C Adaptor (MHL - sold seperately)"

But i can't find anyone that has done this :(

  • OMG I have to resist the temptation :(

  • if this is 6.8" i will get it

    • +12

      Ok

    • +13

      thats what she said..

      • he might said the same…

        • Ouch! ;)

        • may see you in the hospital then ;)

  • +1

    Loving my G6.

Finally upgraded from my Nexus 5 (which, apart from the battery, was still going brilliantly after 3.5 years.

Ran Geekbench and scored 1850 and 4179 (single/multi).

Probably means nothing but scores compared nicely to phones double the price.

  • the jaybirds from eglobal are cheap … 117 delivered + cashback … but this company dont have a great rating on ebay.

  • +1

I couldn't wait so I bought this for like $520 with c5oz from dwi.

No regrets though, arrived yesterday and I love it. this deal is pretty damn good.

  • How is the warranty of eglobal compared to qd ebay? They have the phone for $540 with this discount.

    • I'm worried about this too.

    • +5

QD definitely better. You have to decide if it's ~$70 better

  • Do they provide invoice for taxation purposes? Planning to buy as a work phone.. Their listing mentions about providing one. Anyone know if that can be used?

    • -1

No, this is import stock and doesn't contain GST component.

      • +5

GST inclusive tax invoice is only relevant for getting the TRS. You can still make a deduction based on the decline in value for cost of the phone x the % of business use. You just need evidence of purchase such as a receipt to substantiate that you incurred the cost. (I am not giving you tax advice here, just stating what is available on the ATO website for you to make your own decisions).

        • +1

          This guy taxes.

  • +3

i got this phone.. While its it is a good phone, strangely enough in many ways I like my old LG G4 better.. I only upgraded because my LG G4 suffered the dreaded bootloop issue & i went out and took advantage of the discount code Ebay had going before the end of the financial year. For the price you simply can't go wrong though.. Considering what it has & what other high end phones cost in comparison.

    • +1

Hey bud, Could you be more specfic why? I am still runnning my G4 and fortunately it's still going strong after close to 18 months but an upgrade to the G6 is just about hitting the sweet spot pricewise.

      • +8

The G6 has 18:9 aspect ratio. This has some merit for things like Google Maps (Screen is longer), but, youtube does not support it.. So you get stuck with a black line on each side of the screen when you watch 99 percent of youtube videos.

G6 has a great camera. But so does the G4. The G6 has a wide angled camera, but, the quality drops significantly when you use it & it does not support stabilization on wide.

overall aesthetics of the G6 are nice. total glass enclosed body (Making it water proof) is a nice added feature.. Its fast (as expected).. But so is the G4 for everyday stuff.. Speed wise i notice no difference.

The G6 has android nougat, G4 does not.. But.. G4 is due to get Nougat within the next month or so. Its fair to say though that LG won't be releasing any newer android releases on G4 after this. From what I read there only giving support for Nougat due to bad publicity they've faced with the bootloop issue on some of there handsets.

In summary the G6 is a great phone for the price.. Would I have brought it if my G4 didn't die.. No.. I would have stuck with my G4 & waited about another 6-12 months & got a solid handset with the snapdragon 835 at least.

Funnily enough I actually brought my G4 from the seller qd_au on ebay.. I can only say VERY positive things about this seller. I informed them of my bootloop issue.. They initially advised that there is nothing they can do because the handset was well out of warranty & that at one stage they were actually replacing the handsets for people out of warranty with other working G4 phones (refurbished) out of there own pockets.. They initially said they didn't have any of this stock left to give me one.. But then later told me they managed to find one & said I can have it.. I only needed to send my stufffed G4 to them… the whole process took sometime, but suffice to say now I have a G4 & G6. Once the upgrade to Nougat on the G4 happens, with the exception of aesthetics, there isn't going to be much difference between them for everyday use.. In fact even for gaming etc I noticed very little difference… But I am not much of gamer..

        • The G4 is still my favorite phone. A new version with newer internals (and no bootlooping) would rock.
The V20 is filling the gap ok though.

        • +2

Thanks @overkillxx, good write up and probably saved me from pulling the trigger. I just don't know if it's a matter of time or depends on user behaviour like gaming etc.

Anyway I still love this phone to death, only issue is that it doesn't connect to Android Auto in my car, and apparently its a known issue or something.

        • Thanks a bunch overkill.. Like TommyGun. I think i'll remain on sidelines for a while longer. My main gripes with G4 is it is beginning to slow right down ( might take Tommys advice and reset) Then there is the battery which I am charging twice per day. (always been bad, but has deteriorated allot recently) and lastly the fact it still has not been upgraded to Nougat which they have been promising since the beginning of the year. I'm not holding my breath though as phone manufacturers make lots of promises on software upgrades but in my case never seem to deliver (thinking my previous Huawei P6)

        • +1

Thanks for the write up. I've been keen to upgrade to a G6 even though I don't need it. The battery on mine now needs 2 charges a day as well, and the ebay replacement battery I bought died in about 3months.

It's surprisingly hard to find a legit LG G4 battery online lol.

        • I think you are fighting a losing battle if you want a flagship without the new longer screen ratios (18:9, 18.5:9, 2:1 etc). Now that Samsung and LG have fully embraced it as well as the new pixel and the new iphone, I'd say nearly all flagships going forward will have one of these ratios.

For a hand held device they really make sense too, your hand can only go so wide, but there isn't such a hard limit on height. I certainly wouldn't consider it a negative of these new phones, I am surprised LG haven't implemented a quick full screen toggle on YouTube like Samsung have, it works quite well and only crops a very small portion of the video, never enough that's bothered me. I came from a G4 to the S8+ and I reckon these screens are great, just my opinion though.

    • I too want to know this. Still running my G4. Factory reset it the other day and it's running like a dream 😢

      • This the tragedy of the LG G4 bootloop issue. It rightly ruined the reputation of what would otherwise been one of the great phones of all time. I've had one of these for two years and it's running as smoothly as the day I got it. The G6 is on my list for a replacement, but at this rate I am more likely to want the G8 or G9. That's if LG can lift its quality control.

        • I had an LG G4 and it ended up with the bootloop after gaming heavily with it. Bootloop isn't an issue of the quality. It's an issue of heat dissipation and the G4 didn't have any heatsinks etc to cool down the chips and this caused the chips to desolder from the board thus causing the bootloop.

The G6 is the first time LG installed a heat pipe for the proccessor to keep it cool. Time will tell if that's enough but it is certainly better than previous models that didn't have heat pipes.

        • +1

@Manh: I seem to remember I could fry an egg on the screen of my old LG … ;)

        • @Tiggrrrrr: Aye! It did get to uncomfortable heat levels.

    • Dunno what it is about the G4, but I absolutely loved mine too - before I decided to take it for a 20 min swim in Malta. I've got the G6 now, and it's a friggin amazing phone and all, but I still wish my G4 would magically spring back to life and let me love her a little longer.

  • Incredible price for a top tier flagship

  • +1

I wish manufacturers would make more 5" phones :(
I want a phone that fits in my pocket
Or at least in my bra

    • +6

      buy a bigger bra

      • -2

wait.. or do boob enhancement first then you will automatically need bigger bra

        • probably cheaper just to buy a bigger bra and fill it up with padding.

        • @JetLi: or phones!

        • +3

Really? Would you say this to a woman you knew offline?

More broadly, is anyone else prepared to call this sort of thing out?

    • I think this is a great size. Much more easy to grip than 16:9 phones.

      • +2

        that is what she said….

  • G5 vs V20? what do you guys think?

    • V20

if you meant G6 or V20 then Id say G6

      • Any reason choosing G6 over V20? Still not sure which is better.

        • +1

its a little subjective for sure but I think the better wide angle camera and the better form factor wins it for me (if you consider 18:9 to be a better form factor). Plus also depends on whether you want the 2nd screen on V20 or not. i think that will make future updates harder if LG decides to do away with that in V30.

Edit: oh G6 has a slightly newer processor in the Snapdragon 821 instead of the 820 in V20 (not sure how much of a difference that makes to batter and performance though)

Lg G6 is also water proof, which can be a big plus depending on your usage

        • +1

          @tariqsaleem: V20 has a removable battery though

        • @WinstonWithAY:

true, and thats probably a big plus if you plan to keep your phone for long or travel to places where its difficult to charge the phone and you need spare batteries. For normal day to day use I think most people will be fine without a removable battery now (fast charging + probably people looking to get a new phone in around 1 to 1.5 years)

      • thanks. I meant G6.

  • +2

Don't buy anything from these warranty dodgers.

    • Elaborate please… After dealing with warranty on the Nexus 6P, I'm all about the warranty these days.

      • To be exact, my problem is with their sister company: DWI.

Issue with a mobile I bought from them via ebay, 8 months into the purchase phone's screen becomes faulty. I contacted them. Got a response after 7 days asking for my email address and delivery address ( I had provided the item Id and all purchase details in the first eBay message anyway). Replied next morning, 14 days later there's no response.

So beware, there must some better online retailers out there, try to give your business to those ones not to the warranty dodgers.

  • Full support for Australian network frequency bands as well! Will forward to my girlfriend. Thanks

    • same here. Lol

  • +1

Also purchased this phone from the last eBay sale. It doesn't support mirror link in case anyone is wondering. Also does not have notification led. I've been finding battery life to be quite average. I wouldn't say it's bad but could of been better.

    • Battery life is meant to be better than S8 etc. The AOD display is better than notification LED though right?

Also Mirror Link is only supported by a few manufacturers as it's not a widely used standard. I think sammy and sony right?

      • I'm not a fan of AOD. It's black and white and always on draining the battery. I'd rather a notification led personally. But personal preference

        • Yea can see that. I prefer not having to turn the screen on to see whats going on and read notifications. All an LED does for me is say "turn the screen on to see whats new"

    • So it doesn't support MHL?

      • +1

Not sure it probably does. Mirror link is something different. (A dying technology really). Mirrors image on car cd player.

    • +1

FYI the G6 does not have an LED screen, in other words the whole screen is on when you have your always on display… I personally have mine off and would rather them include a LED. (Costs them very little and doesnt take up much space?)

  • Company warranty an issue. Anyone had any experiences?

  • Is this the version with Quad DAC?

    • Yes

      • I only use bluetooth headphones. do u know if it makes a difference to sound quality?

        • +1

Will make no difference to Bluetooth, different chip-set, DAC will only benefit when using 3.5mm

  • dwidigital is $9 more…

but not sure how is the warranty compared to eglobal

    • same company.

  • Dammit. I have a perfectly working, BEAUTIFUL, 128gb white Nexus 6P with absolutely no signs of battery issues, but damn this is a sweet ass deal.

  • Root?

    • +7

      alright, a/s/l?

  • +1

Just my comment on LG. Be careful with the boot loop issue with LG phone. I had two in the past with the same issue. Nexus 5X and G4. its a global issue and LG will try and put some resistance before taking it to repair. Just informing

    • Ive had my G5 for about a year now, no problems so far. Perhaps the G4 was the last of the curse.

  • I had 2 G4s die on me too, but I believe that issue is gone with the G6.

    • +1

Gone on G6, but will forever be remembered LG didn't recall G4 the phone let warranty ran down it then deny replacements.

      • +1

agreed…one of the main reasons I didnt pull the trigger on the G6 when it came out and now even though its cheaper and the issue seems to be resolved I cant get myself to buy it since the likes of S8 are available and from the reviews it looks like the U11 is an amazing camera. would have def bought it when it came out had I not had the issue with the G4s

  • Anyone had to replace the screen on these things?

    • I want to know also, i dropped mine on the first day i had it and cracked screen :( digitizer still works, but wouldn't mind having it replaced

  • +1

Thanks OP, just purchased this for my partner. I looked it up at it says the memory is expandable to 2TB! thats insane! Also, any recommendations for a shockproof case?

    • +1

Spigen cases are good quality and at reasonable prices. Hope you can find one that you like from their selection.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p204767…

For myself, I had jumped the gun and bought this one last month. It has long delivery time, but case is really good. Now I can finally use it when I get the phone in a week or so.
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nillkin-Synthetic-Fiber-Matte-Ult…

      • I bought the Nillkin, and it is a good enough case. Very very slim and looks good. It also reduces the slippery nature of the G6 dramatically which is very important.
However it doesn't appear to offer much or any protection from being dropped on a corner, there is almost no padding or protection on the edges provided by the case. So if you are mostly after that, the spigen might be better. If you want scratch protection and to reduce the slipperiness, the Nillkin is good.

      • When i did a quick search, i did see these Spigen cases. I've always used the Tech21, but they are double the price of Spigen. Since the phone isn't for me, I guess I'll let my partner pick the case. Cheers!

  • There is no way I'd buy a grey import LG phone after their recent history of extremely unreliable phones (hardware defects). V10s, V20s, G4s, G5s, Nexuses, all with very short lives. https://www.xda-developers.com/lg-bootloop-lawsuit-adds-nexu…

A few people are already reporting bootloop issues with G6s, not sure if it is the same issue:
    https://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g6/801914-any-dreaded-b…

    • +2

I agree. I am sitting in a LG repair centre right now getting a 5x repaired.

    • +2

And everyones back again to neg you :).

    • Suggestion:
Upload/Backup all your videos and photos to google photos.
Then the delete the local files you have just backed up, hopefully this will free up enough space to allow you to perform the backup through what I assume to be the LG Bridge software.

  • +2

I have used this phone, very very good device, but i sold for few reasons, i did not like (these are my personal opinions):
    - not able to root - for that fancy customization, if you want to
    - fingerprint button is power button - imagine you are using your phone, and want to put in your pocket, you press on fingerprint button to power off - a little bit strange feeling reaching back and sometimes it does not turn screen off (or in lock position) becuase it just registers the finger print access… i used with other finger - it works, but fiddly
    - camera - comparing to s7 it is huge drawback
    - when you use facebook to take 360 photo, it uses wide lens, which does not have OIS, no option to normal lens
    - 3.5mm jack on top - why they still do this???

    best things about this phone:
    - screen - implied, the impression and usage
    - IP68, 3.5mm jack etc
    - google drive of 100gb for 2 years
    - still SD820 but lower price (when bought from eBay grey import - which I did)

  • Dumb question - Does this have Band 28?

    • Yes it does have BAND 28

  • Camera this one or S7?

    • coming from a S7E I can say that the S7/S7e is better in low light however LG does sharpen its images thus if you play around with the camera you should be able to get some awesome images. The 2nd lens is also great for getting cool angle shots if youre into that.

  • +1

Bought the phone from them the last sale. Love the G6 so far. Really what the G5 should have been.

    • I'm glad they tried.

  • Those who are interested in call recording, I've tried every available app and none of them works on this phone.

    • +2

ACR app works very well for me. Both incoming and outgoing channels sounds crystal clear.

    • +1

ACR works for me as well

  • +1

Happy with this phone. Would prefer stock android but for the price it is awesome. Camera great also.
    Size near perfect.

I see this dropping by $50 every month but I think it may have reached its bottom price soon.
